CruiseShelly Posted September 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2010 When we get off Gem at Great Stirrup Cay, will we need photo ID (passport etc) other than our ship ID card?

luddite Posted September 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2010 It ain't a real big island. Normal population is one, I believe. Makes it easy to spot a 'foreigner'. :D

garycarla Posted September 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 14, 2010 for all practical purposes, you are still on a NCL ship. By the way, even though they always say in the daily paper that you need a photo id and your ship id, 90% of the time the ship ID is just fine. The only time you seem to need it is when the locals want to check ID to let you into the port area. We always carry it anyways, though I would not bother on the private island as there is no local "authorities" to deal with.
crew mom Posted September 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2010 Unless this has changed, if you wish to purchase something from the straw market you will need cash as this is not NCL owned. Room card will do for drinks and rentals tho.

2inTul Posted September 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 14, 2010 The only place we have ever had our passport checked is Nassau. We have had IDs checked at many ports. The most recent that come to mind were Port Canaveral (Yes Port Canaveral, USA) and Nassau. They also checked in Prince Rupert, Cobh, Santo Thomas, and others. They used to check much more than they do now especially right after 9/11. I remember the security on Star in 2002 was real strict and that was all Hawaii & Fanning Island.
