sharecruises Posted October 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2010 Most bars and lounges don't allow it where I live Less smoking....make piano bar and disco non smoking they should allow the e-cigs I really have worries about oxygen tanks on board too...too bad for the people who use them but if they are still smoking it could be a disaster
maj288 Posted October 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 20, 2010 Smokers should only be allowed to smoke outside on one side of the deck. There should be NO smoking anywhere inside the ship

mariamherrera Posted October 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 20, 2010 I'll start by saying that I think carnival does a great job of cleaning out the smoke smell in the rooms because i never smelled any smoke in my room- however the casino was unbearable- which is OK because i'm not a gambler really but I did have to literally hold my breath and run through it to get to the other side so I could go to the auditorium... I wish the smoking could be limited to certain cabins like hotel rooms smoking and non smoking rooms. And a spot outside of course where they could smoke. I also hated when I would be outside lounging on the deck and some one would light up right next next too me I'm not the type to grumble and complain so I just get up and move- But it would be nice if there was on a particular area on the deck that way I could just avoid it I also would catch wind of it every now and then when I would be relaxing on my balcony as well- I'm guessing one of my neighbors was smoking on their balcony which they have a right to do-again I would just go inside and wait till they were done and go back out. Smokers have a right to smoke but non smokers have a right to not smell it/ breath it in and have to deal with the affects of it (itchy eyes and throats, coughing, etc) I think it would be a win win situation if carnival just made one side of the ship for smokers and the other side not- I'm sure smokers get sick of hearing us non smokers complaining and I'm sure us non smokers are sick of smelling the smoke.. What it all boils down to is most people just aren't considerate of others i n general anymore- they only care about themselves, have no consideration for their fellow humans, neighbors and mankind. As non smokers we need to respect the right of those who smoke to do so,and not grumble and complain about it, in return it would be awesome i smokers could be considerate of others around them, example think about the people who will come in after them to use that cabin, trying to smoke in well ventilated areas, not lighting up around children ( this is one thing that bothers me ALOT) and not blowing smoke in other peoples direction i have met a lot of VERY courteous smokers and I appreciate them sooo much! they always make sure they blow the smoke away from my direction, make sure there are no kids around, and somehow they manage to never smell like smoke (their clothes, their hair their breath) :) then there are those who lock them selfs up in their rooms and chain smoke- their hair and clothes REEK like ashtrays their breath is unbearable they will blow smoke right in your face light up around pregnant women and children.. I don't have respect for these types of smokers. If we could all follow the golden rule do onto other as you'd like done unto you and to "love your neighbor as yourself" we could all have a win win situation. I try to be considerate of others by never wearing too much perfume, by making sure i have good hygiene, by never getting drunk and sloppy, I make sure if I'm sick I stay away from others so they don't catch my germs, etc. I do this because thats the kind of person I want to be it's just good manners and its having consideration for others and having enough respect for myself to do so as well
Sargent_Schultz Posted October 20, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2010 There is no right to smoke - it is a privilege that can be revoked or modified for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice.

dbhudgins Posted October 20, 2010 #10 Share Posted October 20, 2010 We just returned from a 7 day western aboard the Dream and I must say that often I encountered smokers. Seemed more than usual but we tried to exit the area when someone lit up. I am not a fan of smoking and find the smell particularly annoying, especially in the hallways as you move from place to place on the ship. BUT, having said all that, I realize that those who are addicted to their weeds need to get a fix - hope they can allow those to do so in some very specific areas of the ship, posted and specifically marked and then enforce the rules. Also, have some cabins that are specifically NON smoking so that those of us with smoke allergies can select rooms with NO smoke residue. Just my opinion, though. Fourseventeen Posted October 20, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 20, 2010 Smokers should only be allowed to smoke outside on one side of the deck. There should be NO smoking anywhere inside the ship I agree! and unfortunately how it is now with smokers being allowed to smoke on the port side of lido deck they dont seem to enforce...I go to starboard side and smokers are there too! Im glad they dont allow cigars in the casino. I enjoy spending time at the casino and the cig smoke there is bad enough...if they also allowed cigars I dont think I would ever use the casino on the ship. MrPete Posted October 20, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 20, 2010 It's not a 50/50 split. There are less areas to smoke than not. Everyone has the freedom to choose which section they wish to be. If there's a place that allows smoking and has an activity I choose to participate in, I make the choice.
mavis2222 Posted October 20, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 20, 2010 There should be solid enforcement of the port and starbord smoking rule and it goes for the whole ship, including cabins, balconys and bars or clubs on that side of ship as well. salty dingo Posted October 20, 2010 #17 Share Posted October 20, 2010 Again, the poll questions stink. There should be specific choices. For example: ban smokoing in the cabin and charge a steep cleaning fee if they violate it. Also, a good choice would be to ban smoking in the casino, but that will never happen because a large percentage of casino losers are smokers. GottaLuvCruising Posted October 20, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 20, 2010 The spa-category smoke-free staterooms and especially balconies are an awesome option...but most ships don't have them. Roll out something like that or, better yet, make one side of the ship (staterooms and balconies) smoke-free. The policy is not adequate, but I do think they are trying. adriennerm Posted October 20, 2010 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2010 In my opinion the clubs should be smoke free. The rooms are too small and the smoke is so thick you can cut it with a knife. I wanted to stay and enjoy the music, but it was unbearable. When we returned to the cabin, my clothes smelled horrible. I had to wash them the next day. There was no way I could pack them smelling like that. I don't mind smoking in the casino nor to I mind the smoking areas outside. However in small enclosed rooms, it shouldn't be allowed. I encountered several people dancing on the lido deck b/c the club was too smoky.

ChefSusan Posted October 20, 2010 #24 Share Posted October 20, 2010 I would like to see there be a NO SMOKING rule in cabins/balconies (they don't allow candles/open flames in cabins, why not follow through on the thought and ban smoking there as well), make a larger portion of the casino smoke-free, and make the piano bar smoke free as well. LHP Posted October 20, 2010 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2010 I really think when "vaping" takes off.... this will be a non-issue. E Cigs are the solution .... They should be allowed ANYWHERE and IMHO required for any INDOOR smoking. I think Carnival should sell the dispensers and cartridges at the bars...at less than smokers can get them in the US.... Carnival would still make money, smokers would save money and nonsmokers would be thrilled. win/win/win The ONLY downside is that this solution would mean we on Cruise Critic would have one less thing to "talk" about...never mind...that isn't a downside either... ;)
