I think this poll is too broad. The "No" can be answered by both anti-smokers and smokers alike. By anti-smokers for obvious reasons and by smokers (and non-smokers who travel with smokers) because it is becoming too restrictive. So, I wonder how many of the "No's" should be "Yes's"!

Carnival is more than fair - smokers are a minority.

exactly!!! That is why there should be a designated block of cabins for smokers only...like aft..starboard...maybe that quadrant of the ship..balconies..OV's and insides....held aside for that minority that smoke.....

however, for the large majority that do not smoke..the rest of the cabins must be designated non smoking...with a fee if caught smoking..like many hotels impose.

Also, just like on land...all restaurants and lounges and bars must be not smoking.

A part of the the Lido..in the aft could be for smoking...and I am even in favor of all new ships actually having an aft pool just for smokers...a hot tub too...and plenty of lounge chairs.

What amazes me is that everyone who smokes and cruises lives on land..right...so they know the rules on land regarding smoking.....and abide by them...including workplace rules....remember the ship is the crew's workplace...and YES I KNOW...that the ship is international and not a US workplace...but the pax are from places that have smoking restrictions in place...so now here is the real clincher......

Would it be so difficult for CCL or any cruiseline to maybe put those same smoking regulations in place? They are able to enforce the rules and regulations of society...well most of the time anyway.....why not smoking rregulations?

Please do not respond with it is their ship and they don't have to comply.......my question is why is it so complicated for them to have a smoking policy that is fair...compatible to the ones the pax are used to on land....and most importantly...follows suit that is the majority don't smoke...just why not have a regulation in place? A fair one...not like what they have in place now...because I am entitled to a smokefree environment...in the piano bar...the discos...all of them...and yes the casino if I choose to go there....however, designating part of the casino smoke free won't work....there needs to be walls and separation.

somokers are entitled to smoke...but I am also entitled to go into a bar..lounge...bar..whatever that is smokefree.

I completely agree. Very well said.

Smokers should only be allowed to smoke outside on one side of the deck. There should be NO smoking anywhere inside the ship

This would be a great idea. I have bad allergies and wasn't able to go into some of the clubs at night b/c the smoke was so heavy. I also could only go to the casino in the morning or afternoon again b/c of all the smoke

I am a smoker and I don't believe they should allow smoking inside the ship at all. Where I live there is no smoking in restaurants, bars nor casinos. I don't smoke in my home, so why would I smoke in my cabin. I think they should still allow smoking on one side of the ship (outside) and enforce it. I know if I am sitting somewhere and I want a cigarette, I get up and walk over to the ash tray by the railings.

It's just common courtesy!

By "Spot on" do you mean perfect? Of course they are not. I believe the main thing that Carnival needs to work on is their ventilation systems. Marginal to non-existent in most of the inside spaces. I believe that smokers have as much right as anyone to commit suicide in the method that works best for them. But they do not have the right to take me with them. Therefore I choose to spend very little time in the venues that allow smoking.

If they stop the smoking in the rooms and on the balconies they will lose mega customers, it will never happen. I don't smoke, over 9 years without the very addicting drug nicotine. I think Carnival's policy is fair but if I was still smoking I would still be caught in that addiction and think it not fair.......

No such thing as being 'spot on' in this argument - someone is always going to be upset.

There are too many people with entitlement issues on both sides of the argument. I believe that both the 'I'm entitled to have a 100% non smoking environment' and the 'I'm entitled to smoke anytime, anywhere' people are in the wrong.

Jump off your high horses for a bit and call a truce - compromise is king.

I will admitt it that most smokers are too dang inconsiderate. They dont care where their smoke lingers to or who they blow their cloud on, and for that reason there I believe is the reason smokers are being banned from everywhere. Here in Mississippi smoking is still allowed in bars and resturants but I dont expect it to last. Because on the oppisite side of this coin is the NONsmokers who tend to get too darned picky themselves. A ship can make ANY place on board a designated smoking area, but then 1 or 2 nonsmokers would wonder over because they want to enjoy said area and what do ya know?! They complain about smoke in a SMOKING area. I have seen this happen at work (casino employee). This debate canget real rediculous on both sides of the fence.

Now with all that said, you guys can probably tell that I too am a smoker, and yes I try to be very considerate when i smoke in public. When outside I consider the direction of the wind before I light up as to not offend some over sensitive non smoker. I truly believe that if every smoker was more thoughfull then smoking would not be banned all over the nation.

We were on the Freedom a couple of weeks ago and one of the first things I noticed was the smoking smell. My BBF (her first cruise; who is a smoker)was with me and said my mom could never come on a cruise, the smoke smell is terrible. And we hadn't even hit the Lido deck yet :(. Personally I would spend more time in the disco and casino if the smoking wasn't so bad.

As a former smoker, we are probably the worst critics when it comes to smoking. I can't believe I use to smell like that. GROSS!!

I'm a smoker and I think....

Cabins - NO

Balcony - YES

Only one side of the ship outside, but enforce it.

Casino - Only a small section that can maybe be ventilated differently.

Other bars/restaurants/etc - NO except maybe 1 of the bars that is not small and is ventilated differently..

Preposterous, only a non smoker would believe this to be true.

I am not a smoker...I am just going by what my smoker friends who cruise Carnival tell me.

They are thrilled with it!!!

They said it takes about a week or so ..to get adjusted to the E Cig....and are now "vaping" at home ...in addition to the ship...since it runs about $2 a pack...(much cheaper than analog ~tobacco~ cigarettes)

They even have Cigars!!

Katherine Heigl was on David Letterman about 2 weeks ago promoting it ....she ROCKS!!!

I have pushed for proper ventilation for years. (obvious I have no pull because nothing has changed)

Instead of building bigger cruise ships....I voted that cruise lines (not just Carnival) should build SMARTER cruise ships.

If a Walmart can have a Nail Salon inside the store at their front door (with their doors open to Walmart) and not a hint of odor as you enter....then the technology is definately out there. I understand they were required to install a MONSTER system to handle the smell of the sculputered nails....
