Carnival's Steakhouse - Worth the price?

The dress code follows the dress code specified for that evening on board; if the evening is specified as Cruise Casual, shorts are not permitted

Per the website that TAs use to send you Carnival cruise information. And I don't think "jackets" are listed as part of the attire on elegant night anymore.

The $35 is "worth" it if you don't mind spending it. For what you are getting (and I'm not talking quality) it would probably cost you $50 to $75 at a good "special place" dinner restaurant in your hometown.

We went last cruise first night, free bottle of wine and the dining room was empty. Food was good. We paid $70 for 2. Next cruise i will trey the chefs table instead. Thought the little burger and teaspoon of soup were great but crazy sized. And the steak i got was just good. Dessert was good and they will let u take your wine or dessert back to the room.

I've never had the opportunity to take advantage of the steakhouse (or supper club) on any of my cruises.

Please let me know if this is a must do! ;)

Thanks!

We've done the Steakhouse and it was worth the money, but not sure if we'd do it again. Also we've done the Chef's Table which is more money but we really enjoyed it. You get to meet the head chef, actually go through the kitchen while they are preparing and serving dinner, and then go to a private area for a to be remembered dinner. The price is $75 per person for a 6 course dinner with unlimited wine.

  • 1 year later...

I was browsing everyone`s view of the Carnival steakhouse from others and i saw this thread and i thought i would do a more recent review. We traveled on the Valor in March 13, and we took advantage of the free bottle of wine on the first night of the cruise booking the Steakhouse. I enjoy my wife`s company and not always with eight other people at our table. So when we go to the Steakhouse it is much more intimate. The steak sure tasted prime cut. The service is impeccable. You receive an appetizer, salad, entre, dessert at your seating. We enjoyed it so much, we went again during that seven day cruise. I would do it again. I would do the chef's table again also. These do add to your cruise experience. It is extra cost to your cruise. You can eat in the MDR and get good food and service. I enjoy the ambience.

We think it is so worth it. We eat there at least twice per cruise. Actually on a cruise on the Magic where we had horrible service in the MDR we would have eaten there every night if it had just been my husband and myself, but alas we had our DS, DIL and 2 grandkids with us.

As soon as I book my cruise I make my Steakhouse reservations.

My wife and I have eaten at many a steakhouse in our time - Morton's (Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston) - Smith Wolensky's (Houston) - Gibson's (Chicago) - Killen's (Houston) - Sullivans (Dallas, Houston) - Silver Fox (Dallas) - Bob's Steak & Chop House (San Francisco)- =etc.......the steakhouses on these boats are incredible. For the price you pay, you will get a meal and service equivalent to any of the places I have listed above. We have reached the point on our cruises that we eat more in the specialty restaurants for dinner (Carnival --> Steakhouse, JiJi, Cucina - Princess --> Crown Grill, Sabatini's) then we do in the MDR.

For us its worth it. We live in a small town with just a couple of dinners, great for breakfast and burgers but steak is horrible. It takes us 45mins to go to any chain like Outback/Olive Garden so going on the cruise ship is nice. IMHO the steaks at the steakhouse are better than Outback. Last time we went I couldn't finish my prime rib so took it back to my room where my two teenage daughters devoured it.:D In June I plan on taking the whole family not just DH and myself; I feel the kids are finally big enough to eat most of their food (they are 14,16, and 18).

Since we enjoy the main dining room and getting together with extended family every night there and aren't really into steak restaurants, it's not worth it to us. They do have very nice cuts of meat and it looks like a really nice place. If you are the kind of person who when doing a high end meal goes for a steak dinner, I think it would be a good choice.

I have eaten at the steakhouse on 2 of our cruises and say $60 per couple is well worth it. I love steak houses and have been to very high end restaurants spending $200 per couple and have been very satisfied with the meal on the ship steakhouse. My husband who can eat, never finishes his meal. If you have the extra $60 in your budget I would so it. We are not big liquor drinkers so typically we spend $80 giving the wait staff a $20 tip.

Yes it is but the Cucina del Capitano is even better for only $12PP.

We thought so too...enjoyed the steakhouse but enjoyed Cucina as well and the price. They also have a NY Strip in Cucina that a tablemate had and said was very good and a manageable size.

We have only been on two cruises that had the steakhouse ...the first was the Dream in May 2012....my husband and I loved it.....other people may get to experience dining like this .... but where I come from we don't......we did the steakhouse again in May 2013 on the Freedom ... once again we loved it.....we have a cruise booked on the Sunshine in May 2014 and the plans were to love the steakhouse again.....but my husband went to work in September and had a massive widow maker heart attack and died.....so the two of us will never get to have that experience together again.....we thought it was money well spent....and it was nice to be able to "slow down" and just enjoy being together and have wonderful food served to us. But I know everyone doesn't agree......just like I had someone tell me the other day that they would never pay for a cabin above the Riviera Deck..that it was a complete waste of money....I on the other hand hope to NEVER be on that deck again
