Best Piano Entertainer on Carnival? (Part 2)

I just got off the Breeze a little over a week ago. The piano bar is one of my favorite places on the ship and I usually hang out there a lot. That said, this cruise I never stayed there more than a couple of minutes. There was never much of a crowd there and the bar stools around the piano were never filled up.

 

Don't take my word for it though... I've been spoiled by the best. Go check it out for yourself.

I liked Adam. When I was on the Breeze last fall, he filled in on Ben Gentry's night off. I thought he was very talented and engaging. I enjoyed listening to him. (And I won't lie, looking at him too). The Breeze is only his second contract as Piano Man. He was a pub soloist and moved over. I really liked his voice and his musicianship.

Christine just finished her first contract on the Inspiration. She comes from a dueling background so her show should be pretty high energy. I think you will probably like her.

Wow.. had to look back 9 pages to find the PB thread...-

Just off the Carnival Triumph where Alan Sheppard was our PB entertainer. I believe this is Alan’s first contract with Carnival and I have to say I was impressed. Here is my “review”-

First off, I think I need to warn you that Alan’s PB style is a bit different than the traditional PB you get on Carnival. Alan runs a very high intensity piano bar that is constant sing along. He brings a secondary electronic key board that he plays along with the standard piano for both effect and accompaniment. But to great effect. He does not stop to do a bunch of chatting in-between songs. Most songs blend from one to another and sometimes he would not complete the full song before moving to the next. It really depended on the crowd’s reaction to what he was playing. But doing that allowed him to do an awesome job at getting the audience involved in the song and had lots of people singing along. It was almost exhausting because there really was no break between songs to rest a bit, he just kept playing at times. But it was a rocking fun time. He did take requests but it was like he just added your request to the end of the song list and kept playing.

The result- the piano bar was standing room only each time I went in (except when he was taking a break).

So I would give him an A+ for getting the audience involved (he even formed a conga line at one point while his computer keyboard kept the song beat going..

He had a pretty good singing voice and he is a very talented keyboard player.

My only negative I could offer is the volume.. at times it was almost too loud.

Bottom line- I hope Carnival gives him more contracts, he certainly was entertaining. Great job Alan!

Does anyone know who the Piano Bar Entertainer will be on the Pride when she comes out of drydock in November? I thought I saw somewhere that it was someone named David Ross, but I could be mistaken. I looked on John Heald's blog, but the last piano bar schedule entry in June said "open" in November for the Pride.
