Whats with the minority majority bull... if you want a friendly almost smoke free cruise ship... cruise on the Splendor .. or the Dream.. there are your virtually smoke free ships... I know this smoker will never sail on the Splendor again or even try the Dream...

I have pushed for proper ventilation for years. (obvious I have no pull because nothing has changed)

Instead of building bigger cruise ships....I voted that cruise lines (not just Carnival) should build SMARTER cruise ships.

If a Walmart can have a Nail Salon inside the store at their front door (with their doors open to Walmart) and not a hint of odor as you enter....then the technology is definately out there. I understand they were required to install a MONSTER system to handle the smell of the sculputered nails....

Carnival hasn't even figured how to get rid of the smell of poo on their new ships.

I really think when "vaping" takes off....

this will be a non-issue.

E Cigs are the solution ....

They should be allowed ANYWHERE and IMHO required for any INDOOR smoking.

I think Carnival should sell the dispensers and cartridges at the bars...at less than smokers can get them in the US....

Carnival would still make money, smokers would save money and nonsmokers would be thrilled.

win/win/win

The ONLY downside is that this solution would mean we on Cruise Critic would have one less thing to "talk" about...never mind...that isn't a downside either... ;)

You're absolutely right, Linda.

Those that would pooh-pooh "vaping" are only interested in keeping the smoking issue active. My only concern is, once the e-cig really catches on, the government, realizing the incredible revenue they're losing, will either clobber the e-cig on some trumped-up health issue or tax it out of existence.

This from someone who's only remaining "vice" is an incredible addiction to nicotine. :(

Amen,, I simply just dont go in the bars that allowed smoking. I had a hard time walking by them much less going into themm... Smoke smell was awlful.

They lose a lot of money on us...because we would drink more and even visit the casino...if we could breathe in those venues.

I would be in the Piano Bar all night.

Oh well, CCL's loss is our gain in that respect.

Celebrity has banned smoking in their casino's and in their cabins AND balcony's - a trendsetter maybe?

I hope so...because we are now looking to book a Med cruise for 2012 and I like what I see as far as itin for 2011...just hoping they have as good an itin for 2012

and why is this? I would never spend on some Spa cabin...so are you saying that the casino and bars are smoke free and around the pool the smoking is at a minimum? Or were you just lucky to get a good smoke free bunch of cruisers on your cruise?

Please explain the differences on those ships versus the CCL fleet and the CCL policies.

If those to ships are instituting some sort of new program I for one would like to know about it.

Or is this just your opinion of the cruises you took on them?

It is not my opinion . I sailed the Splendor in April of this year and was allowed to smoke in the piano bar at the piano bar it self and deck 10 aft ...only no smoking on the lido..... no smoking at the casino bar or the disco .. I guess you could smoke in the casino but I do not gamble so I can't comment never went there.. but as per another thread they have made the piano bar non smoking .. I dunno if it is just around the piano area or not.. ;)As for the Dream from what I have read same but since I have not sailed her I will not comment on the actual areas that are or are not.. someone who has cruised her will sure to be able to tell you...

Okay, so if i vote "no" does that mean i think it is too restrictive or not restrictive enough. I would have liked to see additional options on the poll to more clearly explain a yes or no vote. I do appreciate the poll though.

When I was on the SPLENDOR (Sept09) smoking at the huge piano in the piano bar was NOT ALLOWED, but smoking away from the piano at the tables was allowed. This is where all the crew members congregated also.:)

Most bars and lounges don't allow it where I live

Less smoking....make piano bar and disco non smoking

they should allow the e-cigs

I really have worries about oxygen tanks on board too...too bad for the people who use them but if they are still smoking it could be a disaster

Agree!

I am a smoker and I don't believe they should allow smoking inside the ship at all. Where I live there is no smoking in restaurants, bars nor casinos. I don't smoke in my home, so why would I smoke in my cabin. I think they should still allow smoking on one side of the ship (outside) and enforce it. I know if I am sitting somewhere and I want a cigarette, I get up and walk over to the ash tray by the railings.

It's just common courtesy!

THANK YOU! If there was more smokers like you it wouldn't be an issue! Smokers don't bother me. it's the rude smokers that do

LOL of course you have every cruise.. maybe some are nicer than others:)

Well in April 2010 you could smoke around the piano.. but now again it seems you can't.. prolly depends on the player at the time:confused:

Nobody has the "right" to adversely affect the health of others. Smokers have the same "right". They shouldn't be subjected to smoke that isn't there's. :)

Yes I have a right!! a right is given to you if it is legal.. and until it is not legal I will have that right.. whether they take it away for other reasons.. has nothing to do with my right as a human being to smoke...If Carnival wants to limit me to smoking areas so beit but don't yap to me about my rights... :(
