  1. Since I have some experience with this... Your Viking agent must call you after the cruise to be eligible for the discount. And it's only for a 14 day period. And they don't call everyone. I have never been called.
  2. Although I cannot use this promotion, I just wish to thank you for posting it. This was Clay's brightest idea. And thanks to UWDawg for the translation to a web page. And where in the world is Clay?
  3. I completely agree with lackcreativity and PasadenaDave. Tell me if I'm wrong here- DocKoob, who was so critical of Viking's beds, buses, restaurants, fellow guests, etc etc, ended up booking another punishing Viking cruise because of the booking on board discount and shall I say a hefty future cruise voucher because of a food poisoning issue?
  4. I happen to be on the December 21st cruise that had included Key West for December 22nd. We were notified of Key West being dropped on 9/27 with the "kind of" generous offer of $150pp OBC. I cannot believe they won't be rolling out this offer to latter sailings. Makes no sense to treat our sailing differently. And I will make Viking pay for this sea day.....I have the Silver Spirits package! No virtual explorers lounge drinking for me. We still have Colon "attached" to our sailing.
  5. This won't answer your question directly, but on a prior cruise that included a stay at a Hilton (not an extension), my friend wanted to get loyalty points for the stay. The response from the "front desk" was no, unless there were additional charges to the room.
  6. You are likely correct (as usual). But it's better than just losing the $. I will make a note to ask onboard on my Nov sailing. Twitchly suggestion about asking a Viking rep sounds good, but......I don't think I need to go on.
  7. Perhaps you can book some excursions now for late in the cruise. When you get onboard, cancel the bookings and they will refund to your credit card. That has been suggested in the past.

    payment

And a card like the Chase Sapphire Visa gives you 3% for travel. You then can use your accumulated points for other travel and get a 50% bonus. Always paid by this card.
  9. We were on a Viking Ocean cruise the end of last year. In our first port I asked our guide where is the best place to exchange currency. We were going to do Istanbul on our own for three days. He said, "are you kidding?". He said to use US dollars. He was right. All they wanted was foreign currency. Everything was cheap! It is now much cheaper. And the US dollars need not be pristine. Everything was acceptable. All the advice above is incorrect..
  10. That was meant to be.....only be me.
  11. Here is a code, expiring the end of this month. Sep22. It says reduced rates and lower air. It's good for certain Mediterrean Ocean cruises and river cruises. However, (there is always a however)-when I tried to do some dummy bookings, I realized I was the dummy because nothing changed. But it might only be be,
  12. TayanaLorna- Do you remember CTBob from that TA cruise? What has become of him? And, if you don't mind-what became of that woman from the mid-west (whose screen name escapes me) that started the TA roll call. Don't see either of them posting anymore. Thanks
  13. Viking is perfect. There is no need for any changes. Mr. Hagen- Does that qualify me for a free cruise?
  14. You look very familiar.... Call Viking immediately, if not sooner!!!!!!
  15. Thank you for posting a clearer version of WOV22. To be fair, the offer does say "up to free airfare". And I know the "up to free airfare" applies to the "Grand European Tour" river cruise. How do I know?.........That river cruise always offers free air.
  16. You, know....I'm just a sucker for this. It's like a car accident on the Long Island Expressway. You don't want to look and slow down traffic, but you have to. First, my TA's salary is comprised of a base pay and commission. My point in telling you the number of post Covid cruises I have taken is that I make my TA happy. I had 8 cancelled covid cruises. Although I use a major on-line cruise company, I always deal with the same agent. I value loyality! (I expect the same from Viking). Back to you- Your arguments are without merit. How can you suggest not using a competent individual as a TA because their company rebates part of their commission? I really don't understand you. But we are all entitled to our opinions.
  17. Dear Doc.... OMG! I AM NOT SERIOUS! I'm Mikey B! You spent way too much time responding to me. I believe in the past you admitted to being a TA. And you really appear to be high maintenance. You have also made these crazy arguments in the past. I have taking over 60 ocean and river cruises. 9 Viking rivers and 6 oceans. I have a very nice TA. Who does work hard for her salary. Especially during Covid. I have cruised 6 times since sailings resumed. However, now that I sail predominantly with Viking, I book directly with them and then just transfer the booking for the OBC. In my universe, I might have contacted by TA once or twice about a concern I had. Otherwise, I believe it was my dear Mother who told me only fools pass on OBC.
  18. Clay.... Not a "slight correction". It appears to be just a clarification. I gave the amount per couple since almost all sailings are based on double occupancy. And if your TA doesn't rebate part of their commission to you as OBC, then consider changing TA's.
  19. Not sure where "PM" is, but in the US it is $300, $600 or a maximum of $1,000. And it does come out of the TA's commission. I suggest you first book with Viking. Then you have 30 days to transfer to a TA, who might basically do nothing except contact Viking to transfer the booking. You might also consider getting someone who has sailed Viking to use as a referral. Then, both you and the person who 'Referred" you will receive a discount.
  20. In my 10 years of cruising Viking, I have just received my first "postcard". Is it a river cruise promotion......no. Is it an ocean cruise promotion......no. It is for the Expedition cruise, Antarctic Explorer for the period October 2022 to March 2023. Fares starting at $9,995 with free business airfare with suites. Promotion code ANT22 Expires 8/31. Savings is substantial for the cheapest categories, but is still what I consider to be expensive.
  21. LisaDee Thank you for the post. It appears to look real. However, I also did several "bookings" with no luck.
  22. Sleep 7 Very nice writeup. Thank you for the effort you made in providing lots of good info on your cruise. Now....where have I seen you........Syosset....Plainview....maybe the Home Depot in Jericho?
