To answer your question the single entree lobster is bigger than what you get with the surf and turf. If possible, I would throw in the additional $15 and eat at the steakhouse, very nice dinner. My wife and I eat there once or twice every cruise and have never had a bad entree, app, side or dessert. If you go on the first night of your cruise you will receive either a free bottle of their house wine or 50% off any bottle of your choice. Cheers!!

The Carnival steakhouses (at least based on what we experienced on the Splendor) are very nice, but they don't have them on the Inspiration or Imagination. It's the MDR or buffet only, with the "Steakhouse Selections" items offered in the MDR for $20 extra.

The upgradded lobster only dinner is 2 halves of a lobster tail (1 whole tail split). The filet and lobster is a half of a tail. I had it on the Inspiration twice. I was pleased with the taste both times. Although I did think the all lobster dinner was not worth it for $20 the taste was good!

Great idea! I think it will be worth it if you do it that way! Don't forget apps, and sides as they don't come with it (I don't think)

We sail on the Paradise quite often and there isn't a Steakhouse on board. So, we order the Steakhouse Selections at least twice on the 4-5 day cruises. Surf and Turf is my favorite and I've never been disappointed. Medium rare filet mignon grilled perfectly and the lobster tail is cooked perfectly and not rubbery like the little tails you get in the regular MDR fare. I have also ordered just the lobster tail and it is very large and very tasty. Would highly recommend on the Paradise, but can't speak about the Inspiration or Imagination.

On the I & I ships from Long Beach the lobsters are usually Pacific Spiny Lobsters. These taste best in the 1.5 to 2 pound range. There is a lot of competition for these bugs as Indian casino's are offering them in their buffets. I did eight at San Manuel.

When there is a shortage the purveyor offers product from Boston or tails from Australia. Boston bugs have the large claw, and the ones from down under are larger than 2 pound Pacific Spiny tails only. Eastern lobsters do not taste as good when not taken from a live tank. I have not seen a tank in the pantry of the I & I ships.

Ask the waiter what is aboard. I like to make my own surf and turf by ordering the lobster from the steakhouse selection, and a flat iron or tenderloin steak from the regular menu. Gives you a bit more lobster than the surf and turf selection.

I've sailed several times on the Paradise and really like the ship. In June the four in our group ordered from The Steakhouse Selection - two got surf & turf and two got the lobster. The steak I got was pretty tasteless - I had to dip each piece into the au jus or gravy. My lobster was pretty good, but my sister's lobster was not good at all - very rubbery. None of us are really foodies, and the casino comped the meal, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but if I would have paid for it, I would have been a little disappointed.

To be honest, overall the MDR food wasn't that good on that cruise. I always hear people say that the chef onboard really makes a difference in food quality. I don't see how that could make that much of a difference, but who knows. I have certainly had much better food on previous cruises on the Paradise.
