OK - i guess I need to do my homework before making mad assumptions. Me bad....sorry.

From one of John Heald's blogs I found this: "There is no Cigar Bar…….OK…….that of course had me a little upset but ……..I can go out on Deck 5 and have a cigar if I want to on the port side of the Ocean Plaza."

I think you're on the same page as us. I have to submit my vacation request NOW for June....so having my much earned vacation cancelled 5 days prior and not being able to find anything else to substitute has been disappointing.

The attitude that we've received from customer service hasn't been even close to decent. The date that I wanted to rebook for was BLOCKED from the discount (email said ANY cruise) and the price was significantly more than my original price. It increased over a 4 day period. And they won't honor the onboard credit I had, too. So any way you look at it, if I decide to rebook, it will cost me more. Even though the original pre-fire price of the later sailing was a little less than my sailing.

I've been on 12 cruises. I know the prices and paying top dollar for an inside cabin to Mexico is unrealistic. Carnival should just give priority to those affected and not hike up the prices. I don't want something for free, just asking them to honor what they said they would offer to begin with. And blocking certain sailings wasn't in the original offer.

So how do you propose that they go about deciding who gets to sail on the spirit and who doesn't. The ship was already mostly booked. So therefore there were only a few openings. Who of the 3000 displaced should get them. Start with those that had booked suites and work down from there. Start with who booked first. Either way they would have to choose who got to cruise and who didn't. How in the world would that be fair?

they also need to reimburse those pax who buy cruise insurance, not from CCL, and within 14 days of initial deposit to cover pre existing conditions....this is a significant amount.

Just got off the phone with carnival. We were told they are not refunding 3rd party insurance. They are only covering carnival insurance. :(

Now what I think we deserve a refund back instead of the credit. IF for some reason we cant travel by then , then we lose what we paid for the insurance.

BTW- 3rd party said they only give refund within 10 days of purchase minus the paper processing fee. After that they only give credit for future vacation up to 770 from orignal purchase day. If its before your orignal sailing date you have to call and and they will apply it to your new booking number by phone. If its after the date you have to send a written request

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is "signature crap"? I still consider myself relatively new, and I'm not familiar with signatures.

It is the stuff at the end of your posts, like which ships you have sailed, when you are sailing agian and stuff like that.

And someone posted on the Splendor, Splendor, Splendor thread that they ran into a crew member who told them it would be AT LEAST 3 weeks if not much more. So at the very least Carnival knew the November cruises were canceled days before they said anything. Strategically I understand why they waited to announce to everyone who had their cruises canceled at the same time, but that doesn't mean they didn't know earlier.

A department head told me that the ship would not sail for at least 3 weeks before I got off the ship. So they knew the next 3 cruises would be cancelled.

We have sailed on both. Loved both....

The Splendor is 113,000 (approx) ... the Dream is 130,000 (approx)

BOTH ships have the Cloud 9 Spa cabins which are nonsmoking (as are their balconies). We had Spa cabins on both.

IF you are booking a balcony on the Dream...book the STARBOARD side to avoid the "Cigars under the stars" area on the PORT side.

The Splendor (IMHO) is better for nonsmokers because the entire Lido area (even by the pool) is nonsmoking. This is because it has a retrackable roof and is considered an indoor area.

However, the Dream is better for nonsmokers who gamble because most of the casino area is nonsmoking. And since the smoking area in the casino is furtherest away from the Promenade...there is less drifting smoking into the walkway area.

Loved the Pasta bar on the Dream....also loved the rotisserie chicken on the Splendor. Both are on the second level of Lido.

As far as smoking indoors...BOTH still have the disco and sports bar as designated smoking areas. However, on the Dream...only a small portion of the piano bar is smoking. Unfortunately, since you MUST be gambling to smoke in the casino, the piano bar seems to be where all the smokers go.

Overall, I think you will pleased with the Dream as long as your balcony is not near the outdoor cigar area.

I like Port Canaveral MUCH better than LA for embarkation and debarkation.

We were VIP for both ports.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

How do the spas compare? I never got to experience the spa on the Splendor but I did get to at least see it. I was so looking forward to spending time in the spa. I really don't want to travel back to the west coast for a cruise so I am considering the Dream in the future.

