Virginia21 Posted July 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Hello fellow cruisers, I’ve been on quite a few carnival cruises I’m new to HAL. My favourite part about cruising is the piano bars and singing along having a few drinks etc. so much fun! Does HAL have these types of bars on their ships? I will be on the Amsterdam in Alaska. Thanks :)
Rare Scrapnana Posted July 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Yes, they do. On Amsterdam the piano bar is called the Rembrandt Lounge (Promenade deck, midship, starboard side). I spent about a half hour looking for something called the "piano bar" before I found out.

AD5ZA Posted July 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Yes, but it's different than Carnival where the piano bar is usually in a separate enclosed room with doors to keep out competing sounds. Amsterdam piano bar is in an open area with a major walkway going through the area. Sounds from the casino and sports bar can overwhelm the music. There is no seating around the piano as in most Carnival piano bars. Sing along on HAL is not as prevalent as on Carnival. The piano bar is one, if not the only thing I think is better on Carnival Sent from my iPad using Forums

I have only been on two HAL ships -- both the Niew Amsterdam and the Maasdam had piano bars with seating at a bar around the piano. The pianist on the Niew Amsterdam encouraged participation (she even distributed maracas and other "noise-makers" to encourage patrons to play along with the music). The Maasdam pianist had a nightly music trivia contest which was well-attended.
Virginia21 Posted July 17, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Thanks for the reply. The music trivia sounds like fun! I guess it also depends on which HAL ship and every pianist is also different. Some are better than others etc.

I've only been on 4 HAL cruises, but I've yet to see a HAL piano bar anywhere near as lively as Carnival. I've seen some singing on HAL but its mostly just listening. It's just a different crowd. I was on Zandaam in May with Mike in the piano bar and there was tons of singing along. But then again, Mike was one of the best entertainers I've experienced in a cruise. Oak Hill Cruisers Posted July 17, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 17, 2018 On the 2018 World Cruise on ms Amsterdam, we really enjoyed Jamm the piano man. He had sing-alongs, music trivia, theme nights (Gershwin, Cole Porter, show tunes, etc.) and requests. There was some noise from the sports bar and casino but never loud enough to interrupt our enjoyment.
