  1. I just experienced a similar event. My wife passed and I went on the cruise as a solo to celebrate our marriage. Carnival refunded the port taxes and fees and the wifi plan for my wife. My fare did not increase and no penalty was charged. I did file with my travel insurance provider, AIG Travelguard.
  2. A good TA beats a bad PVP and versa vica. I have gotten upgrade/upsells regardless of how the booking went through, it is a function of how full the ship is and what the demand is for cabins. The difference is how the upgrade/upsell comes to you. Previous commenters are correct, once you book with a TA, Carnival will only work through the TA. I have never gotten anything extra out of my PVP, the TA has given some small gifts (welcome aboard cake, Carnival beach bag, etc). These are nice but small perks. One kind word about the TA, they are local and commissions, etc stay in your community.
  3. Unless someone is travelling with them, there will be significant challenges. Once at the port, porters will take the luggage and put it in front of the room but who will take the luggage into the room and unpack. Ditto when it comes to disbarkation, who will pack and place suitcases outside of room. Assistance can be found at the ports, to get individuals onto the ship. Assistance can be found to take suitcases from the disbarkation luggage area to the car. If someone is travelling with them, even if that person is in a different cabin, there is assistance to get them on the ship and off the ship (my wife uses this service when we arrive). Someone from Carnival with a wheelchair will get them on the ship (tips appreciative). Same getting off. Good luck with this.
  4. I just looked at the page and the ***/23 dates are now ***/24. This is a benefit that gets renewed annually so I do not know when the dates changed but they are still offering this benefit at least thru July 2024. Applicability is only to one cabin, the shareholder of record. Below is a quote from the shareholder benefit document: The benefit is applicable on sailings through July 31, 2024 aboard the brands listed below. Certain restrictions apply. Applications to receive these benefits should be made at least three weeks prior to cruise departure date. Not sure when your cruise is leaving, but you have some time if you buy this week. You could your March brokerage statement to apply for the benefit. In my opinion, I am not sure it is wise to pay approximately $900 dollars (based on friday's market price) for 100 shares to get $50 obc. Buy the stock because you think it will recover somewhat from the pandemic.
  5. Shaq was doing basketball on TNT that week otherwise he would have been there.
  6. I agree about Carnival's debt but: Cruzing is just beginning to return to full swing which should lead to increase profitability and the ability to pay the debt particlularly since fares are up and ships are near capacity; Reading the article closely, Carnival Cruise line is adding two ships but only one new one. One ship is a transfer from the sister line Costa Cruises while the other is a new built but most likely contracted for before or early into the pandemic.
  7. I noticed that those balconies do not have any shade on them so they probably get more direct sun than lower floor balconies that have some shade generated by the balcony above.
  8. From personal experience, I can relate the last sentence in your comment is incorrect. I received an upgrade on my next cruise which was booked through a TA. It was $38 for both of us to get a balcony on a higher deck on the ship (in my case, the spa deck on the Glory). Don't know why I took it, but I never was that high on the ship so I thought the price was cheap. The upgrade request went through my TA rather than coming to me directly, not surprising. BTW, in my case the upgrade offer came in December with my cruise coming in April. The ship appears pretty much sold out so I guess the offers went out early so regular balconies can be offered to either the public or those in lower cabin categories. Good deal or not good deal is a personnel choice, I have had balconies before but never that high on the ship, hoping for either a good view or the last place the Kraken will attack.
  9. Correct, I did not lay out any cash, only added it to the cruise purchase.
  10. Access My Cruise Manager using the “RESERVE NOW” button below to secure the current rates for any Carnival open sailing. This was in the email I received and I just used it to secure the internet rate (value plan) for my April cruise at the lower rate. Use of the term prepay is sort of confusing, you are really committing now to purchase the service at the present price rather than the future price. Actual payment takes place during the cruise. The items increasing in price (gratuity and internet plan) are not mandatory purchases for the cruisers. Gratuities are added to your daily on-board account unless you get them removed by guest services. So you will run into gratuities now or on the ship. BTW, if you have OBC, Carnival will charge the purchase to the obc so no money will be spent (this is how I purchased my internet plan).
  11. Your deposit you should get back, however nothing is easy in a bankruptcy and it may take awhile. It took a while to get cruise deposits back when Covid first hit. "Credits", or on-board-credits, are not something customers can claim since in most cases, the customer did not pay for them. They are an enticement by the company to cruise. You will not get them back in most instances (there may be an exception). All the major cruise lines have mortgaged their futures to survive so unless some new cosmic event happens, they are going to try and tough it out. In Carnival's case, the top dog, Mickey Arison, still holds a sizable stake in the company. Regarding your investment, Carnival bookings are quite strong for 2023. I just had a conversation with my TA (went to pay for my April 2023 cruise which is almost a full boat), she said she has been having difficulty giving customers their first choice date because Carnival (RCL & NCL also) are booked full. Once some of the Covid cancellations are through the system (cruisers at lower prices, like me), the lines should return to profitability.
