  1. Or black flies in Canada if the OP is on the same cruise as I We have them from outback Australia - once you've experienced them you'll just keep them in a pocket - the flies are beyond annoying when you can't open your mouth without swallowing them. Amazon.com : Bug Head Net Mesh - Bug Face Netting for Hats - Insect Net Mask Cover from Gnats, No-See-Ums & Midges with Extra Fine Fly Screen Holes - Outdoor Protection for Men & Women : Patio, Lawn & Garden
  2. My partner ended up with a CPAP a few weeks before a big trip last year. The travelling by air was the easy bit - as a medical device its not part of your regular luggage allowance - evne Ryan Air allowed the extra carry on bag without a blink. We bought an extension cord in Europe because sometimes its hard to find a plug near the bed in older hotels. Luckily his machine doesn't need distilled water or regular replacement of parts just a new mask piece every year or so.
  3. It's a very good resource - I've gone through and downloaded all the relevant ports that we are going to!
  4. I was trying to work out whether the transit was sufficient or tours added anything- I've ended unclear - can you shed any light on the transit option?
  5. It's significantly cheaper to book in advance - can't you find out what your drop off time is?
  6. Itineraries - I don't cruise to look at a screen - mega or otherwise - I can do that at home
  7. I have wide feet - I don't even look at women's ranges - men's are always wider
  8. The themes are entirely optional. I do have b&w because that's what I wear for all my formal nights. Ithink its a bit of a shame because some people treat it like a fancy dress up night which its not - its a formal night
  9. It's called retargetting - you went to the website and looked at something - they are now showing that image again in ads personalized to your browsing habits. What is targeted advertising? Is it bad & how to stop it - Surfshark - if you want to avoid it use a VPN
  10. Yes we're staying at the HI Boston - also looked at the Found Hotel which is nearby but the rooms were smaller . The area looks very convenient.
  11. Where did you read that ? We're cruising HAL return out of Boston next month and the requirements if you test postivie on board haven't changed 7 days isolation longer if you don't test negative - partner has to test everyday.
  12. Look for somewhere close to a subway stop - tis calledThe T in Boston. We booked the youth hostel (private room) in January thinking prices would get better - they haven't - we go late July. Have a look for a hostel with private rooms there are several in the China town area
  13. After the flooding disasters in NZ last summer both major telecomms companies are advertising that they are going to be using starlink to provide 100% coverage for mobiles on land. That may well help with connectivity off shore but near to NZ too. I still think there will be plenty of dead spots in the Pacific - there is an awful lot of water and very little land in most of it. No money to be made having a satellite which can't connect to anyone on land.
  14. NZ reopened last year - no shortage of tourists now ! Tairei Gorge info here Schedule | Taieri Gorge Train Tour (taierigorgeshoreexcursion.com)
  15. I've just started packing for a 25 day cruise ex Boston to Iceland (cold!) and a month afterwards in Canada We need to pack for warmer weather too - 5 days in Boston will be the warmest but the weather in Quebec after the cruise should be pretty nice too. This is my basic clothing in the photo: from the left 4 light weight tops in tencel short or no sleeves navy/white sleeveless cotton top which is a bit nicer which layers with the 3/4 sleeved shirt (evenings on board) water resistant blue trousers light weight green shorts light weight blue culottes (maybe what Americans can capris? between knee and ankle) black merino trousers which are both my warmest layer and my evening trousers (they did ok on Cunard so should be good for HAL) chiffon glittery even top - which looks great over my black t-shirt (seriously) black long sleeeved black merino top black merino leggings Not shown: hat/ gloves, buff (all merino). Packable down jacket, packable waterproof jacket, merino zip-through mid-layer, merino singlet, underwear, socks, swimsuit. Waterproof walking shoes, sandals, and pair of lightweight sneakers. I also use scarfs and necklaces to dress up outfits for evening. All of my clothing is sink washable at a pinch and will dry overnight in air con or on a heated towel rail.
  16. I agree - we bring self-tests with us when we travel now. If I have symptoms I want to know BEFORE I seek medical attention to minimize risk to health staff. In fact my dr won't let you into the practice (its a repurposed residential house) until you confirm you have no symptoms and are wearing a mask via the intercom. And yes visiting vulnerable people in care facilities require a self-test on a regular basis. We ae fully vaccinated, boosted and had covid last year.
  17. That's crazy that you need a prescription for parts! I guess technically my partner's machine is still owned by the hospital and on long-term loan (it has their part number on it) - but when his mask split he just went in and bought a replacement. Our issue though is that its a NZ brand so its unlikely to be available tin the USA. He prefers to sleep with it most of the time, but if he has a cold for example he doesn't use it. "Luckily" our flights are usually overnight in economy so no need for it on a flight (they aren't allowed to be plugged in on planes).
  18. Depends on where they are sailing - all indoor spaces on all ships are smoke free in Australia and NZ
  19. Do they plug into port power on port days? To stop this sort of pollution in the port generally not just the pool deck? I've certainly seen soot in the pool on other ships, but only when sailing
  20. From reading these various reports I'm seeing that its worst on longer than 7 days - it seems to take around 5 days to establish itself. We're on a 25 day cruise with many port stops so pretty much will be masking around people inside particularly on planes, embarkation, theatre, buses
  21. If its important to you bring them with you - they are pretty small anyways. Shipping to a port is always going to be hit and miss. That said my partner doesn't bother and nothing seems to break on his
  22. Lucky you - US$62 / day doesn't really cover for the extra I'd drink being confined.
  23. Nothing to claim on minimal to no medical costs I should think
  24. Are they offering compensation? I don't cruise to hang out in a cabin!
  25. Actually I was wrong- they've got rid of the $50 liability it's now zero Credit & Debit Card Protection | Mastercard Zero Liability Protection Ans specifically for the Wise card - because it's not issued in NZ Wise-Customer Agreement - TransferWise.com section 21.6 - maximum losst is GBP35
