  1. Pre covid the MUTS offerings were usually recent DVD releases, with the occasional concert or football game. From the many cruises we've been on my observation is that action type movies tend to draw a bigger crowd than films from another genre. Possibly dialogue volume is also a factor in movie selection, as movies with a lot of soft dialogue are hard to hear out on deck, and action movies tend to be LOUD. I hope we see recent movies in our upcoming cruise.
  2. Website says submit "no later than 4 weeks prior to your sail date." Sent ours in well in advance by email and got 1 business day turnaround. Don't wait until Monday, and if you wait until you are onboard ship it is too late.
  3. I have the same question as all the shorter tours are sold out on our upcoming cruise, and we've been here before, so the river tour is redundant. - Are there any good beaches within reasonable taxi distance from the docking location? - Is there a water taxi or similar to get to the Pacific natural areas and beaches? - Does anyone know why there are age limits on snorkeling tours? Thanks
  4. Sounds like norovirus. We've cruised when every ship in the Caribbean had norovirus outbreaks. Make sure you observe good sanitation per the ship's doctor recommendations and you should be OK.
  5. In the computer industry a "device" is defined as a hardware unit with a fixed MAC address. The MedallionNet system allows one to be logged in with only one device at a time, and when one switches from Smart phone to laptop computer to Kindle to Internet Cafe computer using one's single login/password credentials the next login will logout from the previous different logged device with different MAC address. As such it is a user logon based system and not device based. This has been documented by users here on CC and by my Princess CVP. I sometimes wonder if marketing a 1 device plan or 4 device plan is designed to increase sales volume for people thinking that they need more than a 1 device plan because they have both a laptop and an iPad or Kindle. There are cases where one could need to maintain an internet connection simultaneously (e.g. work/play) in which multiple logins could require truly having multiple devices.
  6. Counting connection minutes is software, and is software they've had for years, so it is not new technology. No separate system is needed, just a switch to a different software routine that counts minutes from when one logs in to when one logs out. And that could be done for all logins, with the data maintained for statistical purposes for people with unlimited packages, something they probably already do in the background. Logging in and out is what happens when one switches from one device to another, like going from a smart phone web browser to a web browser in the Internet Cafe.
  7. You've hit the salient point that is causing so much consternation. Many of us want to "Get away completely", which used to be a marketing slogan. Princess would serve their passengers better if they offered options for internet use. The one that just went away was an "online minutes" option, which was sufficient for a quick email check or even a look at a web site or two. This was also the option that had a loyalty benefit of X many minutes (where X depended on the length of the cruise). This has been replaced by a costly unlimited minutes option. OK I get it that some people want that, despite the possibility that over 1000 users trying to stream through a satellite connection is likely to cause latency issues. But that's the only option we have now so we either live with it or do without. Back last century when we started cruising there was no internet and if family needed to contact us for an emergency they could call the ship at $/minute. That's still an option if we do without Internet, FYI - ship contact information is at FAQ: Keeping in Touch On Board Your Cruise - Princess Cruises
  8. The suitcase in the water thing is a tale that's been passed down for years. However, one time I found I did not have the ready cash as we handed off our 2 suitcases to a FLL porter, and as we walked away from the area I observed our suitcases were next to one of the wire cages used to bring them aboard ship - after the porter saw I was looking at them he finally moved them into a cage. Also to be noted that porters at US ports proudly wear their union badges. They are not undercompensated.
  9. Same situation here. Upcoming 16 day cruise carries a $120 charge per Elite passenger (7.50/day after 50% discount) for internet access - and we've got 10 sea days, likely with bad satellite coverage. We've never used up all the previous Platinum/Elite internet minutes on a cruise, so this charge is not a great "loyalty benefit." However, as we need to access internet at least a couple of times, I've talked with my Princess travel advisor who verified we can buy a day of access at a time, and her feedback is that the 50% discount applies. We'll see if that's true.
  10. We last sailed pre-Covid, but at that time the longer (greater than 7 days) cruises we took typically had a special offer once in the cruise for "all you can fit in a bag for $xx.xx". They might not still offer this.
