We had been informed a few days before that the arrival would be delayed. We live just north of NY City, so we were lucky that we could just stay home and reschedule our car service pickup. My recollection is that we arrived at the pier around 6PM. We expected the Breakaway to be there already because we had not heard yet about those last minute emergencies you described. Once we got going it was a great trip. Here we are with Chief Engineer Zoran, Staff Captain Viktor, Captain Matko and Hotel Director (now GM) Vuk.

My wife and I were on pier 88 waiting for you to arrive. It was the repo cruise to NOLA. We started boarding at midnight, had the muster drill at 2:30AM and eventually departed at about 6:30AM. Just looked it up. It was October 27, 2018.

Recognized Captain Matko and Chief Zoran from past cruises on the Breakaway, and Staff Captain Marco and Restaurant Manager Melroy from the Escape. Does anyone know if CD Will Oliva is related in any way to CD Alvin Oliva?

The late night snack hours of 9:30 to 11:30 in the Garden Cafe were eliminated a few months ago as one of the many cutbacks. Many of us, like you, used to like stopping up there for a quick snack at the end of the day. No more, unfortunately.

Thank you. We were on the Getaway for B2B cruises in early February. The concierge was Huberth Perry, and Lourdes was the assistant. Ask her if she remembers Victor and Nancy who ended up with a drunken passenger in their bedroom one morning at 4:50AM.

Regarding Deepak, do you mean his last day on the ship until he comes back from vacation, or really his last day on the ship? ie he’s moving to another ship or another company.

Thanks for posting all of this. Great to see Shailendra Sawant is now a GM. Cruised with him as F&B Director many times on the Breakaway.

@SGCruiser2013 That BTS tour sounds great, especially the visit to the bridge. You mentioned the Captain spent time with you. Do you happen to know his name?

You should start this under Norwegian Cruise Line Roll Calls and then under Norwegian Spirit Roll Calls. Check to see if there already is an entry for your cruise before starting a new one.

Hey @PistolPete13. I am enjoying your reports, as usual. The Carnival ship was the Carnival Celebration. Her maiden voyage was this past November 6. So, she is, as you thought, the newest ship in the fleet. She is also the largest, at approximately 183K Gross Register Tons. By comparison, the Getaway is around 145K GRTs. Enjoy the rest of your trip. And if you go to Maho Beach tomorrow, don't forget to duck.

My one piece of advice to you is to make sure you pull or push your door shut all the way until it clicks. Our door needed a little extra force to close, and one night we did not pull it all the way, and we ended up with a highly inebriated passenger standing in our bedroom at 4:50AM. Have a great time.

Glad you were able to make it to GSC and that you enjoyed it so much. That smaller RC ship, by the way, is the Freedom of the Seas, maiden voyage in 2006.

Unfortunately I think that late night snack was only because it was New Year’s Eve. It was gone from the schedule by the next night.
