Just a question. DW and I had cruised on the Explorer lately. We used the ATM. Everytime we tried to use the machine for $400.00 we were told insf. funds. We then tried $200.00 which we did twice at a $8.00 service charge per use. Has any body else been gouged like that. Thanks

That happened to us a lot in Europe, but in larger amounts (not on the ship, in the ports). I think it was usually around 300eu max per withdrawal.

I know the ATMs at my bank only allow $200-$300 withdrawl per transaction, so it's not just a RCI thing :(

It's probably a limit somewhere along the line ... perhaps your bank ... to make sure someone can't drain your cash all in one day.

For us, it is cheaper to get cash from the casino at 3% than the charges for ATM. Unless you are using a Bank of America card here in the US.

I've been to ATMs here in Washington nightclubs that do that. They won't let you take out more than $200 at a time. I have never used an RCI ATM, $8.00 seems like a lot. I can't remember what bank services it, but that is a big fee.

It's a 2-part situation. You have a limit, set by your bank for daily ATM withdraws. Call your bank to find out what this is, and if they will change it. But, regardless of your personal limits, each ATM machine is also set with a limit that overrides your personal limit.

 

Or, you can charge money in the casino (with a 3% fee....I think) that will go on whatever credit card you are using for your SeaPass account. If ATM fees are really bad, this might be the way to go. Not sure what their daily limits are ??

Of course, there is one other solution, and that's to bring cash with you!

Heck.. I get charged $3.00 for any ATM on land for taking out money. So on a ship it doesn't surprise me at all.

Consider that $16 "Tuition" and learn from it. We always take cash and traveler's checks - - NO FEES. ;)

Never have, think atm's have been on CS's for around 15 years now(with fees). You pay to play. Most ports now have atm's.

 

We always carry TC's, cashed for free at the pursers desk.

I've seen $5 on land, so no, I don't consider it gouging. Captive audience, enough said. ;)

Guest services will cash checks. There are limits which off hand I don't recall. They will also cash traveler's checks. They don't charge a fee for either sevice.

That's why we just bring the cash...it's easier and cheaper! If we don't spend it all, we re-deposit it when we get home...easy! The ship will only cash a personal check for $200....
