  1. A 500 euro note seems a little excessive in a country where £50 notes seem to be a rarity (and not accepted in some shops I believe). Mind you, the way things are going maybe we are getting close to needing a £500 note. However, I think shops may object if you went into the newsagent and bought a morning paper with a £500 note primarily to get change for your bus fare or car parking.
  2. So do I which could make it a bit embarrassing. I didn’t go out in public much and had a hard time at school. 😇🥴🫣😱
  3. I was told that it is on P&Os system and that eventually we will get the amended confirmation. Even if we don’t, we will get the OBC on our account
  4. We received a similar email (as did lots of others) last months for our Ventura cruise at the end of October. Not yet received an updated booking confirmation but when I rang them this week about something different, I checked whether we would receive the confirmation and was assured that we would. The increased amount is already on the system.
  5. Was the kitchen so busy that they didn’t have time to put whatever is in the cooking pot out onto your plate and pour the gravy? into a jug? P and O would never be so slapdash in their presentation. 😇

    GHIC card

Thanks to those who reminded us about it. Ours arrived a few days ago. Hopefully we will never need to use it but at least we are reassured that if anything untoward happens we have some immediate protection in addition to insurance.
  7. We have a smart meter and it certainly makes you conscious of usage and can easily save a small amount of money, just by being more aware. Our problem is that when we took out our new 2 year fixed deal in June, with the inevitable rise in our monthly payments from our previous deal, it is still based on the previous prices because it hasn’t updated. The energy company are charging at the new rate, around double the old, but we are checking daily usage costs by making an identical comparison to what it used to be. 🥴
  8. Hopefully not cold and rainy as it is next month I think. Probably not much of a contest though.
  9. It will be fascinating to see how many of the new converts to women’s football and the England team in particular, turn up to watch their next home match in early September at the Stoke City Stadium. At £15 for adults and £5 for concessions, it should reach the capacity of 30,000 easily I would have thought.
  10. The company who owns the site on which our static caravan is sited had their annual golf day today at Abergele golf club. The picture is looking back up the 18th hole towards the I’m a Celebrity’ castle. A great day was had by all, even those of us who didn’t win.
  11. Not easy to do on an iPad which rotates as you turn it round
  12. Are the chips on a separate plate and mushy peas in a small bowl?
  13. My son’s ‘breakfast in bread’ this morning. A small loaf, hollowed out and full of cooked breakfast goodies. Needless to say, he wasn’t able to eat all of it.
  14. So sorry to hear that. I hope you haven’t caught Covid to just cap it off. It will be interesting to find out how Princess deal with the complaints because I don’t suppose you were the only ones dissatisfied.
  15. I don’t suppose you have a cloudy 26 degrees any more.
  16. 40 minutes later and it has climbed from 25 degrees to 32 degrees. I hope it stops soon.
  17. Sadly, he’s a great West Ham fan. Every game they play, the fans seem to sing ‘I’m forever blowing Bubles’.🥴
  18. Currently 25 degrees here after an uncomfortably hot night. At least that is more than 10 degrees cooler than yesterday’s max but not for much longer I guess. Dog may get a shorter more shaded walk than usual in a few minutes. Even a slight breeze would help. Prediction of thunder storm later
  19. I have realised my error and we have returned home to sweltering, sizzling, sultry and sunny Stoke.
  20. We changed our plans and came to North Wales yesterday for a few days thinking the sea breeze might take the edge off the heat today and extreme heat tomorrow and Tuesday. I don’ know the current temperature in Stoke but I feel I may already have made a big error. It is sweltering here and most people seem to be indoors where it is likely to be cooler. Very sensible.
  21. Thanks for the information on GHIC card. I had an EHIC card that has expired but knew nothing of this replacement. It took literally 5 minutes to apply on govt website for me and Mrs Pete. I presume there are ‘companies’ who will charge a fee for applying for one for you (and getting basic personal details about you including your NI number) but doing it yourself is simple and free of charge.
  22. You are right Harry, the rises are frightening and the money has to be found somewhere. We were on a 2 year fix for £110 per month until last month. We were offered a further fix at £190 per month for 2 years or £160 on the variable rate. I snatched their hand off for the fix which already looks to be a good decision although sometime in the next 2 years, prices will have to fall (I hope). It would of course have been higher if we didn’t spend time in our static van but even when we are there, we are still using nearly £2 a day of electricity, presumably for the fridge freezer, security cameras, lights set on timers and things on standby. I feel very sorry for those with poorly insulated houses or who need to use more than the average electricity and gas and those who already struggling to make ends meet. They may not all be regular cruisers, possibly few of them are, but if you are struggling, holidays will be low on the list of priorities and perhaps one of the most expensive.
