E-Cig onboard

Recommended Posts

Their was a thread on the RCI board titled "Faux cigarettes" . I bought a disposable trial kit. {after reading the thread}. I'm going to buy a better brand now . There is a website all about vaporing. If I could at least cut down or better quit, it is a win win.

I did not realize there was an additional benefit of stepping down and perhaps quitting...thanks for the info!!! That is an even better win win for the smoker!!!

I have not even seen one yet,:o but I have read they don't produce any smoke or smell.

If that is the case, why would they have to go to the smoking areas?

Because people freak out at the mere thought that someone is smoking! Happened to my friend in a California restaurant. A lady at one of the tables close by didn't understand what it was and freaked out complaining to the Manager. The Manager understood he wasn't smoking a cigarette when my friend showed him it was the e-cig. The Manager then came back to him after he spoke with the woman and asked him not to do it. The Manager explained he couldn't convince her that he wasn't actually smoking a cigarette and she was all worked up.

This is a perfect example of a person getting all bent out of shape even though they were not being affected by smoke or smell. They don't produce any smoke or odor just a harmless vapor. She was an anti-smoker and that was that! Just the sight of it got her going!

It has been 6 weeks, 4 days, 20 hours and 26 mins since I have lit up a real cigarette. Initially I started at a 24mg level of nicotine and am currently at 16-18mg. This has been the first time in 20 years that I have gone with out a real cigarette. Eventually I will be at zero nicotine. The biggest draw back to the ecig is i'm no longer taking breaks at work since I just vap in the office.

I'm curious of your opinions..I'm totally pro-smoking where allowed, but from what I've read, there is an amount of nicotine that is exhaled and emitted from the cig itself. There's been no actual studies on the amount. (real studies, not a sales website just saying something)

I certainly agree they are better than a regular cigarette, including for the user, but nicotine is still the harmful substance.

If you were standing next to, say, a pregnant person, or an elderly person on oxygen and they were informed about what it was, but were concerned about second hand nicotine vapor, would you put it away, or continue using it?

A second question, for those that do use it, do you think your total usage (number of times you smoke a day) decreased after using it? I have a relative that has tried to quite numerous times and I think they would be interested.

Hey my husband vapes. That's his ultracool term . He says, and he has read every article available, that it's water vapor. That being said, he doesn't do it near a baby or towards our 3 year old or someone old, etc. My mother and sister and I have asthma and we are never bothered. He uses all different flavors, so sometimes I am annoyed by the sicky sweet candy or cake smell, but it is nothing like smoke and disappears in seconds. His total nicotine usage is going down.

Also, nicotine is as harmful as caffeine. Caffeine is as harmful as nicotine. Both are addictive stimulants. Take it as that. Neither is good for heart conditions, asthma, blood pressure, etc.

I thought about the 510 but in the end i went with the KR808D-1. The reason I chose it was the ease of use and it's affordability. It's a two piece unit consisting of a battery and cartomizer. I have about a dozen or so different flavors that I refill my cartomizers with. So far my favorite flavor is Fire & Ice it's a cinnamon and artic menthol combo :D . For less than $50 you can get your feet wet with this unit. I'd post links but i'm not sure about the rules regarding that.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I know my cousin has a nicotine allergy..not tobacco smoke, but nicotine, so while she's not a guest on my current planned cruise, I'd hate to bring her and have an issue. (she normally only reacts if it's in the room)

I personally have had congestive heart failure (more an issue with the lungs than the heart). Everyday toxins and smells don't harm me, but if I can avoid any possible trigger, I will.

I guess here is my issue...every article that says that it is only water vapor, is only on forums and websites that sell the c-cig or are owned by those that sell the e-cig. I've just read a study on the amount of nicotine exhaled from a normal cigarette, and it's 50% or more.

I had to ask a friend because I was so curious..I'm not a major science buff myself. It was explained to me this way...a lit cigarette is a vessel. It delivers nicotine by burning tobacco (and other chemicals if you roll your own), transforming it into a gas which can be inhaled. The lungs can only retain so much of that smoke and nicotine, and will exhale a percentage.

An e-cig is a vessel, which delivers nicotine via a liquid cartridge with contains nicotine and other chemicals, which is vaporized into a gas which can be inhaled. The lungs are still the same design, so previous studies on exhaled nicotine should hold true.

I personally think it's a great advance for smokers...scent free, etc. But it irks me that the companies selling it are spreading such false information. I'd hate to be a person who vapes around my children because I was told it was harmless.

maabell, it's funny you brought up caffeine. There's currently a man on trial who is accused of strangling his wife, and caffeine poisoning is his defense. I was really surprised to hear on the news while they were discussing this case, that three six-ounce cups of coffee would be considered an overdose on caffeine.

I'm glad to finally be caff. free...I started drinking a lot of coffee, tea, and soda when my doctor told me it would be a more "natural" treatment for bad migraines. But than anytime I wasn't drinking caffeine within an hour of waking, I'd get the sweats, and horrible headaches. That one week of coming off caffeine convince me it was a drug!

A drug my husband happily abuses though. ;)

I have a soda or hot tea from time to time, maybe 1 or 2 a week. I really do try and stay from it too, if it's naturally occuring in coffee or tea, I do better. Sodas- I know I will pay with a headache or weird feeling.

