mistyinca Posted March 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2010 The other thread about immodium prompted this one. I remember before we took our first Splendor cruise last year that it is not a good idea to visit the infirmary because you can be quarantined. So since then I have packed a pharmacy bag. I thought this would be a good place to share ideas some of us may not have thought of. In my bag: Immodium tablets Pepto bismol tablets (take up less room than liquid) rolaids long acting acid prevention (like zantac or something) tylenol ginger capsules non-drowsy dramamine Robitussin DM gelcaps (cough suppressant) Mucinex caplets various antihistimines (claritin, benedryl, zyrtec--all tablet form) neosporin bandaids cortaid prescription pain meds That's all I think of to need. I'd be interested to see if anyone has come up with something that I'm missing.

bafinegan Posted March 2, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Hubby ALWAYS laughs at me, stating we will never need all that stuff. Until son came down with a head cold:rolleyes:. So here goes: tylenol advil vicks vapo rub zyrtec or claritin night cough/cold/decongestion med prescription meds zantac tums bactine(can be used for sunburn OR as an antiinfective) bandaides(assorted sizes) ace wrap pepto I have 2 diff bags, one i pull out and place in bathroom because i think we will use frequently, the other i leave in luggage within easy reach if needed. I also bring a small first aid kit with bandaides ,sm bottle of bactine tums and tylenol on all shore excursions. as a nurse, i like being prepared at all times and have (often) shared my "stash" with other cruisers:) baf
FlaGrl4Evr Posted March 2, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 2, 2010 In addition to the above, I would add, a travel size can of Lysol spray and a travel size of Lysol wipes. Keep them in your purse or carry on (as luggage may arrive later) and the first thing upon entering your cabin, spray the air-vent. As a health care professional I can tell you with all certainty that air vents are often overlooked when cleaning and it is a breeding ground for airborne virus. This is one of the number one areas that the CDC states is notorious for infection. Spray the air vent very well with Lysol spray then wipe off all doorknobs and any other surfaces that you feel necessary with the wipes. I realize that this is not a pharmacy item but it would fall under preventative. Better safe than sorry. In addition, bring some individually wrapped antibacterial hand wipes and sanitizer. jetskier Posted March 2, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 2, 2010 I notice a few of you bring both ginger tabs AND non drowsy Dramamine whose main ingredient is Meclizine . Can you explain why you bring both??? Do you use them together? I take the Meclizine at night which numbs the inner ear making it less prone to movement. Buy it at the pharmacy for $9.95 for a 100ct bottle. You can also look at Amazon.com They have a chewable kind that is flavored. http://www.amazon.com/Meclizine-HCl-25mg-Chewable-Tablets/dp/B001UWNBXK/ref=pd_bxgy_hpc_text_b Ginger Root pills can be bought at Wal-mart in the vitamin section for around $5.95 for 100 ct. I take these in the morning. It relieves any quesiness you might have. It is always best to pre-treat before you get onboard the ship. mistyinca Posted March 2, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted March 2, 2010 hmmm...good idea about the vitamin c. I always come down with a cold within a few days of coming home from a cruise. I like the idea of a preventative. Of course, last time I acquired shingles when I got back:eek:...don't think there's a preventative for that one... crusinpsychRN Posted March 2, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Just off Inspiration. A guy told me the first day he didn't feel so great. He went to infirmary and said he was "queezy". They took his temp, normal, and quaranteened him for 48 hours, 2 days of a 5 day cruise. He was unable to leave cabin or have anything but room service for food. All he wanted was pepto, which I got in the little basket in the BR.

bamaphotopro Posted March 2, 2010 #21 Share Posted March 2, 2010 lmao~ that you admitted it, not that you use it~! ;) LOL! Admission is longer a problem ... for me, it's like admitting I take vitamins. My only problem with the drug is those silly commercials with the TWO bathtubs ... I still haven't figured that one out. Wouldn't it make much more sense for 'the couple' to be in a (lukewarm) hot tub together? :)
