Price Drop AFTER Final Payment, AND:

BettyNL

Recommended Posts

We purchased a "guarantee" at BE and have paid in full; today the price for "assigned" BA is less

With less than a month prior to sailing, should I contact NCL about a refund?? onboard credit?? anything??

Thanks,

You can contact them but you probably won't get anywhere. You aren't entitled to anything.

You only have a month before you cruise. This means that the final payment (for those who booked way ahead) was due about 2 months ago. Once the final payment date for all reservations is past, it doesn't matter if they lower the price or not you don't get the lower rate.

Can you imagine if everyone who saw the rate drop got a refund? They would lose millions of $$$ on each sailing. They are lowering the price to attract people to sail.

We booked our Alaska cruise on the Pearl for this July, directly with NCL. Our "Cruise Consultant" told us that if the price drops before our final payment is made, to contact them and we would get the lower price. However.....if it drops after the final payment, we are out of luck!!

You could certainly call to see if you could be upgraded to a BA cabin, but you will not be entitled to any refund...even if it's still less than what you paid. You may also consider seeing what it would cost to move up to an AF...The cost for the mini-suite may not be much more than what you paid for a balcony.

Call NCL if the price has dropped on the same fare code you booked it on. They will offer you an upgrade or Onboard credit. Some of there agents do not know about this policy, if you get one of those agents ask for a supervisor.:)

If you didn't book directly through NCL can you call about an upgrade? I've seen the prices drop (as expected) and would like to upgrade my mother's room from an inside to a mini, or at least a balcony. I booked with an on-line agency but haven't gotten very far with them.

I'm afraid you'd need to contact the on-line agency you booked your reservation through. NCL can't have reservation specific contact with anyone who didn't book directly with them.

last Monday & saw large lettered UPGRADE. It listed $949 for balconies BD-BA. We paid in October $2554. So far no credit on my NMC for 17% CAS discount of $434.18 & now we should be getting $210 PP = $420 credit for our balcony.

So I phoned NCL got a Tony. I told him I paid a rate that is above mini suite for a suite with the rates shown now. He stated I made my final payment so no credits. A to mini or better.

I contacted my TA & her assistant emails me telling me the same thing. She has not gotten me the 17% discount for CAS or the lower fare, so over $800 loss. I am ready to leave her & book with CAS. So far I am sitting on my fingers so I do not email her to cancel my 10/8 cruise, even my husband who is paying is ticked.

But my TA was to contact them on giving me the discount for all cruises she books for me. But then she is on a cruise with another newsgroup in W Carib. So her assistant emails me telling me after final payment you get -0-. I have always gotten the lowest rate on any cruise for years thru her.

My husband is quite ticked at losing money, so I am cancelling our Oct cruise, so far, and booking with CAS for the 17% discount. So that leaves us so far with a week at sea in 2008. So they can book us for 3 weeks......... or we will buy new siding & insulation for our home which is aluminum done in 1960. Then do a cheap 12/13 cruise to somewhere warm. I am told that is the cheapest time.

MACOP, you cannot get the CAS discount unless you book with CAS. The casino hosts explained that to us on our last cruise on the Pearl. Good luck trying but I doubt you will get it.

I just spoke to NCL. They are not offering any upgrade or ship board credit for the price difference.

In order to upgrade you will have to pay the difference of $260 to upgrade to the mini-suite.

This is a general policy with NCL.

The Rep said that the note from the supervisor said that they are not offering an upgrade or ship board credit for the difference in pricing.

Have a great day,

I think you should be entitled to the upgrade at no cost to you and as a consolation for all of your angst and worrying, NCL should provide free air fare and a free limo to take you from your home to the airport.

And, if the free flight is in the evening, NCL should pay for a dinner at any restaurant of your choice between your house and the airport.

And also, any jewelry you might want to purchase on your way to the airport.

And NCL should pay to have siding installed on your house.

And provide your husband with unlimited gambling money.

They can't treat people that way!

I've learned the hard way that NCL isn't very accomodating with things like this. On the other hand RCI is really quite good about this. I learned (thru Cruise Critic) that whether you have paid in full or not with RCI you can get a refund if the price drops. You just call them up and they credit your account right away. On our last RCI cruise I tried this, and they were nice as pie about it. You have to keep on top of it...but, it works like a charm. NCL needs to get on-board with this policy.

