  1. media reports indicate that he seemed to have issues finding the right spots to "vape" in and his family said he was probably drunk. I think this guy should be charged the full amount this cost the coast guard and what an extraordinary job finding him. Carnival sure has some issues with passenger behavior.
  2. it seems most every ship leaves before sunset which frankly as someone who usually stays on the island is great....are there any ships that either overnight or at least stay until about 11pm or Midnight? Thanks.
  3. Thank you for the correction. Have only flown in and stayed on Grace Bay....and my info is clearly wrong above. Cannot remove posts on here...tried. Looks like a beach day for most on Grand Turk.
  4. Yes get a taxi and have him show you the island based on what appeals to you. Beautiful island and taxi drivers may be entertaining too. You could check Trip Advisor for recommendations by frequent travelers and arrange in advance. When large ships come in taxis become scarce.
  5. in general Turks is all about pristine expanses of white sand beaches. Not much else other than luxury villas and hotels etc. especially around/in Grace Bay. They are having some gang related crime reports targeting tourists and if I were to dock here these days and wanted to see the island I would arrange a cruise excursion or private driver. It is a beautiful island but not really a "walking" kind of place except along the beach.
  6. curious what all of that is? It seems like you are in dining room. They do not have coffee. I do something like that when traveling and like that early morning coffee in room before going to breakfast. Just curious...thanks enjoy your first hand info from the ship.
  7. hard call these days...if you have a contact (planner) and communication is good I would say do all possible to get it turned back to a direct booking. TAs these days vary greatly in expertise...some are really valuable and some have not even cruised. Lots of caution needs to be taken if booking with an agent. I also like to book air directly with the airline to control route/seating and have direct access to the booking to note changes as airlines are not informing passengers let alone cruise lines of changes. good luck.
  8. Not sure I understand this question. A better question is why would anyone NOT have travel insurance...covid aside. Also it is smart to compare Princess insurance to independent companies.
  9. You have got the bases covered...hope it all goes well. Skip the bus type tours! Those don't look fun especially these days.
  10. That is awful just like the chaos at airports etc. It is a tough time to travel in general but when the stress starts well before departure date even worse. I guess anyone going in the next 6 months? better use all expedited options available? It is not much better here in US.
  11. not sure about Canada but processing here in US requires a long lead time....sent mine in and maybe took at least 2 months. It is just the way it is. The thing that got me about this thread is thinking Celebrity cared about it or would accommodate changes etc. And in response to the puns and humor correct totally missed it.
  12. Really great day by day report...will be following. Thank you. You ladies know how to travel.
  13. I see one security guy at the back that could do nothing. What a disgusting display and I assume all week the same crowd made trouble that exploded on the last night. No thanks. Carnival not for me.
  14. I agree with poster above...it is fraud. This is a well known problem and they don't want to lose the $$ so just keep that ship going. I don't know why anyone books it. Should be warnings on the contract. Sure one can miss a port from time to time but this is a KNOWN PROBLEM. The ship is not able to keep the advertised schedule. They should refund in full.
  15. Any traveler considering a cruise for the next months simply has to factor in the potential for covid and is that a situation you can handle. While covid is everywhere I agree with the quote above in that if contracted on a land based vacation while you "should" quarantine and hopefully do the options for sitting in an outside area away from people or even stepping to the beach etc. are there. Some of us could not handle being confined to a small cabin (even a suite) and that life for a portion of our trip. I think if masking is again required on all ships the numbers will go down but the question is will that happen and will that be okay with you. Booking a trip these days comes requires lots of careful consideration especially if you are a higher risk person including seniors.
  16. Great move banning ships from Venice....it was a long time coming.
  17. those rapid tests miss some ++...full PCR is better but not required. Some came on ship with covid and some got it onboard. Unless you mandale masks/distancing and patrol it unfortunately many will just do their own thing and ignore.
  18. I think what sealed the land based deal to me is videos people have been taking of the waiting areas..the line ups and worst of all people coughing and sneezing in the middle of the dining room...not covering their mouth or even attempting to do so. There are these people everywhere but at least on land you can isolate yourself better. I was surprised at how close the tables were placed on the ship. On land for spring/summer and fall outdoor dining is a great option...often I can go and NEVER eat inside. Many attribute their contact to dining room and ship excursions. Unless you get room service on a ship and dine on your balcony don't think full meals are served outside. Anyway everyone has a choice
  19. That sounds great...glad you had such a good experience and I fully agree with your last statement...although there is no such thing as "risk free" anything but each traveler can do their risk/benefit analysis to decide if and how to travel these days.
  20. This is part of the problem ...good example here in the back and forth. One person sets forth their experience and another comes along with a different experience. But instead of just accepting that there are different experiences and perspectives the second is more or less questioning the first and in a way attempting to discredit them. "Covid is a thing of the past" is simply not a smart or accurate statement but that is an opinion. I suspect it is a common theme among travelers out there right now.
  21. This is pretty common knowledge at this point and on some ships with not everything open the lines for buffet etc. are making any "distancing" not realistic. I think that is a forgotten concept. Many people wanted things "back to normal" and they are rapidly getting there...with one big difference..a highly contagious virus is being passed around and sadly the vax will not stop the spread. Now if cruise lines try to dial it back with masks etc. I think it will not be easy. At this point all up to your tolerance for the whole situation when vacationing on a ship with lots of people.
