  1. Nothing to see here, keep moving. That is your view right? Keep your head in the sand? I guess when the locals had their little tantrum and surrounded a ship a couple years ago it was an anomaly? Or maybe, just maybe...it sets the stage for something more nefarious happening at a later date? Personally, I think it is better to be cautious. my motto is never place yourself in a position with a high rate of failure. At this current time, there are several other cruise ports to visit other than Labadee. Now, if you want to keep pushing your narrative of nothing to see here...I think maybe you may have an alternative motive...like you are travel agent lol...whatever your deal is, with your current view, you certainly don't have my best interest in mind.
  2. Food...jewelry, hostage for ransom...
  3. "These people" "Not pushing away the cruise line that actually gives them money" I keep hearing a few say what you mentioned. Do you have a link which shows Royal Caribbean is handing out money to Haitian Criminals? They are criminals for a reason...they have a tendency to steal what they want. One other tid bit...there is very little food in the City... in some instances, they actually eat dirt pies. When people are starving they can be motivated to do about anything. I have seen on more than one occasion, security and other locals filling their pockets with food. While Royal probably does not have a problem with that, It would be naive to think nothing could happen at the resort area on a larger scale. Like I mentioned earlier, we have been intercepting thousands of Haitians on a regular basis on our shores and borders. Very common for a boat load to arrive right on the beach here in Florida. So there is that...
  4. They seem to easily storm across the ocean and cross our borders so I am pretty sure they can make it the 120 miles on land. I would have to say they are on the run to get away from city. Therefore, I would not be surprised if a few showed up to sell some trinkets they made while in jail.
  5. Almost" Mandatory Tipping on a cruise ship is annoying, it did not used to be this way. We literally put money in an envelope on the last day of the cruise and dispersed accordingly. Clearly the change made many moons ago to the current structure is a boon for the cruise lines. However, to me, even more annoying, are the Blow-Hards on this site who preach no amount is enough to throw the crew. Funny thing is, over the years I have made good friends with crew and each of them tells the story of doing quite well. So much so they Soley provide back to their homelands not just for immediate family but extended family. I personally leave the tips in place and reward extra "at my choosing" but I don't hesitate to light someone up on a survey if necessary. But for those of you who like to tell the tale of how you trot around the ship (like the scene on the movie Dumb and Dumber) wiping your nose with hundred dollar bills and flicking them in the air...by all means, continue to have at it!
  6. If you get seasick on an Oasis class ship (extremely unlikely) cruising is probably not your thing. That being said, avoid cruising in January and February as those two months pose the greater likelihood of choppier water. As others said, book a cabin lowest level mid ship. They sell sea bands that go around your wrist, I would suggest wearing those versus having patches stuck to your neck, getting the runs from green apples, burping up nasty ginger pills or sleeping the entire cruise away from using Dramamine.
  7. If she was all that, she would have used her own sail and sign card to get you a "free" drink.
  8. If my PVP threw me a bone...I would be extremely happy. If my PVP decided not to throw me a bone...I would be through with her.
  9. Thanks for the update Frank12....now that you have had time to walk about...any other new changes besides carpet? How about your stateroom? New linen, carpet etc.? The new casino is on the other side of the heros sports bar...for example walk past the sports bar and just before you go into the main casino turn left, go past the stairs and there you should find the smoke free addition.
  10. Might be best for you to concentrate on having a good time on your cruise versus looking for character flaws in people. A higher cruise line status means nothing when it comes to someone's character...anyone acting obtuse has probably been that way their whole life. Therefore seeking to label someone just because they are at a certain cruising level is 100% ridiculous.
  11. There is no charge to cash in your winnings/balance off of your sign and sail card when you take it to the casino cage.
  12. So far we have a prediction of paint only...followed by the prediction of IMAX converted to smoke free casino and then we have the sports bar remodel into a military theme. I personally think there will be new carpet and bedding or maybe it is just a hopeful wish...we shall see...
  13. Just order a scotch martini...that will do the trick.
  14. It seems we have two ends of the spectrum... one end says a month a half dry dock will end with basically a paint job and the other end we have a good freshen up of the ship and a new venue or two...we shall see real soon...I was on one of the Vista most recent voyages and collectively the crew I spoke with were dreading it as they had been informed they were in for some long hours assisting with the refurb. I don't think crew will be assisting with the azipods...so what does that leave?
  15. Theoretically, the "dry dock" started once the ship pulled into Port Canaveral Jan 7 and will continue possibly into its first voyage back. For example, they would not wait to get to Spain to pull up carpet, strip beds etc. all this prep and post work will be taking place.
  16. I am not saying you made a mistake. I said the app is unreliable. I also think it is important to clarify for everyone the fact (during check in) the pop up reminder of your passport being less than 6 months does not hinder your ability to use said passport. As to your question, the State of Florida has had the enhanced DL for several years now.
  17. Well, I didn't use that app and I never do for online check in as it is not reliable. If you would have completed your check in via anywhere other than the app, you would have had no issues getting past the simple reminder/ acknowledgement pop up message.
  18. May I ask what system and what error message did you get? Earlier last year my passport expired in about 4 months, when I went to do the pre-arrival paperwork on Royals website, it came up with a message informing me my passport had less than 6 months but nothing hindered me from completing the online check in and not another word about it from there on.
  19. Amazing how a simple question with a simple answer turns into a wacky thread with all kind of theories. The unexpired yet soon to be expired passport to the Bahamas is perfectly fine. Period. True story, on a quick cruise and stay to the Bahamas, my daughter has no passport and forgot her birth certificate. I happen to have a copy of her birth record. We went to the port and the port agent ranted and raved but ultimately accepted the document and we sailed. When we arrived, the Bahamas Customs agent didn't even flinch, same scenario on the way back to Florida. No issues.
  20. Built in 2016, wet dock in 2021.
  21. I am bumping this up as I too am curious to what is currently taking place. At this point, I am not sure why they are being so tight lipped about it?
  22. The sticker shock does not come until after the cruise is over...then it is too late.
  23. Yes, it will get the sporty new paint job. However, it seems they are being tight lipped about what all exactly will be done during the current month it is out of service.
