Thank you for trying to send us a message @kb4683because of the delayed arrival , but I could not read this message that you received . In the mean time HAL has told us they hope to arrive at 11 am and will not start embarkation until at least 2 pm on Wednesday . Hope that is still the case .

Currently on N. Statendam. If you haven’t already heard, we will probably not arrive in PE until 11:00 on Wednesday. Had to turn around last night 5 hours from Aruba for 2 medical emergencies. Didn’t arrive back in Aruba until approximately 4:30 am. Currently doing 22kpm to try to make-up some lost time.
Thank you very much for letting us know @kb4683 , will keep an eye on that so we do not take too early a shuttle to the port .

I don't often make it to Page 1 on this thread, so I was in a hurry to post earlier, now I can add a few pictures from Ravenna. We were there in 2016 on Prinsendam, and Tony, @sailingdutchy organized a great tour, which included us and our DD.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures of this memorable tour we did together Ann @VictOriann it was so nice your DD Cathy was with us . What a beautiful place Ravenna is to visit , I could add another bunch of pictures of that day but we are busy packing for our flight tomorrow to Ft Lauderdale ......................so looking forward to another cruise on the Nieuw Statendam , I have some very big surprises in store for DW Martha , hope she likes it !
Take care everybody , I know I have not posted for a long while but I do some lurking .

Your high end jewelry stores will probably be open but some of the smaller locally owned shops will not be.
Mary/Bill would you please see if you can find out how many people will be on board the sailing out of Ft Lauderdale on this Wednesday the 16th. Thanks
We hope to be there also on Wednesday @regnic. They posted a couple of days ago that occupancy was expected at about 1550 ( out of a possible 2650 ) Post #486 .

I turned off the Live on my iPhone. It made me dizzy!😊
I have been busy all day! Garden cleanup this morning, and moving a few perennials. This afternoon I have been concentrating on what is going on in Ottawa. It is so interesting. The "paddy wagons" seem to have individual little cubicles and they can just put each person they are arresting into their own "room". What a huge response is going on!
Garden clean up ?????? What NO snow to shovel @VictOriann ?
and yes we like our governments and police response to the wacko's .....

Wat fijn ! Two of my good Dutch friends and they both are avid HAL cruisers together for this one topic @rotjeknor and @Alphen that is so good to see . So sorry to hear they cancelled the Volendam on you Jaap !You guys understand the European situation better than us Canadians we just see numbers of Covid infections in the different countries and some of those are scary in our view.We prized ourselves so lucky that we were able to cruise last October on the Eurodam in the Adriatic and the Med but than we were not allowed to get ashore independently in the 4 Italian Ports , only if we were on HAL sticker tours ????I have to say that HAL , the officers and crew on the ship were elated we were there and they did an incredible job during the 24 day cruise we only heard of 1 person that had to quarantine and we all had a fantastic time on board . ( for the BTB cruise there was a 45 to 55 % occupancy rate )We had booked the Rotterdam TA to Amsterdam in April ’22 but I put my plans on hold because there are only 4 ports to visit on that cruise , the Azores , France , Belgium and The Netherlands and the Covid numbers have really scared us off , can we get ashore and do small group independent tours or even visit with familie and friends in The Netherlands ? ( triple vaccinated )Hope the world will soon take a turn for the better for all of us and hope to see either you Jaap or you Jeroen on one of the DAM ships soon!Ton😍

Good morning, still. My original rule was that I was not to go to CC until after I rode my exercise bike, but that has now been amended to no posting until after I ride, but I read The Daily news after breakfast, thank you, all. So now I am posting, exercised, showered, dressed, and ready for lunch! Pat has gone for a walk and to pick up some prescriptions, and mail a packet of stamps to @sailingdutchy... DD has made a big pot of soup (potato and leek). We did experiment with the gnocchi and sun-dried/pistachio pesto the other day.
You know how to lure me out of my tent Ann @VictOriann I was just leaving the Daily for a few days as far as posting was concerned have just lurked a bit here and there , but you got me ! Even though I might have to plow out our mailbox I will patiently look out for the mail from you ! Thank You So Much !
The weather we are having now is perfect for doing my hobbies , like keeping up the stamp collection or doing large jigsaw puzzles , looking at more cruises or tours for cruises etc etc . Its good to be busy
Greetings from the snowbelt in SW Ontario , Will mail you later .
Take Care and big Cuber Hugs !

@WCB quote : “ I remarked that one day, we will split a bocce ball?sp, a huge chocolate eclair filled with whipped cream. Well, having mentioned that, the bartender brought over the huge pastry, saying why wait? "
That’s funny ! But as a born Dutchman I have to give you the correct spelling of what I believe from the description you had : A Bossche Bol , a delicious pastry which from my dear wife I am only allowed to have one per cruise , hahaha ......... because of the most delicious chocolate and special " Dutch " whipped cream filling. This pastry originated in the Southern Dutch city of Den Bosch ( or if you prefer and can pronounce the old name ’s Hertogenbosch ) it is kind of like a chocolate eclair but larger , fluffier and with much better chocolate and more cream !Tony 🤤🤤- 19

Here are the directions for smoking your eel: https://www.thedutchtable.com/2012/04/gerookte-paling.html
And how to serve it. http://deniseswonderland.blogspot.com/2013/12/gerookte-paling-dutch-smoked-eel.html
Fresh eels ready for smoking.
Enjoy your smoked eel!
Thank you very much for these pictures today @dfish like you said we love smoked eel , if they come out of the fridge or cooler just warm them up a little bit so the eel fat melts a little ................mmmmmm delicious . Hard to get here but if you are near a "Dutch store " in North America they most likely have them , but be prepared to pay big $$$ 's
I can taste them already in my mind .............

