Hi All,

Interesting topic.

I am over 50... and brought up to be pretty modest... so I wasn't the girl at 18 or 20 who was burning my bra... going topless... or flashing my boobies at music idols at any Rock Concerts (Yes folks it was the 1960s and I remember them).

:confused::(;)

So here I am 50+ and have decided in the last year or so... that I've missed out on some stuff.

Example...

I've only been skinny dipping once in my life... and it was in the dark with my Husband at a Family Cottage.

Counts because I did it... Doesn't count, because I've only done it once in 50+ Years (what does that work out to 1 Day in like close to 20,000 Days... an Hour in 480,000 Hours... ). When you get to my age, you start to think about these things... Waining Years, Days and Hours.

Anyways... I'm happy to read all about this topic and that others can talk openly about this subject without eyes-rolling, finger pointing etc.

:)

I've been thinking that now that I'm officially over the hill and don't care so much what others think... that on this BIG Vacation away for just Mr Sloop & I alone, just might be "one chance" in my lifetime that I get to do something truly out-there

Notice I didn't say "my one chance"... or "my only chance" ... because I'm hoping that life gives me lots of opportunities in the years to come to do many many out-there things that push my usual "safe" boundaries.

Others have a "Kick the Bucket List"... where they list all the things they want to do before they die... I have a "Kick A** List"... Forget about making a long list and checking it off over time... Do some spur-of-the-moment stuff... that you do just because you can.

After reading thru various posts here on the Ports of Call Forums about all these topless beaches...

I've already decided I'll be going topless on some beach... just haven't decided where.

Truthfully... going topless was an easy decision... because although I do have an AARP body... (loved that nickname)... I prefer to think of it more as a classic car... sure it's got mileage... and not nearly as new or stylish as it was in its younger day... but its been a lot of interesting places... and its owner, friends & family loves it dearly.

So although the body might not be in the greatest of shape... it does have a great set of headlights !!

(OK couldn't resist throwing in some booby humour)

And not because they are "spectacular" in any way shape or form... BUT because they are HEALTHY !!

And for that I am thankful.

At this age, I've had a TOO MANY friends and loved ones get breast cancer... along with many others who have fallen to the BIG C in one form of another (many of them gone in the last year or two... all too soon... and far too young)

Figure I may as well flaunt these puppies now and celebrate !!

As for the folks who don't partake and stroll down beaches just to gawk... or comment (gosh how small minded can ya get). Maybe all the naturists should take to pointing at the Gawkers... I bet that these Prudes who care so much about judging others... probably wouldn't like the tables turned on them.

As for me...

Next time you all see someone over 50 (or 60, or 70, or 80) who has got the kahunas to strip off... despite their aging bodies... remember that they probably have an amazing youthful spirit... and it is all that any of us could wish for as we age.

I'll be living life to the fullest sans top in St Martin !!

Cheers!

Hi There Sloop -

You are one COOL CHICK - thanks for your post!

Hey Sloop! Good for you girl! My wife has been topless at Orient for many years, but this year was a first. After a few beverages in the hot sun she yielded to all the guy coaxing and jumped on the bar for bar shots. All flavors of liquors licked off to the last drop. Even the bar tender, cook and Johnny at Le String participated. Can't say it was a bucket list item as she will probably be at it again next time.

We have been to Orient Beach several times, and it is one of the prettiest places we've ever been, nudity or not..... does not bother us one bit. Will be there again next week off the cruise ship Allure of the Seas. Can anyone tell me where KonTiki Restaurant is in relation to Club Orient? We have enjoyed eating there on a couple of trips, but can't remember exactly how to get there.

If you are facing the water , it is about a 5 -10 minute walk to your left, right on the beach.

I am from SC where we are used to just throwing a towel or blanket on the sand and having a seat. Is that something that is done in the islands? We are traveling to St Martin & St Thomas, TIA!

That's exactly what we do. We never rent chairs or anything. We also spend most of our time in the water. So, we feel that it's kind of pointless (for us) to waste money on chairs. I've always been a beach towel type of girl. :D

Did anyone mention - if you don't want to be recognized when you get back on the ship then leave your cruise ship towel in your beach bag! Laying out on your towel from the ship is a real give away!

Well, if you head up to The Perch for happy hour, make sure that you either put on your clothes or have a towel to sit on at the bar.

Just catching up and I have to tell you all an Orient Beach story vis-a-vis the above quote.

