Can you bring your own beer on board

Recommended Posts

OK - No FLAMES. The reason I ask is we have only cruised on DCL and you can bring as much beer and such on board with you as long as it fits through the scanners. With fridges in the rooms on DCL it is a HUGE money saver. We don't drink alot but for 2 adults on a 7 night cruise the bar tab can add up quickly.

Does RCCL allow this?

You can bring it aboard but you have to sneak it past them. There are a quite a few ways of doing it and it is done successfully. Go to the "Saving Money on Your Cruise" threads under "Cruise Discussion Topics". They call it smuggling. If you get caught, they will confiscate the beverages. Not a big deal.

Good advice! The money savings board will give you some other good ideas.

With that said beer is the cheapest (adult) beverage to purchase on board.

But thanks for letting us know that DCL lets you take it on board…I’ve always wanted to try them ;)

DCL caters mainly to families, and "families" aren't as likely to be looking for a booze cruise (I believe DCL has no casinos either, but am I right or wrong on that?).

RCCL caters to families, but not to the same extent. Many RCCL (and certainly Carnival) cruises have large numbers of young adults who would be more prone to partying, and RCCL, after things like George Smith, are certainly trying to protect their bottom line, but also trying to protect themselves from future lawsuits.

In the past you could pretty easily bring bottles on board in your luggage. Because of the problems they've had its much harder (but not impossible) today.

Yes, you can get away with a moderate amount. The key is not to try to over-do it.

You'll almost certainly buy onboard too, so here's another tip: The least expensive beer onboard is sold in Johnny Rockets. It's all tap and the selection isn't great, but it's a slightly larger cup for less money. No need to pay a cover charge; just walk in and get it to go.

Based on your first two words, I think you already knew the answer. I personally would try plastic bottles or work with 12-pack soda boxes. You could also strap on a mini-keg? :D

For what DCL charges for the cruise, why should they care how much alcohol you bring. They already have the $$$.

That's one of the silliest statements I've read on these boards. What basis is there for that comment?

I know exactly what the person means. Disney's prices are much higher than most other "mainstream" cruise lines; thus, they don't NEED to sell as much alcohol to make a profit.

I've heard people say, "We're going on Disney because we don't want to be nickle and dimed. Disney includes sodas, and they let you bring your own alcohol." Anyone who's paid any attention, of course, knows that if that's your ONLY reason for going with Disney, this is penny-wise and pound-foolish. You could buy an awful lot of alcohol for the price difference between Disney and Royal.

Don't get me wrong -- I've sailed Disney, and they're wonderful, but I can't justify the cost. Not when I could almost take two Royal cruises for the cost of one Disney cruise.

In your stomach almost always works.

Maybe I just don't understand the world today but does anybody else think that it's strange that Disney, the most kid oriented cruiseline, has perhaps the most lenient alcohol policy of any cruise line.

One of the many things I just don't get...

If you were stuck on a ship with 1/2 of it reminiscent of a day care center, loaded with screaming kiddos and no casino, you'd need as much booze as possible. :D

I know you can't bring alcohol or beer on board, but I thought I heard somewhere that you can bring a limited number of bottles of wine on board. Am I mistaken? I probably am considering I have never been on a cruise before lol

Other lines you can take wine, but not on Royal Caribbean.

LOL, the OP was talking about bringing BEER onboard. For some reason, I don't think RumRunners will work so well with beer

Umm... there wasn't a mention of Rum Runners on this thread? Blonde moment?

We bought a 12 pack of Yuengling in Miami because they don't offer it anywhere onboard, and it's my preferred beer. Simply put it in our suitcases, 6 in each. I knew I was still going to buy frozen drinks onboard and figured that if they took the beer, oh well! Not much money lost at all. If they HAD Yuengling, or Fat Tire, or other beers I prefer, I wouldn't have brought my own.

Nothing happened. The beers arrived at our room with no trouble at all. We only drank 7 and left the other 5 for our stateroom attendant to have if he wanted them. And for the threadcrappers, I spent more onboard this trip than I have in about 5 years. I say take it! Just be prepared for it to possibly get taken!
