  1. I have never known Silversea to refund port fees for missed ports. However, unlike most other luxury lines, Silversea does not charge port fees separately. Those fees are folded into the advertised fare, just like the cost of fuel and rubbish disposal.
  2. In my experience, it has been midnight GMT or very shortly thereafter. The charge is imposed after consuming the meal. One signs a form at the end of the meal. The cost is added to one's onboard folio, and it can be taken from OBC.
  3. If there is in fact misunderstanding/ambiguity and if the maitres d' are put in a difficult situation, what about discrete signs rolled out at outlet entrances during dinner. No sign would appear at any outlet on casual nights or at The Grill. On informal nights the sign would read: "Tonight's Attire: Informal. Jacket for Gentlemen." But in La Terrazza it would read "Tonight's Attire: Informal. Jacket Suggested for Gentlemen." On formal nights the sign would read: "Tonight's Attire: Formal. Suit and Tie for Gentlemen." But in La Terrazza it would read "Tonight's Attire: Formal. Suit and Tie Suggested for Gentlemen. Jacket w/o Tie acceptable."
  4. IMO, it would be nice to have some stand-up comedians and magicians.
  5. It is arguably an even greater loss for an elderly person with limited mobility who is sensitive to the midday heat on the pool deck. For such a person, neither La Terrazza nor The Grill suffices.
  6. As you are surely aware, casual attire is acceptable on informal nights in La Terrazza.
  7. Your ability to get back on the ship after disembarking will depend on many factors, not least being the regulations at the port and of port officials. Practices change suddenly nowadays with Covid, etc. In my experience doing back to backs, in transit guests are asked to vacate their suites by 8 AM. Typically, in transit passengers lounge on the pool deck or in Panorama. In transit passengers can generally return to their suites around noon. I would assume that personal goods would not be moved to the new suite until it has been cleaned. A certain amount of flexibility is needed in travel, especially nowadays.
  8. You are most welcome. The rule of life is reciprocity. I have gained much useful knowledge from CC, and I am pleased to give back when I can.
  9. Hanging goods will be moved on a rack with wheels such as one sees in hotels. The electronics can be stuffed into drawers. The entire drawer will be moved from one suite to another, and no one will touch/handle the electronic items themselves.
  10. To learn that Atlantide is closed for lunch is very alarming news to me. I cannot understand this explanation (especially when Covid-related restrictions seem to be relaxed). I would welcome edification from someone who can puzzle this out.
  11. If Indochine is still closed, why is this the case? Crew shortage? Too many crew isolated with Covid? Low passenger counts that make this additional capacity unnecessary. Very discouraging. Will welcome current report.
  12. A friend told me last week that Silversea won't give any discounts or ship credits (as TAs give) anymore. I used to book with Silversea cruise consultant and always got a credit to use in the spa, boutique, premium scotch, etc. If this is true, I will go back to the travel agency I used a few years ago that gives credits and a rebate and an onboard cocktail party (not that cocktails are hard to find on the ship!!). In fact, maybe I will take my friend's advice to sail Oceania.
  13. Of course you will have assistance. You may also want to place toiletries in a drawer in closet. If the "new" suite is vacant on the prior voyage, they might want to move you a day early. Turnaround day is VERY busy for the crew. They will probably simply trade full drawers from one suite to the next. No need to empty, restock drawers.
  14. Can someone with more technological chops than me explain how challenging this conversion will be? Are we talking about flipping a few switches on each ship? Installing new satellite dishes on the ships? Rewiring the interior? More to the point: how long is the conversion process likely to be per ship? A few days of work per ship? A few weeks? A few months? I would love to have access to this enhanced Internet for my next cruise beginning in a few months.
  15. As I recall, it was not possible to open a window in the suite. But it certainly is much roomier than other Vista suites.
  16. During a refit a few years ago, Shadow got a coffee/snacks bar on Deck 5 that is a miniature Arts Cafe. As I recall, it is referred to as the Atrium Cafe and is open at 6:30 AM.
  17. I agree that Panorama is the place to go for coffee. However, room service is available 24/7.
  18. Is "optional formal" a new development? I do not recall having encountered it on any previous Silversea cruise.
  19. It need not be a classic book like Austen or Dickens or Trollope. A title like this, conspicuously displayed, might be effective in ensuring your solitude.
  20. I have a friend who shares this preference. But she also enjoys a solitary pre-dinner drink in the bar, etc. Her strategy is to carry a book or magazine and pretend to be reading it or at least holding it on her lap. This sends a signal and helps avoid situations in which some well-meaning person/couple seek to join you assuming that you are lonely and in need of company.
  21. Actually, on the Spirit there are some differences. Only a handful of the deluxe suites (those created when the ship was stretched) have the bathtub removed and a huge and wonderful walk-in shower with a bench.
  22. Thanks very much for the prompt response. My question is whether there is a discount when booking two separate individual cruises, back to back. Another cruise line I use applies a 5% discount to each cruise, when two consecutive (say 10 day) cruises are booked to make a longer (say 20 day) cruise.
  23. Hello, I looked and looked and didn't find an answer. Is there a discount for two consecutive cruises booked back-to-back? TIA.
  24. Thank you for your important question, which is doubtless on the minds of many Silversea guests. The cruise line should have stated explicitly that swimwear is not acceptable in the restaurants at dinner time. Failure to do this has led to the category error your question implies. Bathing suits and jeans are in different categories. The former is in the swimwear category; the latter in the category of trousers. 🙂