My wife and I and friends have been visiting Club Orient beach for many years and yes, we do the full Monty with an AARP body. One year in February we arrived at Club Orient Beach as early as the ship would turn us out and found it pretty crowded since it was high season...and there were plenty of Europeans (of AARP Body type) having a whopping good time cavoreting au natural. In a group of 3-4 couples laying on lounges, there were 3-4 older men standing just on the edge of the sand where the wet meets the dry, with armfulls of Mardi-Gras type colored beeds.

There were several ships in port so there were plenty of gwakers coming from the non-clothing optional side of the beach to the north. So these guys (and wives) evidently had been there for several days as they knew there would be plenty of non-natives coming to peek. Propped up near-by on a chair was a large sign that said SHOW US YOUR BOOBS:eek: and they would offer beeds to any of the strolling women who would do so. We laughed our tan lines away, it was so funny. Some of the guys would walk up to the wandering tourists and in full frontal nudity ask them to show the group their boobs. Now some would blush, keep walking straight ahead or divert their walk path into the water and some even turned around and walked back where they came from. And yes, many actually flashed and all three guys would rush out and given them some beads.

It was all in good fun and none of the male escorts seemd to object, perhaps hoping their consort would comply with the locals' request. It was the best thing to do from the view of our lounges. Who could read a book with that kind of revelry ten feet away?

Anyway, even with the round-trip taxi, it is the best $20 excursion one could take. We're renting a villa on Orient Bay, just up the street in Septembr and will be a regular at the Club beach chairs. Wonder if they have a 2 week rate?

Cheers all and happy cruising...

I don't know about a two week rate, but you can rent 2 chairs and an umbrella, $100 for 7 days, and you have 9 days to use them.

Might work for you if you don't need them 7 days in a row.

Good deal! Do you know if we can arrange that with the attendant the first day or do we have to do so ahead of time with the "front office"?

Thanks for asking all these questions. They're the same ones we have. And thanks to all those that provided the answers! Now we won't have the anxiety of not knowing where and what - just the anxiety of baring it all for the first time.

I'm sorry that I've been away from CC for a bit due to vacation (sadly not a cruise).

You really don't need to wait to get to St. Martin to "get your feet wet" on a C.O. beach. Their is a clothing optional section of beach at the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area in New Jersey. The beach is called "Gunnison Beach".. If you google either "Gunnison" or "Sandy Hook" you will find information on it. It is a very nice piece of beach with a view of the NYC skyline. The clothing optional section is clearly identified. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from us, so it should be the same for Philly - we go south the catch 276 West, you would probably have to head a tad north, depending on where in Philly you are.

If you get there and aren't thrilled with the clothing optional experience there are plenty of areas of "textile" beach in the park. There is a $10.00 per car fee to enter. The beach has lifeguards and is patrolled by N.P.S. Rangers, so it is a fairly safe environment and if you have any issues the Lifeguards and Rangers will not hesitate to offer assistance.

If you have any questions that you can't find answers to through a google search, feel free to send me an email at kcurt1 at verizon dot net.

I grew up in Central Jersey and think I remember talk of this, or maybe another beach, back in the '70s. Never really liked the shore, and really got spoiled hitting a Caribbean beach for the first time last year. Thanks for the info, maybe we'll take a ride over and check it out (after Irene gets done with it  ).

Didn't see right away where you were from. We're from Chalfont, so would be about, what, 10 minutes less drive :D

I guess that depends on how fast you drive!

I couldn't agree more with NJ Shore vs. Caribbean! The water sure is a bunch warmer in the islands!!! But sometime you just have to play the cards you are dealt.

If you decide to go on a weekend during the summer...you should get there early...before 9 most weekends. After that the lot for that beach can be full and you will be diverted to the next lot which is a good walk from Gunnison. You will also find that the C/O side is packed with people and the textile side is rather empty in comparison.

We were at Orange Fever and you could get a bucket of 6 beers for $10.

So, think about it. Where would you get your cooler, where would you get your beers, and what would the beers cost you?

Is Orange Fever also clothing optional? Trying to determine the closest clothing optional beach/bar area with beach service from where the cruise excursion drops us off without walking a mile

Orange Fever is just on the textile side of Pedros, a short walk from the start of the clothing optional beach at Club Orient and you will have to dress to go there. The Perch is the bar for Club O but there is no beach service, you have to walk up and get your own. But Happy Hour at the Perch is worth walking a few feet as naked as you choose to be.

Many, if not most, of the taxis will drop fares at the parking lot adjacent to Pedro's.

Pedro's is right at 'The Rocks' that separates the textile from the optional part of the beach.

Even though it's perhaps 50 yards to the Club Orient property, Pedro's operates chair/umbrella rentals in that stretch which are clothing optional, and they offer food and beverage service to those chairs. First drink is included with the chair rental, but they will bring full menus if you request.
