Best Piano Entertainer on Carnival? (Part 2)

Just off the Inspiration. New guy in the Rhapsody (the piano bar).

His name is Barry, but he is NOT Barry Miller. he is younger, and Dutch. A very skilled pianist but not an experienced performer in a venue like a piano bar. He will need to really expand his repertoire, and learn to modulate the music to a range he can sing in without using his voice up in the first set of the evening.

But very charming and has much potential!

Brad and Ben are probably the two best Carnival has.

I love Brad. We are on the Breeze in March and are just missing Brad but I heard great things about Ben too.

Does anyone know who is on Valor for Feb 2014 and know a little bit about them?

If you look back in this thread a bit you will find that Russell is well liked. He may not have the best singing voice in the world but he is entertaining and is one of the favorites.

Conquest piano bar was not good at all. Spent a half of a hour in there and all Martin did was babble incoherently mumble under his breathe about people just standing in the doorway. He played 2 songs in that time period one of which he had to restart because he lost all account of which verse he was on. But at least he got 2 drinks down in that time. We left after the 5 minute lecture about tipping. In order to receive tips for service you need to be satisfied with said service. Dont waste your time with him he makes a better art auction helper then piano man.

I agree he has a lot of potential he just needs to learn some more song. When I was in there he was writing down names of songs that people requested that he didn't know. He said " I have a lot of homework to do".

I am leaving for the Carnival Liberty Saturday 2/1 and I understand they changed our Piano Man AGAIN for the 3RD TIME :( ... First we had a newbie who didn't have the correct paperwork and couldn't get out of Canada, then we were excited to find out we had Brad Alexander and now he's been transferred to the Breeze...

 

From my understanding, we should now have "Jonathan"... thats all I know about him except that he doesn't have a very large knowledge of songs, doesn't even know Bad Bad Leroy Brown and does alot of country... for me ok---not so much for hubby :(

 

Does anyone know this Piano Man.. does he have a facebook account or a website..?? Any info would be appreciated.. We love to spend our evenings hanging out at the piano with the Piano Man, but we need one who will keep us entertained...

Just got off the Liberty on 1/18. I personally did not like Jonathan. I asked him to play less Country and he replied " your in the wrong place". He didn't know Journey's "Don't stop believing". He said that he doesn't know how to read music he learns by sound so maybe that is why his song list is limited. Every time we went to the piano bar he was either on break or singing the same song over and over again

I agree, Jonathan was not great. He could play and had a good voice, but was not entertaining and had a limited song list. I was disappointed that Brad wasn't on our ship.

Does anyone know anything about Andrew Pobjoy? I'll be on the Dream when he boards for his first cruise. I hope he makes it fun.

OK....slightly belated and I do HOPE to write a review this coming weekend BUT for those of you interested in Piano Bar thoughts.....

I was on the 2/1 sailing of the Liberty and we spent LOTS of time in the Piano Bar with Jonathan Thompson.

The first night I was just not sure it was going to be good but I have to say I wound up having TONS of fun with him.

Jonathan is new not just to Carnival but to the ship Piano Bar scene in general. His repertoire can admittedly use some working on as he seems to know more country songs than other genres and he has not developed a whole bunch of fun, raunchy, late-night stuff some of the "greats" have developed; however, he was fun, had a good personality and was willing to take whatever requests he could do. He was amicable with the crowd and pulled people in. There were a couple of pax with great voices and he was happy to let them sing with him. He also seems to have a good group of friends among the Carnival entertainment staff who also joined him for songs each evening.

If you are sailing with him soon I would definitely suggest spending some time in the Piano Bar.

P.S......His beverage of choice is coke and jack which he gulps down in one sip, ice and all......beware of Canadians who buy him 9 at a time....that hurts!!

I just got off the Conquest and I can honestly say Martin Aucoin is by far the worst piano entertainer I've ever experienced! He didn't know most requested songs, doesn't have a great voice, is dull, his song choices are so boring and definitely doesn't have the personality for a piano bar entertainer. Not to mention the few rude comments he made towards guests the two nights I went in there.

My last three entertainers (Ron Pass, Ben Gentry and Marty Gast) were all great and had the Piano Bar rocking every night. The piano bar only had a few people in it most nights on this cruise and it was easy to tell why!

Anyone know who will be on the Liberty June 20th? I would choose the Breeze the same weekend if Martin Aucoin goes to the Liberty.

Last years cruise was with Larry Maconaghey.

He was fairly good. His wife was fun aslo.

We had a good group of regulars at the PB and he delivered for us.

Not the top, but above average. Nothing really dirty

but dysfuctional farm song kinda funny.

(forgot to give a review last year)

This year I am on the Glory leaving on April 6th.

Jordan Hepner is listed as PB player.

Anyone have any first hand info on him (not from his wife)?

Has anyone seen Greg Alcock? He will be on the Valor when I sail her. I've never heard of him.

There was only one truly exceptional Piano Bar entertainer in Carnival's history and that is the one, the only, the immortal- Ron Pass. Others can try to match his greatness but don't come close.

Anyone have an opinion on either Andrew Pobjoy or Kimberly Krohn ?? We're on the Dream on a back to back & the piano bar entertainer is rotating

Have there been any updates since February? Just booked the Conquest for next February and am hoping above all odds that Martin Aucoin is NOT on. Love to have Marty Gast again..he was on the Freedom last February and we had a blast. Thanks for any info!!
