CaribbeanCrazy Posted March 4, 2005 #26 Share Posted March 4, 2005 Is there an extra charge for the mini golf? CaribbeanCrazy
parody Posted March 5, 2005 #27 Share Posted March 5, 2005 There is no extra charge for playing minigolf. An ample supply of golf balls and putters are provided and one can golf all they want.
maggie27 Posted March 5, 2005 #28 Share Posted March 5, 2005 Can some one tell me this. We are going on the Golden next Feb 25th 06. Are any of these ports have to be tendered in?
Clubber Posted March 6, 2005 #29 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Last time I was in Grenada on Princess, we tendered there. I don't know if it is any different now or not.
bhopal21 Posted March 6, 2005 #30 Share Posted March 6, 2005 Grenada has a brand new pier that has just opened and tendering is not required. Mike
nutbrown Posted March 6, 2005 #31 Share Posted March 6, 2005 If you need to get out of the sun but want to relax in a lounge chair try the conservatory on deck 15. Its quiet up there, and there is a section of chairs in a covered area.
jcruise67 Posted March 7, 2005 #32 Share Posted March 7, 2005 I would imagine they have entertainment pool-side at the Neptune Pool? Is it Calypso w/ Sttel Pan, or live island band? DW and I are on the Golden in 40 days and we like to be where the pool entertainment is. Also, was there alot of Deck chair hogging at the main pool? This really never mattered to us, for we like sunning by the edge of the pool where ther is alot of room between the outside of the pool area and the pool itself. We don't sweat the chair thing, we just put our things near us by the ledge of the pool. John
jean s Posted March 7, 2005 #33 Share Posted March 7, 2005 I have to agree with most folks on this thread. The aft pool is wonderful. I know you can access it from the Horizon Buffet but we usually took the elevator to deck 12 and walked all the way aft. You can just walk out the door and there you are at the pool. We were just on the Star and we would have dinner in the dining room, go to a show and then get a driink and sit out by the aft pool. Very few people were ever there. I also enjoyed the promenade deck. I'm an early riser (even on vacation) so many mornings I would also walk (4 laps) on the promenade deck. The views were awesome....especially the approach to Tortola. It was slightly foggy and then suddenly the sun broke through. I only wish I had my camera in my hand. :o
llarosa Posted March 7, 2005 Author #34 Share Posted March 7, 2005 We are staying on the Lido Deck. Since there are pools and the Horizon Court on that deck, We'll probably tend to stay on that floor quite a bit... but - what other lever shouldn't we miss? KelleKae Posted March 7, 2005 #36 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Just returned from the Golden Princess yesterday. While I do think the Terrace of Aft pool is actually the nicest pool with the most spectular view, I found it to be almost as crowded as the other pools. There were ALOT of people at that pool on our cruise. But you can't view the view from the AFT of the ship! Now a note to coffee drinkers, my group of 10 thought the coffee was great. I am not a coffee drinker so I can't give my opinion specifically but every else commented on it several times and said how much they enjoyed it. The food was great -- 8 of us went to the Steak House and 2 of the steaks were not prepared to the temperture that was requested. My husband ordered a Porterhouse medium rare and it came medium well. My filet was awesome however. Sabitini's was great .... just way too much food for my small appetite. Weather was great the whole week and our entire group had very good luck in the casino's! Table games, not slots.
lgt Posted March 7, 2005 #37 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Ok, coffee drinkers - here's the best way to get a decent cup of coffee in the am. Take a room service coffee carafe to the lobby bar and tip the nice young lady behind the bar (I believe it opens at 7) and she will gladly fill the carafe full of fresh brewed coffee. I am not a coffee drinker so I can't give my opinion specifically but every else commented on it several times and said how much they enjoyed it.We were on the Golden last May and had NO problem with the coffee. We're not Starbuck's type folk - just good 'ol Maxwell House/Folgers type drinkers. Am glad to hear it hasn't gone for the worst as we'll be on the ship next week. 8 of us went to the Steak House and 2 of the steaks were not prepared to the temperture that was requested. My husband ordered a Porterhouse medium rare and it came medium well. My filet was awesome however.Great to hear Sterlings is as good on the Golden as I had read elsewhere. We'll stick with the Filet's! Sabitini's was great .... just way too much food for my small appetite.Exactly how I remember as well. Will not be doing this this time. Weather was great the whole week and our entire group had very good luck in the casino's! Table games, not slots.Congrats on the weather. I have read the week before's itinerary did not have the luck you had. Hopefully, our weather experience will be as nice as yours was. Congrats on the Casino winnings as well. Will be looking forward to a complete review of your cruise if you have the time to write one. Thanks for the feedback! ~Paul :)
llarosa Posted March 8, 2005 Author #39 Share Posted March 8, 2005 I'm getting so ready for this! So did you play blackjack or something else? What kind of table minimums do they have in the casino?
LarryF Posted March 8, 2005 #40 Share Posted March 8, 2005 I hate to give up this secret, but when we were on the Grand Princess, everyday in the Horizen Court Restaraunt, they put out 4 or 5 different flavored ice creams that are really good. This was unannounced, so it was really never crowded. I think they do this as well on the Golden. At least I hope so!!

bhopal21 Posted May 13, 2005 #42 Share Posted May 13, 2005 Skywalker's is open to any age during the day and actually was closed to adults until after 9pm one evening during the week. We went up had a seat and were asked to leave and come back later. lol Mike

Was just on the Golden for the repo to NYC and I only saw ice cream one day, and that was the day of 20 foot swells and 65MPH winds in the Nor Easter! What a great idea, pass out free ice cream the day a lot of people are eating less!

mmsoko Posted June 12, 2005 #45 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Just in case you haven't read this hints: Ask for an eggcrate mattress pad...your TA can order ahead or ask your cabin steward when you arrive. Also down pillows are available for the asking. Robes are available in all cabins, but sometimes don't arrive until second day because of wash day turnaround. Have you read the thread on the drink of day specials? The first time you purchase "drink of the day" ask for a sticker for your cruise card. From that time forward "drinks of the day" are discounted. You can do the "bar hop"....buy a drink at each of 14 bars and win a tee shirt! DH loved the challenge! You'll love the Golden. spongerob Posted June 12, 2005 #46 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Here is another little tip to get around the ship a little more easily. When it gets crowded on deck 7 due to the photo shop being open and the silly tables being set up, you can nip outside on the open deck to get foreward or aft more easily, and avoid the congestion in these two areas. What a great idea, pass out free ice cream the day a lot of people are eating less! I was on that same cruise and they had icecream everyday at the horizon court between 3:30 and 4:30. They did run out of the good flavors rather fast but it was everyday.
mmsoko Posted June 13, 2005 #49 Share Posted June 13, 2005  No, not the same day! Get the card to be stamped at the first bar...then during your cruise visit, buy a drink and get card stamped at all the other bars. The bar hop isn't "advertised" until later in the cruise, as I recall, but every bartender knows about it. Start early:D.