Good morning all , it looks like another nice day in the Daily neighbourhood , thank you Rich and friends .We have been a half dozen times to Ephesus from Kusadasi and I expect a lot of pictures today of beautiful Ephesus. In 2015 while on the Zuiderdam for a wonderful cruise in the Mediterranean we stopped in Kusadasi once more and I thought to surprise my DW with a different day out , I had booked a guide and with two other ladies we first did some touring around in the morning saw some Roman ruins , went to the obligatory carpet factory and before we went to a small local market to buy fresh supplies for the cooking class I had booked at the guides home with his wife so without further ado I will get to the pictures and they will do most of the talking I believe .To wake up and get acquainted some Turkish tea .For a couple of cigarettes from our guide to the local farmer we were allowed to take some pictures of the stork at a farmhouse right next to the van ……...Our supplies for what was coming ...............But first the sales pitchMeeting the guides wife in the very nice outdoor kitchen , our instructor and starting to chop .Getting right into itFilling the peppersDon’t worry they also kept me busy besides taking pictures I had to harvest grape leaves and do some chopping and rolling …..Testing and tasting .......mmmmmmmm !The final touchesWe dug right in so not too many nicely plated picturesIt was all delicious , we had such an amazing day and while DW did not know in the morning what was in store for her that day in Kusadasi ................ she just loved it !Tony 😁😘

Civitavecchia is always a nice destination to start , finish or be half way on a cruise and like many of you we have also been there quite a few times . Because I am expecting a lot of pictures of Rome today I will show some pictures from after disembarking our 2015 cruise on the Zuiderdam which finished in Civi and we than stayed a couple more days in the town of Fiumicino near the airport before crossing the Atlantic . While we were in Fiumicino we took an adventurous trip on a local bus to Ostia Antica the archeological site of the well preserved early Roman Harbour City near the mouth ( Os , latin ) of the River Tiber which is now a few km’s land inwards .Most of the buildings , remains , are from the 3rd up to 4th century BC . It is a very nice and fairly easy place to visit , even because of its large size and it is very nice to stay there for about 5 hours to take it all in .The mosaics on the floors are amazingThis was a self guiding tour ………where are we ………... and was was this …...Ah the forum and market placeWonder who collected all these heads that were chopped off ……….. she must have been very prettyAs you can see on the pictures the place is not overrun with elbow to elbow people , there is a lot of space so it is wonderful to really enjoy this .Time the next day to go home after a wonderful cruiseHave a great day everybody , Take Care and Stay Safe .Best thing …..just keep on dreaming being on a cruise soon !Tony 😁😘

Good morning all , the sun is shine here but it is cold -12 feels like -16 which I know is warm for people like @ger_77 on the frozen tundra .We had the pleasure to be in Hobard , Tasmania back in 2013 while on the Oosterdam which seems now ages ago , so just a few pictures today from the port and the gorgeous park we visitedBTW Tasmania was named after Abel Tasman a Dutch seafarer , explorer and merchant , he was the first known European explorer to reach New Zealand and the Fiji Islands and the Van Dieman’s Land ( now Tasmania ) Nov 24 , 1642 .The kangaroo and her kidThe devilOur wonderful guide Judy from “Eye See “ Tasmania , the " purple lady " who gave us a wonderful day and a delicious home prepared picnic out in the wild !Guess this is now also from the good old days an open flame BBQ out on deckHave a great day everybody Please Take Care and Stay SafeTony 😘

Happy that they asked us , and I believe most people will ask the cruise lines to ask for the booster shot , it is time for that now specially with the omicron because the efficacy of the first 2 shots has wained .

@sailingdutchy - Hi Tony!
I just noticed that we will be on the Nieuw Statendam with you for the March 27th sailing. We should try to get together during the cruise...
Fred & Mitzi
Keeping our fingers crossed that this will be possible Fred & Mitzi , we kind of booked this as a replacement of the Feb 2 Hawaii cruise which was so hard for us to organize because of all the uncertainties . So hope to see you on board the Nieuw Statendam

I just booked another trip, 7-Day Western Caribbean Obstructed Verandah. I immediately called and added CO for $175 and took a $500 cabin upgrade to an aft-facing verandah. As an extreme introvert who doesn't like crowds, the exclusive dining room already makes CO worth its weight in gold for me but having it pay for itself through the room upgrade is certainly a nice bonus 🙂
@sp00n Could you please tell us how or who to contact to order Club Orange ? And you mentioned $175 for 7 days so you are travelling as a single ? Thank you for posting your experience !

Good morning all for keeping the Daily going especially Rich , Roy and the Food and Wine contributors , and all of the people trying to comfort others that need a warm embrace !A few months back I believe I posted a number of pictures of Puerto Chacabuco that we visited while on our way to Antarctica on the Zaandam to keep up the Joy for the day while sitting here behind my computer staring at a very cold and snowy outdoors so today I will post a few more that do not need a lot of commentary , I will just transfer you to a beautiful area in Chile not that far South of SantiagoHave a great day everybody , please Take Care and Stay Safe !Tony 😘