  11. 1. Princess platinum insurance upgrade 2. priority boarding 3. 10% off Spa, photos, shops 4. Platinum/Elite lounge 5. Early access to new itineraries 6. Priority ship to shore water shuttle 7. complimentary Grapevine Wine Tasting event 8. Mini-bar setup that you can exchange 9. canape selection on Formal nights (not the greatest but, hey.) 10. complimentary afternoon tea in stateroom 11. priority disembarkation. 12. complimentary laundry services and shoe polishing Granted, not everyone chooses to use all these benefits, but the only benefits that are eroding are #8 above and the Internet minutes which are no longer offered gratis. You object to the lessening in value of the minibar, I object to the fact that I now have to pay for occasional use of the internet to check to see if my family is healthy at home and the house hasn't burned down. Many of the other Elite benefits are still of value and part of why I still choose to sail Princess Cruises. One other thing - for my next cruise, about a third of the passengers on the roll call poll are sailing with the standard fare, opting to pay for the drink packages they actually use. We all choose how we want to spend our holiday cash to our benefit.
  12. On our first transatlantic I wore a suit and tie and fit in. On our second transatlantic I wore a "business standard" blue sport coat, slacks, and tie and felt a little out of place relative to what others were wearing. When packing for cruises I've found that shoes take up the most space, followed by jeans for casual wear. Perhaps you could take less and leave room for hubby's dinner jacket? Just a thought.
  13. That doesn't sound right. What airline? and is that the price for 2 people? I delayed reserving flights until I had some post cruise details and missed the airline price increase @ 90 days. I'm wondering whether you might be at the fare change point based on days until the flight, and one of the sites hasn't updated.
  14. Being on oxygen is a perfectly valid reason for hiring porters and getting some priority through lines. That's what I referred to under the global term "disability". However where someone is healthy and hires a porter to get priority through US immigration and Customs, where I come from that is called a bribe as we are all created equal.
  15. You've really hit a pet peeve of mine. Why should passengers who pay for someone to move their luggage get ANY priority through immigration/customs over those who schlep their own? I totally understand it if the passenger is disabled, as it is their disabling condition which makes standing in long slow-moving lines difficult, but I don't understand why healthy well-to-do people can buy priority.
  16. Never have had food items run out. On disembarkation day the internet gets turned off and one has to pay for liquor using cash.
  17. While we always check EZAir for flights, we have found that their prices cannot be beat for "open jaw" travel where the flight to and the return flight are from different cities. An example would be for an Alaska cruise departing Vancouver and ending in the Anchorage AK area. Often domestic flights going to/from the same city are approximately the same price, but EZAir includes our Princess purchased insurance.
  18. If the booking was made through EZAir, then they are the source to change the flights. While several have mentioned United, we had the experience where Delta cancelled a flight and attempted to give us alternate flights that would not work for us to make the ship - and notified me at 2 AM the morning of the cruise. EZAir and the Princess delayed travel people worked with us and got flights that would make the cruise.
  19. Used Personal Information - Login (ocean.com) link on my computer (and Kindle) and it seems to work, although it is a hassle to login.
  20. Used Personal Information - Login (ocean.com) link on my computer (and Kindle) and it shows both the original Michelangelo and the second DaVinci reservations for our upcoming cruise. Michelangelo doesn't show up in the Princess App. Yeah, sounds like another Princess App problem.
  21. This must be a trend. A couple of people on our roll call, including ourselves, booked the Michelangelo dining room and had our reservations go away, and we are unable to book anything in that dining room. I wanted that deck's dining room because it is away from smoking areas.
  22. In the 13 cruises since turning Elite (all pre-Covid) the list of drinks shown above is what we've gotten almost every time. On one occasion we got Canadian Club instead of Scotch. We tend to swap out for our beverages of choice. We'll see what we get on our next cruise ...
  23. Add to breakfast the roaming servers with Danish, crescents, marmalade, and jams. On a sea day it makes a nice relaxing start to the day!
  24. Thanks for the reference. Although I was able to load the Google Play Store on my older Kindle Fire 7 (OS 5.7) when I attempted to access the MedallionClass App, Play Store says "This app won't work for your device" and will not download it. As a check I downloaded a game which Amazon had deprecated with an "OS upgrade" and it works fine. Not sure if I want to try it with my newer Kindle 8.
  25. I've found that, even at home, when I download books on a Kindle Fire, I need to actually open the book and "read" a page or two to ensure the books are actually on the device. Since Amazon changed their download policy requiring a "push" delivery from their site rather than a request from the Kindle the actual download of multiple books is a little "iffy".
