  1. The Gem last month served Veuve Cliquot in Le Bistro and Cagney’s.
  2. Just my opinion—Ice bar is a waste of time. Few drinks available—none good.
  3. There are no true 24-hour dining venues on the ship. Most have very restrictive (in my opinion) hours. The pub comes closest to 24 hours, but has several substantial breaks throughout the day and night.
  4. Also early access to dining reservations.
  5. You can ask the waiter in the MDR to bring you a mimosa.
  6. Train and short taxi ride are the way to go from central Paris to the cruise ships.
  7. Ugh! For me, a martini is gin, vermouth and an olive.
  8. Watched TV! Next time, bring a book, or better yet a Kindle loaded with books.
  9. Go for the studio. It’s laid out better, is less claustrophobic, has access to the studio lounge and is in a protected area of the ship.
  10. The Haven is quiet and comfortable. An attendant will bring you whatever you like—even setup a breakfast or lunch. The pool is a swim-against-the-current endless lap pool, perhaps the only place in the NCL fleet to get in a real swim.
  11. Who wants 2+ days of cold weather and uninteresting ports when a week out of Florida offers 7 days of warm weather and better ports?
  12. The early dining reservations are a big help.
  13. Free bag of laundry, early reservations for specialty restaurants.
  14. I was on this cruise and got Veuve Cliquot by the glass in both Cagney’s and Le Bistro.
  15. I was on the Gem this past weekend. Ate at Cagney’s (shrimp cocktail and twin double lamb chops), Le Bistro (escargot and duck breast) and Teppanyaki (salad, miso soup and steak and shrimp). I enjoyed all three meals. Note that Le Bistro has a surcharge for all (3) beef choices and Teppanyaki is very loud. Excellent service. No complaints here.
  16. Always has been, except in drenching rain, on my cruises.
  17. Why in one (very expensive) cabin? Two balcony cabins will nicely fill the bill.
  18. Look at it carefully. Are you sure it’s not for the Sept 28 Latitudes cruise on the Bliss?
  19. Enjoyed your review. Helped me relive my great Mediterranean cruise on the Viva in October.
  20. I believe that those reading about the issue on Cruise Critic are also entitled to an FCC.
  21. Took a Mediterranean cruise on the Viva in October. Food was generally quite good. Particularly liked Indulge—a nice new food venue.
  22. Who prints out The NY Times crossword any more? Much better to do it on my iPhone.