BTW...Katherine Heigle (SP) is on Dave Letterman tonight and was vaping.

Also-I tell my husband to limit the Ecig around our son, because I feel like you never really know. I don't care what he reads or is told, info changes. It's still better than when he used to smoke a pack a day and our son would hug him and inhale that poison from his clothes.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories. My husband has been vaping for about a month now and has not picked up a cigarette during this whole time. He has stepped down from 36mg of nicotine to 18mg and occasionally uses 0 nicotine just for the flavor. It's been a great tool for him and he's excited about it. It's a good thing. :)

I don't see what caffiene has to do with this?

Nor do I consider it my business or responsibility to worry about the health of fellow cruisers

I will admit...my own reasoning about disliking smoking doesn't even have much to do with "health">> I personally don't care if others are addicted to nicotine

I just HATE the nasty smell and stench of smoke and smokers...yuck

I don't care if people addicted to nicotine (a drug) get their fix from a patch or gum or a "vape" ecig....I don't care if they satisfy their oral fixation with gum, a pacifier or whatever...I don't care if they indulge their "busy hand" habit with crocheting or squeezing a rubber ball....none of that bothers or affects me

but..when they are all they puffing on real cigarettes it smells...the smoke makes my (blue, contacts) eyes water....living in a state with strict regulations and no indoor smoking I am just NOT used to it

I hate the smell...the smoke...I hate the look and stench of the ugly butts in filled up ashtrays....I hate the smoky air and the way it clings to my clothes, hair....I feel dirty from it...I hate the haze and smoke in the piano bar....I hate smoking period

It grosses me out

So if people addicted to nicotine want to suck pacifiers or play with worry beads , wear a patch or puff vapor to satisfy their addiction that is ok with me...I am only concerned about the fact that smoke inside is so weird and annoying and keeps me from enjoying some places like piano bar, casino,

and even the disco

I also really dislike dodging lit cigarettes....a couple of years ago my friends dress was burnt by a jerk on the dance floor with a lit cig...gross

and yeah...I worry about fires....the ecigs would solve that problem also

Carnival should sell them on board, make more money..give "seminars" like they do their "detox" seminars :)

Right now there are still alot of unanswered questions and the FDA is presently making itself known and causing grief. Many suppliers are laying low waiting to see what the FDA says on whether it is going to be legal or illegal.

Sure, Nicotine is bad. but when you look at a cigarette with it's over 4000 bad things or the ecig with nicotine and minus the 3999 other bad things, which is the lessor evil.

I guess I will take the ecig. I enjoyed the act of smoking, I never did like the smell of smoke or the mess it makes. So this makes it easier.

As for vaping around others, I intend to use some Common Sense, but I do not plan to back down from the alarmist who has a hissy fit cuz they think they see smoke.

But sharecruises, I did not get your post other than its all about you.

So what, you don't care about other people period.

:)

So put on your big girl pants if you're willing to venture outside of your nanny state to cruise on a foreign ship that allows smoking. Sheesh, this isn't even a smoking thread and we're bombarded yet again by your soapbox. News flash - many of us don't care about you either. You know by now where the smoking and non-smoking areas are on the ship so navigate accordingly.

It's the control thing the FDA wants as nicotine "dispensers" have been around for years through prescription. IMHO, the nicotine is not that bad, it's the other "stuff" that is included in the cigarettes I smoke. It's a stimulant and addictive but not even close to the other hazards I expose myself to.

I may have to try a E-cig and see. My fear is that I enjoy smoking and am not sure it's a feasible replacement in my case.

I felt the exact same way you do. I just set myself a time to begin it. I even have a sealed pack of Salem's and gave them to wifey to hang on to for me. (she's a nonsmoker and probably tossed em)

But I have not had the urge to have a real cigarette. I just vape away when the pang hits.

Many enjoy both, but just not at the same time.

There are kits out there for as low as $11, but remember, you get what you pay for and there are scams that will take your hard earned money and will rope you into monthly deals.

Do not do the free sample deals either, they are a scam

we all make our choices..

For those interested in obtaining information on e-cigarettes

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

Thanks for posting that link, goldwinger! I didn't know much about on this topic until I went to that site and hung out for a few hours. Loved those videos by MistressNomad and have much reading I'd like to do.

Thanks again!

I picked up an eGo, but am having trouble getting past the primer even after I followed directions and blew out the attys.

I keep going back to the original Smokesation I got while on the Fantasy

Sometimes you just need to burn it off. I had one atty on my 4081 which tasted like incinerated Chinese food for a good month.

And some airlines look at that little card and laugh and tell you to put it away.

The point being that PVs and e-cigs are still really new and people need to show a little bit of patience with the unitiated. In the end, CCL makes the rules and CCL can confine you to the smoking sections if they choose.

Which airline?

It's funny, I was considering posting here after a rather nasty discussion dissolved on the celebrity board about e-cigs.

I never smoke around non smokers if I can help it. (I can't help it when they sit in the smoking sections, or walk by me on the smoking side of the ship) but if I was using a vapor cig. I would continue to use it. They can move as well as me. It's doesn't harm them in the least. It wouldn't be as bad as just breathing in a big city.
