SugarLover Posted October 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2010 I have tried to research this, but what I found is spotty. I know there are 'shows' some of the nights, and there's ALWAYS a bar to go to, but from everything I have read, they say things are much quieter on Celebrity (which is fine with me! -- that's why we booked here). I just wondered what else there is? I have read about 'enrichment' programs, but it sounded like these were daytime events on sea days...? I ask only because I am trying to get a handle on when I should request dinner reservations. My only other experience is on Carnival, which was non-stop in-your-face action :(. There, we ended up preferring to eat earlier, so we could check out some of the activities, but generally I like to take things easy in the late afternoon (not worry about having to get in the shower by 5 to make a 6pm rez), and eat later. (Actually, here at home, I consider dinner at a fabulous 4star restaurant as entertainment.) We are booked AQ, and I am looking forward to relaxing with cocktails, or sunset on the balcony, etc -- so i just wondered if there would be anything we might miss if we took our time and didn't eat until 8. thanks in advance! emms Posted October 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2010 We were on Eclipse in August and had early seating, this worked well for us , We had dinner at about 6.45 , the children "abandoned" us to meet their friends in the teen area and to have their dessert in the oceanview ice cream area. We finished our meal in peace, then went to the theatre for the show, after that had a night cap in one of the bars, we had peace and quiet , the children had fun what a fabulous holiday. There is live music in most bars I think each night, there is also a night club (the teen club had a disco in there a couple of times) but thats not my scene. It did make us chuckle over breakfast in the Solarium ( the children were still asleep ) to hear 2 elderly couples complaining between themselves how there wasnt enough organized for the older people ,it was all over after the shows.... but the teen club went on until 1 am. We had a lovely, lazy holiday which is what we wanted if thats what you are after I think you will have a great time. Emma
Gonzo70 Posted October 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2010 In addition to shows there is often a move shown after dinner, sometimes a comedian, if you are on S-Class there is sometimes a late night Glass Blowing demonstration, the casino is open late, there occasionally is a late night pool party of themed party in a lounge, the martini bar tends to be popular, some people enjoy sitting outside at the Lawn Club and chatting, star gazing, and/or having a drink, on some sailings the night club is busy - others it is rather dead. The enrichment program you mentioned is indeed far more likely to involve day time lectures.

Celebrity pretty much caters to the 50 plus crowd. After dinner there is a show or perhaps a move to attend. Of course, you can always hit one of the bars for a cocktail. There may be other things but you have not booked on a cruise line that caters to the young. We always take late seating at dinner so it is never a problem for us. :)

boogs Posted October 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I have never been bored in the evening on any Celebrity cruise. There is plenty to do - most evenings we had to chose between several activities that were available. It was our choice if we wanted to do something or not. AlanAllyn Posted October 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2010 In addition to the shows and movies, there is a piano player/singer in Michael's club after 9, as well as a variety of other performers around the ship.

lcmslady Posted October 14, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I think the other thing you have to take into consideration is the itinerary. for example - my other cruises on Celebrity, we have been in port until 5 or 5:30. Since I like to be on deck (with an adult beverage) for sail-away, early seating for dinner wasn't really practical. Late seating - by the time you get up from dinner, it's after 10:00. A quick stroll around the ship, an after-dinner drink or going to the nightly party (there's usually one of some kind) and I'm ready for bed!! As everyone else has already said, there isn't lots of frenetic activity on Celebrity but that's what I love about this cruise line!

cynbar Posted October 14, 2010 #17 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Our last Celebrity cruise was a few years back on Infinity, but we are booked on Eclipse for January. Does Celebrity still do the Late Bites, where waiters circulate late in the evening with hot and cold snacks on trays? I haven't seen it mentioned on these boards, so I'm thinking it may have been discontinued. If so, what is available for a late evening snack? true45 Posted October 14, 2010 #19 Share Posted October 14, 2010 To OP - what is it you like to do? What we like best about cruising is that there is so much to choose from. We like music -- there is usually (besides "the Big show in the theater) a lounge with rock, a lounge with jazz (on the Century there was a great jazz band from Eastern Europe), coffee cafe with strings, sometimes Latin band, sometimes dancing, dance lessons, of course the disco upstairs later. There is usually a movie or 2 -- and other things going on. Strolling the deck after dinner is wonderful -- the shops, casino, or a movie in the cabin. Comedy seems to be late but if you are a night person?? We like the choice of doing something or doing nothing all without any planning. Have fun. Rare Lois R Posted October 14, 2010 #20 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Is there karaoke? (Corny, I know). Yes, there is....every cruise I have been on there was Karaoke. At least 1 night and possibly 2. I remember back in 2006 I was on Zenith and one of the pax sang a A Sinatra tune and the guy could really sing:).....he pulled a surpsrise at the end of the song and proposed to his girlfriend....she said yes:)
Marelaine Posted October 14, 2010 #21 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Is there karaoke? (Corny, I know). YES! We went up to the Sky Lounge after the evening show in the Solstice Theater to listen to the a capella group. At the end of their set, they announced the "Farewell Karaoke Party" would start. My husband couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Drat! Otherwise, there were plenty of shows, theme parties and musical groups throughout the ship until late at night. It's fun to just wander around and check out the various lounges to see what's going on. Or you can check the dailies that are delivered to your room each evening. Chicago Boy Posted October 15, 2010 #24 Share Posted October 15, 2010 We catch the show, go to the move if they are showing one, go to the lounge for a night cap or listen to a chamber group. Of course, you can always go to the club and dance. Then again there is always a good book to be read in your cabin. We always find enough to keep us busy.:)
