  1. We went to hibachi last night on Allure and really enjoyed it. Our chef did not do the “flaming onion volcano” like we’ve seen in the land-based restaurants. Do they not do those fire tricks on ships? I hadn’t really thought about that until last night.
  2. One lady was mad because we stopped so the guys could use the restroom. She was telling people they shouldn’t use the restroom in the luggage warehouse (which is there for a reason, hello). She was also griping at a frail older man who had what appeared to be Parkinson’s about standing near the restroom. Maybe she should have offered to help him instead. 🙄 Another guy was yelling at everyone to keep moving outside, even though the crowd was so thick in that area that no one could move. These were port staff, not Royal people.
  3. Yesterday afternoon. Miss it already. I like taking alllll of the pictures, and my family humors me. Here are a couple of faves.
  4. I agree! It always goes by way too fast. A year of planning and then it’s all over. I’m really dreading going back to work tomorrow. We never rush off the ship, especially when driving. Had a very nice last breakfast in the MDR. Got to our car shortly after 9:00. It wouldn’t be the end of a cruise without rude staff yelling at us in the luggage warehouse. 😂 Final parking lot shot:
  5. Y’all are right behind us on Allure on the way back to Galveston. I’m not ready. 😫
  6. I wouldn’t have, either! I tried them for the first time on my very first cruise. I thought it was like eating pencil erasers cooked in delicious butter. Once was enough for me. 😂
  7. Technically, you can choose either morning or evening, but it seems that the stewards prefer morning and try to steer people in that direction. Thanks, we are pretty proud of him. It’s a whole new world having a teenager. Final sea day today, then we disembark tomorrow. Andrew says the 5-hour drive home is the worst excursion. 😂 I’m not ready to leave.
  8. Thank you! He shared some of the butter with me, I agree! Wow, I am surprised that you like it, too! We were a little shocked when our Andrew ordered it and even more so when he actually ate it all.
  9. Andrew tried the escargot tonight and liked it! He ate them all. New normal? The entire hallway was like this. Paradise Beach was packed today. When it started raining, the staff made everyone leave the beach and go under the roof where the bar is. The rain really cooled things down, though, which I appreciated.
  10. The heat was nearly unbearable at Chacchoben today, but we survived. It was great to see Mayan ruins, but it’s another one and done for us. More thoughts on Allure: It’s a beautiful ship. Our cabin is showing its age a little, but the rest of the ship looks great. It doesn’t feel nearly as crowded as I thought it would. The shows have all been fantastic. Regarding the new MDR menu at dinner, we miss certain old favorites, but the food has been consistently hot and the service has been fast and excellent. I do really miss the evening cabin service. Also, there are a LOT more dirty dishes littering the hallways now that stewards aren’t retrieving them from the rooms in the evenings. I suppose we will all have to get used to it. This cabin is really cool, but the bed is the absolute hardest bed I have ever experienced in my life. All Royal beds are hard, but this one is next level. I was considering sleeping on the couch at one point. My sore shoulders and hips will be happy to get home to my own bed, but I’m still in no rush for this cruise to end. Two days left! Hope the time doesn’t fly by. Not ready to return to reality.
  11. I see there are still a ton of burned out lights in the atrium (and dining rooms). We were on the first Dream sailing after Covid and I remember thinking, “you just had two years to fix that.” Clearly two more years haven’t helped.
  12. So here is yesterday’s “odd situation” to add to the others on this Allure cruise so far. After waiting an hour in the My Time line at the MDR, which was packed due to formal night, we got all the way to the host stand only to have him loudly announce that the dining room was completely full. He said that everyone in line needed to leave and come back in an hour!!! I expected to wait a while, but I did not expect that! Never had that happen before and we always do My Time. We kind of stood there for a minute trying to decide what to do, since we wouldn’t make our show time if we waited an hour to eat. When we mentioned this to the host, he magically found a table (weren’t they just 100% full???) and we were seated almost immediately. We were so confused about all of that and were asking each other “what just happened?!” SO WEIRD.
  13. Aqua show last night was amazing. Andrew was impressed with the high divers. Today, we explored the ship, rode the carousel and the zip line. Brian and I were pretty proud of ourselves. 😂 One and done for us!!
  14. @dbancroft and anyone else who is interested, here are pics of the ultra-spacious ocean view with large balcony on Allure. It is a large cabin that would sleep up to six people. Lots of storage. The bunk beds are inside that little doorway next to the couch, to the left of the bathroom. Bunk “closet” with its own wardrobe. Balcony with lots of chairs Andrew spends most of his time sitting in the window above the sofa.
  15. It was the number on the business card the steward gave us. Brian waited on hold so long because it was late and he was hoping to avoid an in-person trip. After the shower flood, he just went directly down again and didn’t bother with the phone. This morning, we returned after the ship tour and our room had been serviced. The bunk was again not “made up”. The duvet was removed, roughly folded, and tossed on top. No top sheet. I guess this is just how he does it? In the past when we’ve had the bunk that lowers from the ceiling, the stewards always made it up nice like a regular bed. Not impressed with this. But oh well. We are still having a good time.
  16. Mamma Mia was fantastic!! The singers were all so talented. I thought of you during the show. As far as the bedding, a different steward came within 30 minutes and made the bunk with fresh linens. I think our main complaint related to that was that no one answered the steward line on the phone, it hung up after 30 minutes on hold, so Brian had to go all the way down to GS in person (twice).
  17. So Brian went back down to GS again and they sent someone right away. He fixed something inside a panel on the outside wall and now magically everything is working. It’s 12:40 am and I’m beat!
  18. Yikes, now Brian just took a shower and the drain is so clogged/slow that the water on the shower floor overflowed up over the edge and flooded the rest of the bathroom. 😱
