  1. people UBER it all the time ..... you could make your way over to Brightline or Tr-Rail then transfer as needed to get to the port this will save $$ but involves multiple steps and will take considerably longer ..... my dau does it all the time but lived in Miami and knows her way around
  2. Thanks for the heads up on fog. I just googled and found that there was a day in Jan/23 when cruise ships were kept out of the port for 9 hours because of fog. a couple of years ago the port was closed for THREE DAYS with a cruise ship waiting to get in!
  3. the port trilogy: Grills, Fish Lips, Rusty's (and there are others in the area) ask 4 folks which one is best and get 6 recommendations BUT we prefer Grills as they GRILL vs FRY in most cases. Kelly's Pizza - more than pizza - above average family italian - greek salad is a fav' of mine ... mini is enof for two!!!! all within a couple of minutes . . .
  4. having just had to do some walking around PE due to lack of parking I'd take that $8 in a flash!! here's a map if not yet familiar with your destination here's your potential walk from another view ... about 1/4 mile building to building but add to that the walk from ship, thru security .... thru security and on to ship .... could easily double that and don't count on sidewalk all the way but do count on plenty of traffic.
  5. is it a weekend or a week day? the airport isn't far but the roads downtown can be a bit of a PITA when folks are heading to work. p.s. IMO over 50% of the folks on your average cruise today 'self disembark' to 'beat the rush' on one recent cruise folks started queuing up around 5am
  6. Port Canaveral underway on new $67.4 million parking project It will include a 1,940-space parking garage to serve Cruise Terminals 5 and 6, and a 1,081-space garage to serve Cruise Terminal 10. More commonly the port is described as a north and south side as the channel runs east to west and one must cross a draw bridge to get from side A-NORTH to side B-SOUTH 5,6 & 10 are all on the NORTH side .... and technically they ARE WEST of the B-South terminals 1,2 & 3 Signage reflects the A and B labels as each side has its own entrance 😎
  7. I've never failed to get a spot on an 'included' excursion and last time we were in the 'lowest class' cabin. On our most recent cruise an included was cancelled a few day before sailing ... we were notified and rec'd some ON BOARD CREDT $ ...... And yes the popular extra cost excursions DO tend to get bought up fast. As a V cabin, not much was available by the time we were eligible to book
  8. as I recall the article said two new garages but both on the north side of the port .... Port Canaveral underway on new $67.4 million parking project It will include a 1,940-space parking garage to serve Cruise Terminals 5 and 6, and a 1,081-space garage to serve Cruise Terminal 10.
  9. which docks are the easiest to get to from the major airports this is not a well thought out question .... what is your metric for EASIEST? time? cost? hills? color of the vehicle? IMO they are ALL 'easy' (except Jacksonville ... stay away from that one)
  10. there ARE cruise ships with cabins for singles ... not many but they do exist RCCL ODYSSEY OTS and <some of> the others in the class have 'em too. Son had one for a family cruise last Nov ..... It cost less then paying the 'premium' to be one in a cabin for two. It was also smaller (sq feet) than the lowest cost double cabin. BUT single cabins DO exist . . .
