Not necessarily. And it would be PVSA, Jones Act is cargo. Cruise lines used to do CTN frequently, but then the visa thing for the crew came up, and they were no longer legal. EM
-
I have my doubts this will happen. Cruises to nowhere became illegal a number of years ago when it was decided if the ship did not call at a foreign port, the crew were deemed to be working in the US and needed different visas. EM

Are you in Yacht Club, or Below the Salt with the rest of us? It makes a difference. EM

Just back today - 3 Night MSC MAGNIFICA Cruise - Impressions & Photos

Welcome to Cruise Critic. At the top of the threads page you will see See posts about…> Select ship…. Click on select ship, and you will get a dropdown menu of MSC ships. Click on Preziosa. This will give you a list of threads mentioning Preziosa. I have not sailed MSC from within Europe, but do find that folks from Europe who sail the ships on our side of the pond dress a bit better in general than we do. There will be an Elegant night, but it is not necessary to take formal wear, though some will. There will also be a White Night, and lots of people take white outfits for that. when you check in you each will be given a credit card sized cruise card which opens your cabin door, and pays for everything on the ship. (You will have backed it up with a credit card). You will need to place one of your cards in a slot inside your cabin door in order to activate the lights. However, on this clas of ship the card in the slot can be any card of similar size. Not having a card in the slot means no power to lights and outlets in the cabin, although the a/c will still work. Being in an Aurea cabin gives you priority check in and boarding…look for signs when you enter the terminal. It also gives you My Choice dining. Try not to pack your entire closet…you do not need to change clothes three times a day, though by the size of the cases you will see, it appears some folks do…There will be security screening before you enter the ship and your carryon cases will go through the same scanner used by the airlines. And every time you return to the ship in a port of call, your bag will go through that scanner. Have a great cruise!

Yes, they do walk off. But I would not rush to get off. I waited on Valiant Lady until near the last group because I knew I would not be able to check in that early. As it was, I was able to drop off my small bag and walk right in and onto the ship. Although you might be the first ones there, you would probably be waiting outside for awhile. But check on the Royal board about times. EM

What cruise line is best for parents and young adult children?
Essiesmom replied to FlaTravelers's topic in Family Cruises
What would be considered ‘fun’ for her? Depending on that definition, you might choose an itinerary to suit. If you are accustomed to sailing Regent, you might look at one of the newer ships of MSC which has Yacht Club for you, but active amenities for the younger crowd. Med cruises tend to be port intensive with long days of touring so those activities might not be needed, or used much. EM -
I’m seeing a multitude of pill crushers on Amazon. Are you taking a safari? Are you absolutely sure you need malaria meds? It’s been many years since I spent time in a place where I needed malaria meds (South America, Asia) and I think they are different now. EM

With Carnival, the Dream class, Vista class, and the Venezia have Deluxe Ocean View cabins that have cabins for five. Two lowers, two uppers, and a sofa bed. Split bath with one toilet, two sinks and two showers. EM

Officially, they require everyone in a group to have the same package. But as a solo I have been seated at shared tables where some had a drink package, others not. So maybe it can be arranged after boarding. How many bookings are involved? There used to be a place in your booking to click on Travel with… and enter the other booking numbers. EM

OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK SEASCAPE JULY
Essiesmom replied to morpheusofthesea's topic in MSC Cruises
I think it’s in his Live from thread…. EM -
3. Yes, buffet and MDR are the only free dining areas. The burger, pizza, etc areas that are scattered about on other ships are all within the buffet. 4. Continental breakfast room service is free but if you choose Bella experience, there is a delivery fee. All other room service items have a cost. 5. In Bermuda you will get sunrise on one side of the ship, sunset on the other. But which is which depends on which direction the ship docks. 8. The major draw for Aurea experience is anytime dining. Bella and Fantastica have fixed, assigned dining. Some prefer it for the spa access and private sun deck. 9. A partial view balcony may have a partial or full metal balustrade which limits your view sitting down. You can identify these by the shading on the balconies on the deck plans. You will notice some larger, odd shaped balconies in the ends of indented areas. The cabins on one side with project farther and give limited of no view either foreward or aft. Sorry I can’t answer your other questions as I haven’t sailed Meraviglia, or been to Bermuda on MSC. EM

Help for a new Mediterranean cruiser - solo traveller
Essiesmom replied to AussieNewbie's topic in Solo Cruisers
Just because MSC is less expensive than many other lines, does not mean is is a bad experience. It is a different experience, European rather than American, or Aussie. If you want to explore them further, come on over to the MSC board here. EM -
Two at the most. Plus the White Night. EM
