How Much Money To Bring On a 6 day Cruise

Hello everyone,

I am going to be going on a cruise beginning of December with my boyfriend we will be going on Carnival for 6 days to... Mahogany Bay, Cozumel, and Belize.

I know that in the beginning of our cruise we will need to open an account for any expenses we have on the cruise with the card they give us. Which my boyfriend and I decided we would do with cash instead of card. So as of now we have saved 1200 together total for anything that would be on the boat and on ports. We both will not be gambling, but we will be having a good amount of drinks per day. And we are hoping to do at least one excursion. Spas, photos, etc will not be purchased.

Will 1200 for two people be enough for the cruise and for ports? or should we bring more?

We are going on a 5 day and purchasing the cheers card which will be almost 600$ total. I don't think we will drink that much prob around 450 maybe 500 but now that the card includes top shelf and all other drinks (coffee, milkshakes, soda and water) we will be able to enjoy with out questioning... I don't know if I can afford that... so the less hassle and extra inclusions make it worth it to me. So drink card or not will be a big question if you are drinkers. Now we are taking 300 each for excursion and gambling or anything else we want to do on and off ship. Honestly we aren't big on excursions we like to restaurants hop and try new foods and island drinks, we allow 150 of our 300 for that (75 ea) I could do a Cruze with 1200 easy. But we also come days early and hotel and food and gas has us a total of about 2000. But just cruise money easy 1200

Gratuities will run roughly $25 per day for the two of you, so that's $150 (assuming "six days" is the same as six nights). You should be able to keep drinks under $100/day between you; if you're doubtful sign up for the drinks card which will price out a little above that - so 600-700 for the week. An excursion will cost the two of you 100-200 unless you book something independent.

If you have the drinks card you probably should do the bulk of your in-port drinking on the ship. You've already paid for it!

Seems like it could be tight unless you cut back on the drinks, either on the ship or in port. You're also not leaving any money for little things like a souvenir glass or T-shirt.

Will you be parking? That's another $100 or so depending on the homeport.

We already paid gratuity in advance. And we plan on using rum runners to hopefully sneak in some alcohol and bring the two bottles of wine that we are allowed to bring. A family member will be dropping us of at the port so we wont be having to pay for the parking. Thank you both for your responses. Just trying to get an idea of how much we should bring in. :):):D:D

We average about $100 per day, including gratuities, drinks and an excursion or two but we buy drinks mostly at lunch & dinner and Cunard is very permissive about what liquor you carry on (but we pay much more for that privilege!).

If you watch your spending $1200 should be enough but it probably won't keep you in booze from sunup to bedtime every day.

The short answer is always "it depends upon you".

We have done 2 week cruises with a total ship account bill not counting gratuities of less than $50 total for the 2 of us. We don't drink much if anything. We don't gamble. We don't get massages. We don't buy souvenirs or other crap on the ship unless we have OBC. There isn't much else that you can spend money on the ship. I will admit that we do take tours (private only) but there are always thing you can do in a port that don't cost much.

So again - it depends upon what you want to spend your money on. Personally I can't imagine in my worse dreams spending $1200 in 6 days.

The short answer and the best answer as far as I am concerned. I take what I feel like on our cruises. Last cruise i took over $5000 in case my luck was terrible in the casino.:)

Not as easy as you may think to sneak booze. If you are caught you will lose the booze and perhaps the rum runners. Would suggest other ways to economize. Cruise lines are getting pretty good at identifying smuggling - do you really want to risk.

My practice is to estimate how much I know for sure I will need for standard onboard expenses, including gratuities, and then add another 50% to that amount. I would hate to be in a port and see something I really want for a special souvenir or gift for someone, and feel like I can't get it because I have to keep all my money to cover my ship board account.

That said, your planning would be much simpler if, as others have said, you put the bulk of the saved money in the bank and use a credit card to cover your shipboard expenses, and use the savings to pay it off.

We are taking the same cruise over Thanksgiving. Here is my plan for family for 4 one cabin approx. $1100 (no gambling or alcohol): if you drink, consider buying the cheers program (50pp/day), We will get our teens the bottomless bubbles (soda plan $120 for 1 adult and 2 teens). This is cheaper if ordered before boarding. You will be required to pre pay tips (12-13 pp/day ) I think we estimated $90 pp for 7 days. In addition, we will tip the cabin steward upon arrival ($20) this is controversial but I promise you...you get better service, Sting ray city excursion in Cayman another tip $20 , room service nightly for our teenage boys $40 ($3-5/night- bring lots of singles/and 5's), Faster to the fun $70/cabin, A few photos ($35-40), Mahogany Bay chair lift and kayak excursion $64 per PAIR, we also preorder 2 cases of water bottles and a few sodas to our cabin (again cheaper if done online before leaving- no delivery fee). Will skip the spa (mani/Pedi's, massage scheduled for the day before $125.). Wi-Fi for 2 teens (social package) $40 ($5 per day).

We just came off a b2b. The cruise line didn't deliver dh luggage and he thought for sure they lost it. He ask our room steward if he knew anything. Finally they delivered a letter saying we had to go to a certain area of the ship to open it for security. We went and opened it. What they thought was booze was a spray can of suntan lotion. Dh asked why this happened and they said we thought you had booze.
