OBC vs cruise cash

"OBC vs cruise cash" is a bit of a misnomer for a title.

Cruise cash is non-refundable onboard credit. The difference being instead of being awarded by the cruise line as a booking or stock bonus or from being diligent about watching for price drops, someone needs to purchase cruise cash. Be it either with available credit/balance from a credit/debit card, or by redeeming points that otherwise could of redeemed as cash back or a statement credit.

There are three kinds of Cruise Cash. Cruise Cash may be used for any purchase onboard. Cruise Cash Bar may only be used for bar related purchases. Cruise Cash Photo may only be used for purchases from the photo department. There is a $500 limit for buying each and they are all non-refundable.

What's the difference between buying cruise cash and just using your sign and sail? Just cause you can buy it ahead?

You use your sail and sign card no matter what, cruise cash is allowing you to put money on your account before you cruise. With cruise cash you use it or lose it. So make sure you use it all.

Which is why if you have the willpower you should just take real cash and apply it to your S&S account. That is totally refundable. With cruise cash, Carnival takes your money adds nothing to it and makes it nonrefundable.

Some people find peace of mind in spending $500 up front vs $500 later.

For me, it's a silly concept. I don't want to force myself to spend a certain amount. I'd rather spend what I want, and not have to go to the casino to get my difference back.
