any mechanical part on anything can fail at any time for all sorts of reasons
  5. Of course. But it still amounts to Cunard selling a product that it knew it could not fulfil if it has waited until it had a replacement itinerary before announcing the change. this cruise went on sale Feb 22 and would have been planned sometime before that when Oslo was still an option and before any restrictions were put in place.
  6. They have to find and confirm new ports before any announcement.
  7. Radar etc are AIDS to navigation something rammed home to me at a young age by my father who crossed the North Sea from Larvik Norway in 1940 aged 17. He and his companions kept a very careful visual watch.
  8. There was a recent post that indicated that the seats would be repaired. The original manufacturer is no longer in business and like many other things today the problem has been finding a company who can make them to a somewhat unique specification.
  9. Over reliance on radar and ais against visual lookout, radar and AIS alarms not set or inoperative, excess speed, sudden turn, lack of radio contact between vessels to confirm intentions but most probably not enough crew on bridge or distracted by various displays on bridge. Some years ago a vessel was seen off course and not answering radio comms. Only when relief watch went to bridge was it found that the master on night watch alone had died from a heart attack. Recently a large dredger coming out of a harbour struck and sank a yacht with loss of 1 life. Only one man on bridge who did not see the yacht because he was busy with AIS or radar.
  10. Daily Fail comments ws are suitably aligned with their report.
  11. Full extensive 20 year refit in 26 to prolong her life for amther 15/20 years.
  12. Once QA has anchored a few times rust will probably appear around the anchor according housings.
  13. Restaurant doors opened quite early most nights but had very efficient waiters. But it was very enjoyable cruise on perhaps our favourite ship. Look hopefully to QA next year to deliver the same ambience.
  14. Britannia 2nd sitting we were in and out most nights within the hour.
  15. essentially correct major refit in 26
  16. 3 planes in quick succession @ 0900 but no more heard by us.
  17. One month? I once went on a brand new survey vessel for 3 weeks around Shetland and Orkney. Rust was appearing in several places and it was summer & calm.
  18. An apparent date for the naming ceremony is on a well known social media site.
  19. She is to have an extended refit in 26 and amongst other things that is apparently under consideration.