Wether you account is paid in full or not is irrevelant. What is relevant did this this occur before or after FINAL PAYMENT DAY?

I think KNOWING the policy, which has been posted here oh 75 times in the past few months should be good enough. Be happy with what you paid, or take the gamble and don't book until it's closer to the cruise. As a business I'm not sure how other lines can refund any differences. I will say that I'm very please that I do not have to pay an additional $200 per person because the price of my cruise has gone up.

You booked a cabin months ago to secure the one you wanted and have said as much on numerous occasions on these boards. You watched as the prices went up, posted that too and rubbed your hands. Now you make your final payment and the price goes down afterwards and you want a reduction because you've lost money? Sorry, I don't get it. I've never received a price reduction after I have made final payment and to be honest don't see why I should. I booked early to secure the cabin I wanted and may have been able to take advantage of a reduction along the way prior to final payment. You can't have it both ways. You must be driving your TA crazy.

Trying for every price reduction can ultimately lead to disappointment and the wrong frame of mind before you even set foot on the ship. Be happy with what you have booked at the price that you paid.

I totally agree with you and that is the point. If you look at the OP's signature, they have been on at least 16 other cruises before. And they have never encountered this situation before? We have to assume then that the price of their other cruises must have gone up after final payment... Wonder if they offered the cruise company more money then?

I went the other day and filled up my truck with gas and it was 3.48 a gallon. I put 44 gallons in the tanks and 50 in the transfer tank in the bed. I haven't driven anywhere and now the price is 3.08 a gallon. I think the gas station owes me $37.60.

Think I will get the money back? I haven't used any of it at all.

The difference is that you already have the gas and are in possession of it. Booking a cruise is something that you will not actually experience until after you paid for it. RCI does honor price reductions until sailing date except for new booking promotions. I checked online after final payment on a regular basis and got a price reduction on our Mariner of the Seas cruise in 2006 without any hassle when we booked direct with RCI. NCL does not honor any price reductions, but used to until the Star Cruises takeover a few years ago.

RCL gives savings certificates on their web site, which was formerly mailed to us. My TA would watch for fares to go down & get the best price like the $600 PP for an AFT balcony on a 2 week Trans Atlantic.

Many folks emailed & called our TA with me emailing her about the UPGRADE stated on NCL web site. She learns last week when balconies are all the BD price. So she calls her contact at NCL & is told that after final payment there is no upgrade or OBC as another poster told us that their reps do not know about it.

On NCL, I have learned to book thru Casinos at Sea to get 17% OFF cruises so we can afford a suite. As they told me that we deserve it. They also keep rates in their eye to get us discounts. Not sure if Apollo hired them to book cruises for gamblers. Just hope the machines are not COLD so we can play a few hours on sea days since no casino at port of Bermuda.

as you just made our day. What a great dealmaker you would be. But I was not expecting all of that. But it is 2 days after my birthday.

We never have had a cruiseline that doesn't upgrade or OBC for full fare payment when fares drop & you contact them. Princess put us in mini suite for our cruises, Celebrity upgraded us to Concierge CLass AFT & RCL would give a OBC for the overpayment. But as we said, gas prices have everyone paying more for everything.

The NCL policy about no credits after final payment have been in place way before the recent increase in oil prices. Credits are only given on NCL if you have a good travel agent or are really persistent. RCI will give you credit without making you jump through hoops after final payment.

I have a question. If you all know that RCI gives you credit after your final payment is made and you know that NCL doesn't, why sit here and moan and groan about it?

Why didn't you just book with RCI so that you can get exactly what you want?

MACOP - why is it that every post on CC is completely non-understandable? I read it and I can never seem to understand what it is you are trying to say - except that you are complaining. Sorry - just my perception.

I've not sailed NCL and I come to the NCL threads to get information. If I want to hear complaining I can sit and listen to my teenage daughter! Good grief people - how 'bout some usable information instead of "well, I want a credit even after I paid and RCI does it, so NCL should get with the policy." Unreal.

Why in the heck would you think that NCL should follow RCI's policy? Different companies - oh, different policies! Get over it.

I see on CC all the time - pay what you can afford. If the prices go down and policy says you can get the credit, GREAT. But if you can't afford the price you are paying to start with, well, then you certainly should be thinking twice about booking a cruise.

Off my soapbox now.