  11. if you have set up your 'my journey' account just log in and on the right side you should see a red button for 'live chat'
  12. short answer is yes .... we've done three V cruises (2 ocean one river) and how this works has variables depending on the situation. Sometimes we've seen: it is OK to leave but as noted PLEASE tell the guide so they don't waste time looking for you. Sometimes the tour was mostly walking with time at the end for DIY & a bus getting you to town and then returns to pick you up and here the guide just tells you where the bus will be and when it will depart ... you can catch the bus or DIY. And yet other times the last walking leg was close enuf to the boat that DIY walking back was your option and the bus left at a set time. Bottom line they are very flexible but tend to be VERY cautious about not leaving anyone behind on a tour stop that does not WANT to be left behind 😬
  13. would love to hear from others who have stayed there! Have not stayed there but I'm a local so here's some hints: - there really aren't many places in Cocoa Beach 'right on the water' so from that perspective the place looks good. Come back and tell us what YOU think.... - you are walking distance to Ron Jon a HUGE tourist trap / souvenir shop where you can find almost ANYTHING with RON JON printed on it! On the other hand I just went shopping there last week as I was looking for a bathing suit and some flip-flops and while the prices are not the best the selection for 'beach wear' is unsurpassed. https://www.ronjonsurfshop.com/store/cocoa-beach - the beach from the port to Sebastian is 'unbroken' for 40+ miles .... how's a LONG beach walk sound? At low tide the sand is hard enough to support a 'beach cruiser' bike and you can ride the beach - rentals can be found many places .... INCLUDING Ron Jon! - just a lil walk to the north is Sand Bar Sports Grill with a decent menu of Florida and Island classics in a VERY relaxed setting https://www.sandbarsportsgrill.net/all-day-eating - about 1.2k or a short UBER ride is Cocoa Beach Pier with several eating and drinking places including a bar at the end of the pier https://www.cocoabeachpier.com/ - want to explore in a different and exciting way: https://www.floridaslingshotrentals.com/
  14. wrt the land purchase and station plans the topic came up in local paper a while back and turns out the land was purchased for 'fill purposes' BL needs 'fill' and one can not simply buy land and dig a big hole for dirt .... BUT if one buys land for purpose of building homes they can dig a big hole and call it a lake and reuse the 'dirt' aka fill at other places/projects . . . obviously fake news ..... the tracks in this area run just west US-1 until 'the big turn' to the west towards MCO following the general lay of SR-528. The purchased land was said to be in the area of the big turn so about 9 miles from the port, again generally following 528. There is ZERO discussion of a track system to the port. At one time a rail line for container traffic was proposed but the port does so little container traffic and the issue of bridges and other environmental stuff saw this discussion die years ago . . .
  15. https://hotrayzlimos.com/ been in business in melbourne (Cocoa area) for a long time . . .

  17. cruised out of Lauderdale/Everglades last Nov and drove .... had cruised from here b4 and always avoided driving. NOT DRIVING was better choice. admittedly my Nov experience was a cruise over Thanksgiving but in general parking in PE is terrible. some berths have no adjacent parking at all .... others have insufficient. when we arrived in time for our boarding time all nearby parking was already full and blocked off. asking port employees directing traffic where to go resulted in general hand wave and shrug of shoulders and 'keep moving'. eventually found ONE garage still admitting cars and was directed to park under big 'no parking' sign. No shuttle to pier my ship was at .... on return no shuttle from ship to this lot/garage either. A rather long HOT walk (I had dropped others and bags first) I'll not try again .... find another way to get to the berth or use a different port is my future plan ....
  18. went thru D' G' enroute Bergen last month ... JFK, Paris, Bergen bags checked thru .... no worries about them in Paris follow the lines ... had to pass thru a TSA like security screening & an electronic check of passport then a 'person' who checked things again and stamped the passports. Entire process was maybe 10 minutes. In Bergen when we claimed our bags there was the mentioned red/green lines and with nothing to declare we walked straight out with no issues ..... no questions btw our return flight was Iceland to JFK then Orlando and we DID need to claim our bags at JFK then recheck the bags and have had experiences where the entire process took a LONG time. We have GE and there was ZERO wait time to get thru immigration / passport control. We waited a good bit for our bags - none came off for a long while ... ours were not 'unusually delayed' ... Biggest surprise was we were able, once bags in hand, to simply walk out and never approached or asked diddly by Customs. Previous experiences always saw a queue to join ..... not this time. Recheck was available yards from the customs exit with no wait. Sum it up? Despite an international arrival the process took NO MORE TIME then had we been domestic
  19. just back from cruise to Norway and Iceland I got some cash for both places but used very little except for tips to excursion guides ... paid a couple of small purchases with cash (hard candy .... a soft drink) it was tap and go with my VISA everyplace I have a PIN for my card but tap 'n go seems to nullify the need . . .
  20. was there last week Mrs was quite happy with a 'puffer' ($25 Costco!) I took a gor-tex shell with a fleece liner and ended up never using the fleece. The shell broke the wind - fleece alone didn't. Never so cold I needed both ... it was hitting 60f ....
  21. Standard cruise contract allows ports to be dropped for 'no reason' ...... ir happens all the time. We DID stop there about a week ago and frankly I was not impressed. Saw pretty much nothing in terms of wild life just a small town area with the equivalent of Iceland WalMart! A store selling everything.... from booze to stuffed animals to food ....
