  1. Fantasy Class ships! For many this was their introduction into cruising. I had the pleasure of cruising on the original Mardi Gras and the Celebration along with all the Fantasy ships, and we loved when the Ecstasy and Elation came here to Galveston. I've attached a few images to this post, so share yours. The one of my family shows a much younger man from at least fifteen years ago! See You At Sea! .
  2. I've said and posted here before that I'd sit with a family in purple tutu's and love the conversation versus dinner guests in formal dress that are miserable and have full intent on making my wife and I the same. In all our years of cruising we have only asked to be moved once. I'd do it again if needed.
  3. Well OK. I guess I've been remarkably lucky since cruising on the Mardi Gras in 1976. I read one of your other posts where you have cruised on Celebrity, Carnival, Princess and Royal this year, so you have seen the difference. I've seen a dress code enforced once on the Glory headed to Canada in 2014. They sent a father and son back to change from basketball shorts. When afternoon activities involve grown men roaring like Tarzan and grinding on a total stranger on the lido deck for a plastic trophy I would not expect Emily Post to make an appearance for fashion once food is served. My wife and I like Carnival since I can leave my driveway and be in my cabin in about 90 minutes in Galveston. We're booked on two in the next few months that will push us over 40 on the funnel. We also have realistic expectations on what people do versus a suggestion for dress. We also go back to the cabin on Cruise Elegant night a change back to shorts for the show and piano bar later. If I was sitting at the dining table with shorts and a polo shirt you'd never know unless you looked under the table. Since the food is on the top, that's wasted effort. See You At Sea! .
  4. Except it wasn't. And I carry my luggage on and drop it in the cabin when we board. .
  5. Let me correct my answer. Long pants are required for Cruise Elegant (ultimate oxymoron) only. I wore golf shorts and a polo to the steakhouse on the Breeze in November and will do it again later this month. I wear long pants only on Cruise Elegant night. .
  6. Best answer is no. The would need to have long pants and a polo shirt as a minimum. Some might give other advice, but who knows? See You At Sea! .
  7. Perfect winter day in Galveston: Breakfast at Mosquito Cafe Walk around the Strand area The Bryan Museum The Elissa at the Seaport Museum Dinner at The Gumbo Bar (two of them on the island) Good night sleep before your cruise Call us, we will come over for gumbo. 🙂
  8. First cruise was on the Mardi Gras for high school graduation and later as newlyweds. Then an absence for Disney with a young family and a return on the Ecstasy in 1995. The Celebration came here to Galveston in 2002 and we've been aboard everything with a funnel or Viking Crown Lounge that sails from our home port. Mix in a few more from Miami, Boston and Ft Lauderdale and we are hooked. The Breeze (again!) is next.
  9. Here is the email I received. Sorry if it has been posted prior. See You At Sea! .
  10. Here is the email I got this afternoon. If this has been posted a brazillian times please take it down. See You At Sea! .
  11. We have only stayed in lido balcony cabins on the Breeze and our experience is some of the plugs are recessed a bit. The image from your post has me curious if it will fit. I'd recommend a different one, perhaps with a short cord to move away from the plug itself. Check to make sure it is not a surge protected device. .
  12. You will be fine. Self Assist for debark and get moving. You'll have time for lunch at the airport. I make that drive often. .
  13. The new facial scan here in Galveston meant we didn't slow down for US Customs. No forms, no questions, zero. Home by 9:30AM for self-assist priority debark. .
  14. Learned that it's one-way priority when we made platinum. They could care less what precious metal you are on the return. Our strategy since then is to grab a bottle of water, find a spot in the shade and wait for the line to diminish! .
  15. Since I am adopted me might be related. I could be your over 60 uncle from Texas... I truncated your post, but the advice you give is spot on. We take a 1/2" binder with a copy of our birth certificates, passports (and the originals) drivers license, Carnival's policies on fans and ham radios, a copy of my ham radio license and a copy of our paid booking information. To your point we also print off all the prepaid items like soda plans, internet and specialty dining. Raise the geek level one notch my Stand On Guard For Thee friend and I laminate a couple of these for the binder. I know, I was that kid that ran the projector in 4th grade. See You At Sea! .