Some kind of cracked head or some such .. even I knew it would take more than a few days. Im thinking people started to plan and book alternate cruises even before the annoucement, hence the rise in prices before the announcement .. some people had to have guessed?? surely?? I get that some dont have the money to book until they got the credit and all, but how would anyone have thought the next cruise would be fine? The next cruise for me was a no brainer .. it wasnt going.

My Dec. 5th cruise was cancelled and we couldn't book an alternate cruise prior to the cancellation. If our Splendor cruise wasn't cancelled we would have lost our money. It sounds great to book another 7 day cruise but I only have so much vacation time that I can use. The only choice we had was to wait and see. I do want to say "Thank You" to Carnival for helping us to rebook on the Splendor. It took a few hours on the phone and my head was pounding when I finally hung up but we are back on the Splendor. I hope her repairs are finished in time for our cruise. I would hate to have to do this all over again. :)

Since you replied to me, Ill reply. I did not say this was true of all folks, but I bet some were already booking another cruise as a back up or put one on 24 hour hold. Im just saying this would be what I would have done, not that everyone would do this .. but thats why the prices started to jump even before the official announcement. .. someone WAS booking those cruises to have the price start up before the final annoucement. Mach keeps saying its based on supply and demand .. he is saying the same thing, people had to have been booking those cruises before the announcement... or the price would not have jumped.

I am sorry for those that needed the credit to rebook something else. All things Carnival could have done would have been fairer to some than to others, nothing is always going to affect everyone the same.

Hello fellow cruisers -

NO I feel that Carnival Corp can do much better with perks for cancelled cruises. At least 50% off with an upgrade - plus a on board cabin credit? After all - these cancelled trips are someones vacation and alot of time and money went into their planing. Carnival is still raking in the $ through their other vessels and various other cruise lines. Come on Carnival Corp.- loosen up and be a bit more generous to your cancelled patrons! This is no way to encourage repeat or 'first time' business.

Yes, it's fair.

I also would have been making alternative plans, without waiting for Carnival's announcement.

Are some actually surprised?

Does anyone know what the compensation was for the cruisers, waiting in NY, for the Titanic for its return trip?

(1/11 is the last canceled date, BTW)

This is a complete list from one of the passengers on the Carnival Splendor and everything Carnival did for the passengers.

Full refund

Future credit equal to total of what was paid to be applied to a future cruise and must be used within 2 years.

Refund of transportation costs to the pier and from San Diego back home. One person said they took a bus from Las Vegas to the pier and Carnival (besides putting them up in San Diego is flying them home.)

Overnight stay in San Diego for those who requested it AND a daily stipend.

For those who had flights Carnival made the changes for them.

Any charges made on Sunday on the guests “Sign and Sail card were forgiven!!! (This included spa treatments, alcohol, purchases in the gift shop AND even gambling losses in the casino slots!!!

All photos taken by Carnival of the guests were put out in the photo shop and guests were invited to come get their pictures at no charge!

On Tuesday and Wednesday Carnival opened some bars. Alcohol, wine and beer was given to the guests.

Carnival advised the guests that everything in their mini bars was free! (My minibar had 6 sodas, 6 beers, and 10 or 12 shot bottles of alcohol.

In my opinion Carnival went above and beyond for these passengers. I had a friend who was on the Carnival Splendor that week and she said that the crew from the Captain on down did a AWESOME JOB in keeping them safe. Marie and I are planning to go on the Carnival Splendor next year for Halloween.

Not only did the fly us back to Vancouver from San Diego, they also refunded our entire flight costs to and from Los Angeles and paid our baggage charges. Had we chosen, we could have taken our original flight home on the Sunday and they would have paid our hotel costs in San Diego for three nights.

I'm not sure why people are complaining.

We were told Carnival would refund all our transportation costs and now they are not honoring this at least over the phone at this time. Of course we haven't given up yet. So if they live up to their promises I think it is fair, if they don't then I don't think much of Carnival at all.

They were awesome while we were on the ship, I can not say the same since we have been off and trying to resolve our refunds. They had my husband so upset while talking to them he said it is not worth it. We will be happy if we get our airfare. They point blank said they would not pay for transfers from the airport to the ship and our one night hotel stay. We flew in from Ohio, I don't know how they would expect us to be ready to board the ship if we did not fly in a day early. They are refusing to refund this as well.
