Freedom2014 Posted October 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Done it once on carnival sensation in 2012. But now will be doing it on RCCL liberty of the seas. We had EXTREMELY rough seas while on the sensation. Anyone have any experience with it on a larger ship...is there a difference
dcourt Posted October 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Have cruised several times in November and there is usually only one place that is always rough and that would be the waters between Florida and Cuba to do a Western. Other than that we have always had pretty calm sea's. The Captain will always try to keep the ship in the calmest seas just like a Captain on a plane will always try to seek the calmest airways. Have fun on your cruise!!

Have fun on your cruise!! That sucks because we are doing western. Cozemel and belize. When we went on the sensation we went to Bahamas. We went in July on the western and had slightly choppy seas on carnival liberty. I guess that's why we got such a good price on the cruise. Host Jacquelyn Posted October 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Past few cruises have been on Liberty or Freedom in November / December. We did not find the seas to be overly choppy at all.
Rare cbr663 Posted October 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2014 The North American hurricane season is from June 1 - November 30th. That is another reason why prices are lower in November.

momoftwinteens Posted October 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) I have sailed twice in November, once in 2011 and again, last year. The cruise in 2011 was to the Bahamas from NYC and was very choppy. A tropical storm had stirred up the Carribean, making the entire cruise feel like we were sailing in a washing machine. Last year, an entirely different story. We sailed from Boston and for 2 weeks, the weather was beautiful and the seas were like glass. We didn't hit bad weather until the very last port of call(Cozumel). Crossing the Gulf of Mexico to Tampa was very choppy and rainy. I guess you just never know. Krazy Kruizers Posted October 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2014 We have sailed quite a few times in November. Some times we have had seas as smooth as glass -- other times we have experienced rough weather. Weather is unpredictable.
navybankerteacher Posted October 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2014 There isn't really a predictable weather pattern in November - the hurricane e season is winding down, with few after late October. Prices may be lower than other times because, with the exception of Thanksgiving (which somehow doesn't seem to make people think of cruising) it is not a vacation time anywhere. OCruisers Posted October 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2014 We normally do not cruise in the Fall because we are big football fans and have a healthy respect for tropical storms ... but have taken a couple of Thanksgiving cruises (7 days) to the Caribbean out of Florida. On both we had very decent sunny weather ... but rather rough seas. LuLu

OCruisers Posted May 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted May 4, 2017 Move one month earlier....October on the Carnival Dream to the Western Caribbean out of New Orleans. Light jackets or what? Welcome to Cruise Critic! While your Western ports will be warm, you might consider taking some sort of light weight wrap because the a/c on the ship can get chilly in public areas. ;)
navybankerteacher Posted May 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted May 4, 2017 The Gulf of Mexico could be rough if there has been recent storm conditions --- meaning a small fraction of the time. The odds are strongly against there being heavy weather impacting your itinerary. While November is the last month of the "hurricane season", history has shown there is a chance of just one major storm impacting one part of the Gulf for perhaps five days that month. You are more likely to experience calm waters than anything enough to cause significant wave action .

DW and I cruised on the Liberty of the Seas (RCI) this past 13-20 Nov to the same ports you are stopping at. Weather was beautiful and the ocean as smooth as glass. Rare Hlitner Posted May 4, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 4, 2017 If we have learned just one thing in over forty years of cruising (all over the world) it is that anecdotal posts ("it was smooth on our cruise," "it was rough on our cruise") is absolutely just that.....anecdotal. In simple terms what happened on one cruise has zero bearing on what will happen on your cruise :). Rough seas can happen anytime, anywhere at anyplace. In many cases, the "long swells" that can really rock the largest ships, are generated by storms that can be hundreds or even thousands of miles distant. So can you get rough seas in November? Or course. Can you get smooth glassy waters in November? Absolutely. And these comments would apply to any cruise. And I would add that the Atlantic Hurricane Season runs through November 30! A hurricane thousands of miles away can cause major swells just about anywhere in the Caribbean or Atlantic. I could tell you anecdotal tales such as, we have cruised in November (in the Caribbean) for the past 12 years (this is true) and we have had great weather, awful weather, calm seas, and rough seas. Does this give you an idea what will happen on your cruise? Sure! It could be nice, stormy, smooth or rough. Hank