  16. One of the many reasons we love Conquest class ships the best! The Glory with the inside hot tub was really nice when we sailed to Canada a few years ago. Our second time to sail the Glory was an eastern route and they took the Adults Only sign down on the last sea day. The hot tubs became cannon ball contest sites. (this image is from the Conquest) See You At Sea! .
  17. You'd be surprised to know this is not uncommon at cruise ports. Check the Cruise Cam at galveston.com and and as soon as the ship(s) dock and the Deck Zero gangway is secure those that got new silver locking bracelets are led off the ship. Usually it's one or two, but we have seen as many as five. That doesn't delay the debarkation from Deck 3 via the enclosed gangway. The passenger manifest is run for warrants while the ships are at sea, and if a felony warrant is present and the warrant holder wishes to extradite then you will see the above described parade. Early morning on the Gulf Freeway on ship day it's common to see a police vehicle from area law enforcement making their way to GCSO for the transfer. Later in the day on the county website you can see the persons name, age, and charges. .
  18. We have experienced one cruise post-Covid and were able to check in 48 hours early, enter the terminal here in Galveston at 10:00AM and board with the first group. We did get the letter for Priority Self-Assist (we are platinum, not diamond) and were off the ship and home before 9:30AM. In the text below Carnival gives themselves an out for this. What we didn't see was the return of the Priority Entrance and separate line to enter. Has that returned? If you've been on the Breeze lately and were diamond or platinum what was your experience? Here is the text from the diamond and platinum benefits page: Until further notice – Given our focus on meeting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) requirements and implementation of new health and safety protocols, we will need to adjust how we deliver some of the VIFP priority benefits, as follows: PRIORITY CHECK-IN & BOARDING – Platinum and Diamond guests will now be given 48 hours advance access to select their preferred Arrival Appointment while completing their Online Check-In. A boarding zone will be assigned based on guest's Arrival Appointment. DEBARK – We will do our best to offer priority debarkation, however, this may not be possible if we have unusually high numbers of Platinum and Diamond guests on board. Finally, the Breeze didn't leave until 5:00PM yesterday. If you are aboard did they offer a reason? I listened in on the embarkation via HAM radio (hilarious every cruise) and the ship was turned over from the embarkation team at 3:50PM. Just curious. Here are a few images from the Breeze in November: https://photos.app.goo.gl/d6DHtHHjYrjNobtd9 See You At Sea. .
  19. A rarity post Covid. So far our experience has been on Carnival since the return to cruising, other lines may be different. .
  20. Some variables: if you are cruising Carnival now make sure to remove the scissors. They are on the prohibited list. I also gave up a trusty $12 tiny Swiss Army knife from my key ring to cruise on the Breeze.
  21. Both terminals are close to The Strand in Galveston. It resembles old New Orleans and if you visit galveston.com and then click on dining you will see many options. We love Willie G's and Yagas Cafe. .
  22. Go to the CVS website and schedule your tests at the Seabrook, Texas location. They are quick, have not failed us on two cruises since the return and we had results emailed to us before we got home. If they are booked then try the one in Deer Park, Texas, zip 77536. They are as good. Message me if you have any questions. .
  23. I carry a small fan on every cruise. I've also been told twice I could not do so. Here is what I do as I'm at the "Get off my lawn" age of 63. The fan also has the UL sticker on the base, and I showed the private security company conducting the screening the first time I was told no. Print the Carnival policy and have it handy. We carry a 1/2" binder with our cruise documents, passport copies, vaccine card copies, boarding documents, pre-purchase item emails and the policy allowing HAM radios to be carried aboard. That stopped the questions here in Galveston on our most recent cruise. See you at sea. .
  24. The second part of your comment (I truncated) supports your decision! And, in modern history of mass market cruising no one has ever fallen from a cruise ship unless reckless behavior was involved. Most, if not all of the time alcohol, doing stupid things or passenger behavior regarding themselves or to others is the cause. .
  25. Yep. Landry's Inc. He owns the San Luis, the Galveston Convention Center, Bubba Gumps, Landrys, and most of the other precooked food disasters here in Galveston. .
