My favorite has to be the guy over on the Disney board - he is so thoughtful. He gives them Walmart gift cards - because you know there's a Walmart Super Center very close to Port Canaveral. Why he believes a Walmart gift card is so much more personal and valued than the equivalent cash? He truly believes it is valued and appreciated more than just giving/receiving cash. Hard to understand some people. As someone else said much earlier in this thread - a tip is to make the receiver feel good, not the giver.

If you give gift cards and think like the above person - go ahead, let me have it - I'm wearing my fire retardant PJs!

Cash is king - it works for everyone and you can rest assured it will be appreciated greatly.

Howard

Most of us really beleive it here (cash is king)..just joking our boredom off; good story Howard.

Ok..this is an old bankers joke...all the waste with recycling money...

Fred can you show me a President, a dairy product, and a movie on this dollar bill...Fred finds President Washington and presumably calls Uncle.

Joker: Of course with Fred's bill, Right you are Fred...Washington's the President, the dairy product is half and half (ripping the bill in 2); and the movie is "Gone with the Wind"..throwing the bill in the air...an oldie but a goodie..sjn:rolleyes:;)

I gotta go to the store..been fun folks...old and new buds good to see you.

Last $2 bill I got the woman in front of me wouldn't accept it because "$2 bills are unlucky."

One cruise I was given a free drink in the casino. I like to tip the servers when I get this perk. One server specifically asked for my flashlight on my lanyard. Not a problem, I always have several dollar store flashlights with me. I've seen several servers using flashlights in the darkened lounges.

I always prepay the tips and then give extra CASH (not collectable coins or odd $2 bills, yes they are different but keep them for back home birthday or holiday gifts. Some ports really do have a problem with exchange for the crew) for service that was great. I have never had in over 20 cruises bad cabin service. Those cabins are magical, they turn into what my room (if that size) could NEVER become, plus a chocolate! Sure you might get a drink that is not up to your own standards or maybe something a bit slower than you'd like it to be from the kitchen but I just remember I am not the only person on ship and go with the flow. IF there is a real issue you can always go to the guest services desk and discuss it with them. I always feel for the people that come home and fuss for weeks on end about a toilet (or whatever) and they NEVER even went to GS to talk about their problem. Wonder why anyone would allow anything to ruin their holiday.

There is no argument on whether two dollar bills are legal tender.

The point is these people cannot spend two dollars bills outside our country because lots of other places do no take them.

So if my steward has the day off and goes to an island, I want my one dollars bills to be able to be used by him/her.

How can some of you not see this issue?

this is how I tip:

When we go to Las Vegas we load up on two dollar bills because you have to tip every where and saves room in the wallet. On cruises we did the same thing till we read on cc that the stewards didn't like them.

If other countries didn't like them the stewards etc. could change them on the ship.

Most people that we give them to really like them because they usually don't see many. A couple weeks ago we went through a toll booth in Orlando and dh handed the girl a two dollar bill and she was thrilled. We just knew she was going to buy that on with her own mone.

Years ago it was not unusual to see the bills a lot, especially if you lived near a military base. I wonder why they are so rare today.

By the way, we get the bills at the bank, the tellers save them for us.
