Inside Cabin - To try or not to try?

I've done both and just don't think a balcony is a big deal, except on an Alaska cruise. A lot of them are just tiny and not worth the extra $$$. I did cruise once with some friends who had a huge, stern-facing balcony, and that was fun, except that it was overlooked by the lido deck, so quite loud and with people looking down on us.

An inside cabin is fine with me, especially since I don't spend much time there. I'd rather save the money. But to each their own. Why not try it and see what you think?

I like balconies and it's definitely our preference but we booked a 7 day cruise yesterday. There was a $1,600 difference per person between an inside and a balcony. 7 days with no sea days. No brainer for us to book an inside

We always book inside...once we got moved to an outside with a porthole. For us, we like the money saved so we can travel more often and we really don't spend much time in the cabin. I also like the darkness when trying to sleep. I am not sure that I would want a balcony but one of these days I may try one just to check it out.:)

Then we discovered how much less expensive interiors are and go with those now. The money we save goes toward pricey, longer land trips.

We can sit outside on any number of decks in the shade so the balcony is no longer a must-have unless it is a no or low-cost upgrade.

Also, I like how dark interiors are at night. I sleep sounder and longer.

Go with the inside. What you'll save over an outside or balcony will be appreciated.

Disney is about twice as much because there is no casino and they don't push the liquor nearly as much. Two of the biggest money makers for a cruise line.

I am one who will not cruise without a balcony. But if the balcony is not important to you that would certainly be money saving.

On a cruise cabin crawl, one of the cabins had the floor to ceiling window and that was quite nice. For me though I've got to have my balcony. :)

We've had insides, ocean view, and balcony cabins, and certainly don't dislike an inside cabin. We usually book an inside (which we are totally happy with) and if we get a decent upsell or upgrade, we may or may not take it.

On the last couple of cruises, we had more usable floor space in our inside than our friends did in a balcony cabin. It was so quiet and dark, that we slept like babies and we felt refreshed at the end of our cruises, unlike others where you may hear everything above or around you.

In order to make it not so "cave-like" we bring along glow-bracelets, activate one or two and leave them on the bathroom counter. They act as night lights for DH who usually has to get up once or twice a night - that way he doesn't have to grope around in the dark for his flashlight, and also doesn't have to turn on the cabin lights to find his way.

Smooth Sailing ! :) :) :)

I'm sure an inside is just fine. But I get seriously claustrophobic, so I would totally freak in a cabin with no window. My first cruise, way back in '89, we had a window, but no balcony. That was OK, but having had a balcony on my 2nd cruise, I could never, ever go without one. I wish I could, I really do. Would love to cruise more and longer without paying the huge upgrade prices. But I couldn't do it--wouldn't have a moment's peace the whole time.

You know, I'm claustrophobic as well, but an inside cabin doesn't bother me at all. Initially I thought I'd go crazy without a window, but seeing the amount of room we had, and just having the light from the hallway come in from under our cabin door was enough to keep me from feeling like I had to get out.

Smooth Sailing ! :) :) :)
