Probably a Stupid Casino Question

Okay, it has been 16 years between cruises for DW and I and most of the details of our last one have been forgotten. We cruise on the Getaway in September. My wife and I are not big gamblers, but we do enjoy a few hours playing slots in the casino once in a while. At most casinos we have gone to recently, you go to the cashier when you enter and get a players card preloaded with any amount of money you want to play. Then, you stick it in the slot machine and it loads the “money”. When done, you print a ticket and take it to an ATM-type machine, which gives you your winnings/remaining money in cash.So, how does it work on NCL ships? Is it similar? Or do you use your room key to charge it to your cruise account?

You will use your room key for casino gambling.

You put US dollars in the machine. When done, press cash out and get ticket. Take ticket to ATM and get cash back.

We got Casino cards at the desk. I don't like the thought of accidentally leaving my room card in a machine.

The casino cashier had to enable my cabin card to be able to download to the slots. A PIN is required.

This is not the whole story. You can use your room key to track your gambling (I prefer to use the regular CAS card in case you forget the card in the machine). Or you can use your room key for charging $ to your room at a 3% fee. Otherwise you just use cash like most normal land based casinos.

Just bring the cash you're willing to lose, as that is the most common outcome. That's the very easiest and cheapest way. You can still use your room key to "track" your play.

There is a Player's Club desk that will give you a separate card for earning/tracking points so you don't have to use your room card. You can use your room card to charge your gambling to your on board account, but they will charge you a fee. What I do is bring the cash I plan to gamble with on board (there are ATMs but the fee is exorbitant on those as well). When you "cash out" from a machine, you get a ticket just like you do in any modern casino. You can insert that ticket to continue gambling instead of cash. When you want actual cash, you take that to the cashier and exchange your ticket for cash.

You can also use the casino players card to charge funds to your onboard account for the 3% fee. And you can also cash in your Tito (ticket in, ticket out) slip at the ATM machine that performs double duty. No fee for that, and convenient when there’s a line at the cage (cashier).

There is no need for players card, especially with low gambling levels ($20 is not really worth tracking). You can use your room key if you really want to be rated.

I agree with bird. No reason to even bother tracking $20. Just have fun, put the $20 in and cross your fingers. Lol
