So, as the title says, we have just been given some credit for our cruise but as its my wife and I's first cruise we are not certain on where we can spend this. So far we might use the credit for the following in some capacity. Although as we have literally just been given the credit today, its all very fresh as to where to use it and not even certain we can use it in the places we 'might'

So far the options for usage of the credit are a combination of the following:

(1) Speciality dining (Not sure if we can use the credit to buy a meal package, we assume we could)

(2) Bars to top our drinks up, for more specialist drinks. (For example pay the difference for JD)

(3) Room service

(4) Casino

(5) Video arcade

(6) Art gallery. (We may pick up some art at an auction, even though fully aware of the bad reputation it carries)

(7) ILounge. (This I would be very surprised if it was possible to buy anything using ship credit from here, so this is more a question than anythign else, is it possible?)

(8) Shops. (Can ship credit be used in the shops? As in the Michael Kors shop for example, or some Lancome make up)

I know the credit would not stretch to all or most of these items, but having never cruised before and not sure how ship credit really works some advice would be warmly recieved.

Thanks in advance

The only thing as far as I know OBC can not be used for is the deposit for a future cruise...

We have used it towards drinks, speciality dining, excursions, iPads, cameras, perfume, watches....

The only downside we have ever had to OBC is the delay sometimes in it being applied. We always take a paper copy saying exactly what OBC we have. If by day 3 of the cruise we can not see it on our tv screen we will see the concierge or guest relations and ask them to sort...

Have a fabulous cruise!

First, you should know that on-board credit, OBC for short, comes in two different forms: refundable and non-refundable. The OBC provided directly by Celebrity is almost always non-refundable - it's a use it or loose it situation. But the OBC provided by a travel agent is generally refundable - if you do not use it, then Celebrity refunds it back to your on-file credit card within a couple of days following the completion of your cruise.

Both types of OBC are deposited into your ship-board account and applied against any charges that you make to your account for most any on-board purchase. If you have both types of OBC, then your non-refundable OBC is automatically used first and your refundable OBC is not used until all of your non-refundable is utilized.

I know of only two exceptions to your use of OBC while you are on board. If you decide to book a future cruise while on board, your OBC cannot be used to pay for the associated deposit - it must be charged directly to a credit card. And while you can use your OBC in the casino, there are restrictions. The chips that you purchase with OBC are special promotional chips that cannot be cashed back in. You can bet them just like any other chips, but you can never redeem them - just have to keep betting with them until you lose them - hopefully winning some regular chips in the meantime! And the slots have a similar restriction.

You can also use the OBC provided by Celebrity to makes certain purchases prior to boarding for such things as shore excursions, beverage packages and specialty restaurant bookings.

Have a great cruise.

Just a little info about the OBC provided by Celebrity. When you go on your MyCelebrity a pop up will show up telling how much Celebrity OBC you have.

Anything on the ship you purchase will go on your account as a negative, the OBC will show up as a positive. You’ll get the hang of it on the TV your first day.

As the above poster said you can view your onboard account on the TV in your stateroom. Any OBC will show there as a credit on your account (negative charge). Just don't expect it to show on your account the first day. It usually shows up by the second night. I also recommend you bring documentation with you regarding OBC either from Celebrity, your TA or other source. Very occasionally there is a problem where something is missed. Having this documentation with you will allow it to be sorted out quickly at Guest Relation Desk.

If you haven’t pre-paid your gratuities the OBC can be used for that as well. Actually, with the exception of purchasing a future cruise deposit, anything you charge to your cabin will have the OBC applied to it. It’s automatic; you don’t have to tell them to use it for this or that....