  12. You should have your room assignment before, or at least, two weeks before your cruise since that is when on-line check in begins. You will need your cabin number to print your luggage tags. I did a balcony guarantee once and got notified four weeks before the cruise. Keep checking the "Print my documents" section to see if the cabin number pops up there.
  13. Here is the information regarding travel documents from the Carnival website: For cruises that begin and end in a U.S port, the following WHTI-Compliant Documents are acceptable for cruise travel. These standard forms of documentation will enable the Department of Homeland Security to quickly and reliably identify a traveler. If a picture I.D. is not affixed to the WHTI-compliant document, a picture I.D. is required (a valid, unexpired government-issued photo I.D. for all guests 16 years of age or older). If the cruise includes air travel to or from Canada, a valid, unexpired U.S. passport is required. U.S. Passport Passport Card State Enhanced Driver's License Certificate of U.S. Naturalization Native American Indians For cruises that visit Martinique, guests going ashore are required to carry a valid, unexpired passport. . Also acceptable for cruise travel (for cruises that begin and end in a U.S port), U.S. citizens can show proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate issued by a government agency and accompanied by government-issued photo identification. If the cruise includes air travel to or from Canada, a valid, unexpired U.S. passport is required. Guests who have committed or been convicted of a crime may not be allowed into Canada - for more information,
  14. The first thing to remember is to have fun. The second thing is to remember the first thing. My wife always enjoys the MDR, the wait staff always provided her excellent service and made her feel special, she also enjoyed the singing and dancing waiters. That's a personal choice. We are good with just DL's right? I always bring my passport but I am not sure the other ladies all happen to have one at the moment. I believe you need a birth certificate if you are using a DL.
  15. Drinks--absolutely Casino--I think you can use the OBC in the slots but if you want chips for table games, there will be a surcharge for converting OBC to chips (4% is my understanding).
  16. When I have submitted a shareholder OBC request, it has taken a couple of weeks for the second confirmation email to be received, a little bit of patience is required. The OBC will be included with all other OBC's for your cruise, it will not be broken out as a separate line item. So, as an example, if you have a $200 OBC given at time of booking, you should be able to check your invoice page in the "Print my Documents" file and on page 2 you will see the $200 OBC. That number will increase to $300 once your shareholder OBC is approved.
  17. From the FAQ section of the Carnival Website: Pre-Cruise and Onboard Prices: Kids (17 years of age and younger): $6.95 USD per person, per day plus 18% service charge Adults (18 years of age and older): $9.50 USD per person, per day plus 18% service charge You can find more info on the program there.
  18. When? A little disappointed to hear, would hope for an upgrade in the type of ship.
  19. Thanks for the review. Wife and I sail on Glory in April so your review of the food is interesting. I had the same problem with the draws under the couch once before on the Dream, while it is surprising they would not or could not fix it, I was more surprised, or perhaps insulted by their level of surprise. On the good side, the rest of the cabin was fine and we were able to workaround. There is no excuse for cold.
  20. It may become a little more than a blip. The new debt allows for the conversion of this bond into Carnival stock at $13.39 per share, diluting present shareholder value (for what present shareholder value is). On the flip side, the $13.39 represents approximately a 35 to 40 % increase over present value which is not bad for current shareholders. All the cruise lines have mortgaged their future for survival. The last numbers I heard was that Carnival capacity is at 82 % and rising.
  21. I wonder if we will ever hear which vessels are involved and who is the actual owner. To make this type of loan, some entity is very bullish on the future of cruising. Carnival on its way to being an asset light company between this and previous transactions.
  22. In connection with the offering of the Senior Priority Notes, the Company and its subsidiaries will contribute 12 unencumbered vessels to the Issuer, with each of these vessels continuing to be operated under one of the Company's, Carnival plc's or one of their subsidiaries' brands. Which vessels?
  23. Cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Inc (NYSE: NCLH) updated its global health and safety protocols by removing all COVID-19 testing, masking and vaccination requirements, effective October 4, 2022. The cruise line decided on relaxation after positive progress in the public health environment. Norwegian will continue to follow the travel guidelines required by the destinations it visits. "Many travelers have been patiently waiting to take their long-awaited vacation at sea and we cannot wait to celebrate their return," said CEO Harry Sommer. The cruise line, with a fleet of eighteen contemporary ships, sails to nearly 400 destinations worldwide. The above from a NCL press release will stimulate all cruise stocks, expect Carnival to follow (they will have to follow and want to follow).
