HAL considering going totally non-smoking?

do they really have clothing-optional cruises?

Oh, Suse ... it would be a full-ship charter, not just a large special-interest group onboard a regular sailiing.:)

And, yes, I've seen comments on these boards about nudist charters.;)

Gives new meaning to the 'Explorations Cafe' or perhaps 'The Pinnacle Grill'

If ever there was a call for some deep cleaning by HAL staff I would say every public lounge after this kind of charter.......

and leave HAL alone. They have a reasonable policy and I don't have ashtray breath because I don't smoke. I just don't like people telling others how to live their lives or demanding the cruise line to change their working policy for their personal prejudices.

I beg to differ. As I stated on my earlier post on this thread, I had a very unpleasant experience with smoking on our Veendam cruise last Dec/Jan. We avoided walking through the casino when we wanted to go to the theatre, avoided any bars that allowed smoking however, it was impossible to avoid going through passageway to get back to our stateroom which was literally reeked with smoke. I was very unhappy smelling like a smoker when I got inside the cabin-my hair and dress. This is what I strongly object too. Also, upon returning back to our stateroom from the Lido deck, entrance to the passageway from the staircase, the smoke smell was very noticeable. The couple who had a stateroom more forward from us nicknamed this section port, midship verandah deck 'nicotine alley'. There are more incidences that have occurred in other areas that I will not mention. My main objection is the stateroom smoking. HAL should revisit their smoking policy to avoid unhappy cruisers like me to defect to other cruise lines.

I do understand the issue of smoking for non-smokers, especially those who are sensitive to smoke. There's been alot of talk here about switching to other cruise lines. Just checked out the smoking policy on other major lines and found that Princess and Cunard allow smoking in cabins, Norwegian allows smoking in cabins, RCCL allow smoking on balconies but not in cabins, Carnival allows smoking in the casinos and dance clubs (didn't say anything about cabins and balconies). Costa and Crystal allow smoking in the cabins. Why is HAL's smoking policy viewed as being more liberal than other cruise lines?

It is more liberal than RCL, Celebrity, Azamara, MSC and Oceania. Carnival has set aside a few non smoking spa rooms according to their website. So HAL is more liberal for smokers than Carnival.

It has become more liberal as the others become restrictive, possibly less by design than by timing. Some folks and my TA explained that there is a migration taking place between the companies most sensitive clients and smokers who must smoke in cabins and balconies.

As best I can tell the HAL view is that changes have been made, no smoking at the Lido pool and the Ocean Bar, Monitoring is continuous, but no promises of further changes are being made.

Can I bring a microwave with me on a HAL ship? :D

I'm only asking since everything else under the sun has been covered.

Blenders

Bathrobes

Smoking

Buckets o beer

No jackets/ties on formal night

String lights on balcony rails

Sleeping with the balcony door open

:D

We missed this as well when we booked our first HAL cruise on the Eurodam next month. It's obviously far too early to suggest this will be an issue but if the balcony becomes a problem we will reconsider who we book with in the future.

smoking is not a big issue on HAL at all. I don't know where these people have been, but we have never had an issue. only place where you will find smoke is casino and HAL has a very good air cleansing system.

never saw ashes on the balcony and there are VERY BIG WARNINGS - don't even have the smell.

Sometimes I think the anti smoke lobby gets carried away. this is a great ship, great ambiance and the fact that they let a few people enjoy themselves in very special locations should not demean the cruise line.

In fact,I think it makes them special. If I don't drink, does that mean we can't have bars.

Each to their own. They don't bother me and I don't bother them. but some of them make very good dinner companions (no smoking permitted there either)

All the best, Jacqui

The possibilities are endless ... all I'm saying is that at some point HAL may need to revisit the smoking-in-the-cabin vs. endless requests for deep cleaning issue. Time will tell ... but I would surmise that cost for requested services vs. revenue will come into play.

and the other thing to consider....who books the deluxe verandahs and penthouses???????????? I'm sure HAL knows. I know for a fact on my last cruise there were at least 4 rooms smoking. I was only in SB so I didn't get to know them all, but I think that is pretty revealing. Money talks!! I think they will pay more attention from an SA than an inside cabin.
