NCL cutback predictions for 2011

Epic will have 3.0

the rest of the fleet has gone direct to Freestyle 4.0

I went to an all inclusive land resort in May. 1299 per person including air for 7 nights, 8 different restaurants + buffet -- all free. Water, soda, and booze...all free.

The hotel had 620 rooms for an occupancy rate of approx 1240 with double occupancy.

All day activities and entertainment plus a nightly show, casino, sports bar, pool tables etc...

Beautiful pool and beach.

They make enough to stay in business and prosper so why does NCL have to charge extra for everything on board to make a profit. Only difference is the gas to run the boat.

I read that yesterday' date=' too, about the coffee makers being removed from the cabins on the one nighter since we were on that cruise and had a coffee pot.

So I sent an email off to F & B Dir. yesterday.

Confirmed that coffee makers in the cabins are gone:(

(I take it suites still have the special machines).

It wouldn't surprise me if the next change is some sort of charge for room service (I believe Royal does that for late night service).[/quote']

Not that I am question your contact but did they say all the coffee makers? Another poster that contacted a F&B Manager on one of the ships said it was removed from inside and oceanview but left in the balcony and suite cabins.

Someone chime in that has just gotten off a ship this week please.

ohhhhh and the three quarters of a billion dollars of financing per ship, and the thousands of people that keep it from sinking.

Funny.... Keep um comin'.......

My gut feeling.....

"Coffee Machines available at your request, just ask your room steward..." probably added to the tent card that says mini bars can be emptied.

Being NCl it will be presented in a patronising childish way, something like...

Want freshly brewed coffee in your room? Then just ask and we will bring you your own personal coffee filter with a endless complementary supply of the finest US blended coffee that you can drink....whenever!

That is silly. I never used them but many did. Not sure this saves any money but it will let the room stewards finish quicker.

Think about it. Room service will be running silly in the morning bringing pots of coffee to those passenger that that first cup in the morning is important.

The web team will have months of work removing coffee & tea maker from every individual cabin description. Add to that the removal of every reference, picture, or video of welcome aboard bubbly. In fact they should retake every cabin picture (or Photoshop) with no coffee maker.

I wonder what else we will find in these 1/1/2010 changes.

i emailed the public relations dept this morning to see what they have to say about all this. As for saving money, I just don't know what to think, but yes, I guess time would be saved by not having to clean them. As for room service and coffee, we cruised probably 15 times before we did the Jewel and never had a coffee maker in our cabin. We did just fine with room service..As a matter of fact I am not sure we had one on our last Princess cruise, but I am not sure..

I don't know what AI you were at, but that is a hell of a good deal. Many of the really nice ones are twice to three times that much and do not include air..Are you saying it was $1240 per person or per room? Even $1240 per person with air is dirt cheap..Of course where were you flying from?

I just got a note back today from NCL reference this question. The "precruise" office advised me that coffee makers will remain in balcony rooms.

and we had 4 cup coffeemaker with coffee inside the filter to use. Creamer was peel off the top not the powder stuff. Very great coffee.

Then last December on Jewel we had a BA balcony for $500 and it had a hot water pot with instant coffee which neither of us would drink. So I took it up to the buffet at 6AM to fill with coffee & cream in a glass & we were all set til we went down to the MDR for breakfast. Even plugged it in to heat up.

Refusal to add a legit/advertised fuel surcharge when the price of oil has gone through the roof?

They bought that fuel months ago. They're just waiting for others to tag on the fuel surcharge and they'll join right in. ;)

Wow. A CL eliminates a free glass of bubbly and they become opportunistic crooks.

Im really not bothered about the Bubbly at all but I can undersand why the line would scrap it.

Back of an envelope maths here but.....

$6 per bottle

6 glasses per bottle

2000 glasses per cruise, (easy done with the atrium hangers on)

$2000 per cruise saved,

Now heres the bit that seals the deal at board level.....

Many people get on a Ship excited, wanting a drink. If the loss of Bubbly welcome would generate 1000 extra bottles of beer or highballs during the first day......

across the fleet, in a financial year you've got half a million USD revenue for nothing. Now, i've been a little heavy handed in my calculations but you show a projection like that to your board that are going to say 'try it, watch the chat rooms and reviews and if we can get away with it, do it...'

You add all these little things up, little things that someone at NCL has decided will not be seriously detrimental to the overall product you've put millions and million back on the bottom line.

I'd just rather they added the fuel surcharge than start removing features - Its not just the bubbly.

1. Bubbly

2. Mints

3. Latte machines in buffet

4. Complimentry latte's after dinner

5. Coffee makers

6. Self service laundry facilities

I also now no longer see references on ncl.com to the 3 to 6 bottles of complimentry liquer for higher end suites...

its a subtle difference but I don't think its about the money they save so much, more about the money the make on other thinks when they take these away.

All the things you mentioned do not add up to the cost of the fuel surcharge so I would rather they take those away than add $70.00 or whatever per person. You can only drink so much cap ex. The coffee makers are not gone for balcony and above by the way.

No they don't but the fuel surcharge was an advertised "feature" - should be no surprise. The others were a surprise. I don't mind expected surprises and I can pre-plan for them - I don't like unexpected surprises.
