Where do you keep your money?

This may be a stupid questions; but I was wondering where you keep all of your extra cruise money. I have heard people suggesting carrying ones, fives and tens to pay for bar and cab fares. I would like to pay for a lot in cash so I don't have a huge credit bill; but I am worried about suitcases being lost or stolen. Do you keep all of your money in your purse/carry-on; divide it between your suitcases; credit; etc. Just wondering what your opinions are on the safest management of your money before/during cruise?

All of it in my purse, will never trust anyone going through my bags not to take cash...

while we are flying we split it between my husband and myself. After boarding the ship we keep in cabin safe. We take cash and travelers cheques.

I tend to keep a lot of mine in the casino, but it's hard get make withdrawals.

 

I keep most in the safe, not because I think someone will steal it - the casino doesn't like competition, but to pace myself.

 

You can get larger bills broken at the casino or the purser.

 

I've always been able to cash a personal check for up to $250 with an American Express card with the purser. Amex is the only card that will apparently guarantee the checks.

 

Onboard, other than the casino and for tips if you wish, there isn't much use for cash - everything will be charged to your sail and sign card which will go against your credit card, but you always have the option to pay down your charges with cash.

In the safe or in my husband's wallet. We use the AMEX Travel funds card now, like it much more than using a credit card (hate those large bills) and travel checks can be a pain. We generally have about $200.00 in cash, at all times, not enough to cry over but enough "just in case".

I take very little cash with me on cruises. All the incidental charges will be on the S&S account. I take lots of $1s for porters, room service tips, etc. I keep my wallet in the safe on sea days. On port days, I take only $10s, $5s, and $1s for my purchases, park fees, and/or lunch.

While traveling I keep some money in my wallet and my wife keeps some in her purse. The bulk of our extra cash I wear in a money belt. As others have said it goes in the safe once we are on the ship.

 

I would never put cash in any checked luggage; either on a flight or at the port. It isn't that I think porters and security people are corrupt, I just don't think it is smart to let cash out of sight.

I carry all the cash in a pouch that is worn around my neck and hides under my clothing. I won't get specific about where that is.;) As soon as we are on the ship, the cash goes in the safe. We like to pay our S&S off with cash before leaving the ship. Makes the vacation nicer not to have credit card bills arriving later. However, I'll admit, sometimes the casino gets enough to keep me from paying all the S&S in cash. Oh well, that's what credit cards are for.:D

If you are worried about the credit card bill send in an xtra payment instead of carring the cash. Like everyone else, travelers checks on a cruise are a pain in the neck in port. If you are planning to pay your S&S card with cash then just apply the amt when you arrive and then there is the cabin safe. On our first cruise they didnt have those and we hid our money in the overhead lighting. Things are different now. When in port we keep some small bills for taxi's or cheap things we pick up. We each carry 1/2 the money. Even if you spend very little on the boat you are sure to have at least a 200.00 bill, just send the xtra payment.

Part in his wallet, part in a money clip in his front pocket, and part in my purse. Once aboard, it all goes in the safe!

I hope this isn't to off topic, but where do you keep your money on swimming excursions? For example if your doing a snorkeling excursion or going to see the stingrays where do you keep your cash or credit cards while in the water?

They have swimming suits that have a heavy duty waterproof baggie that is attached to the inside front pocket ( mines by Speedo). The front pockets are zippered so even if the stiring attached to the baggie breaks its stays in your pocket. Keep all my cash, credit card, SS card, etc. in there. Never gets wet.

I also have the spash caddy... I don't use the belt... Just use the bag carried in my front ( zippered) pocket. Works great!

For splash caddy fans this is the company that makes them. You can order just the bags in assorted sizes which is what I do. They are really waterproof - assuming you seal them. You do have to keep them corraled or they will float up and out of your pocket.

I kept everything of importance ( i.e. birth certificate, drivers license, MONEY ...WOO HOOO ... lol) in my camera bag. I carried that on so I knew it would be safe ....well at least until I had a couple of foo foo drinks ....btw could someone pass me one .....lmao ..... We boarded, looked around a bit, and then went to the cabin. We put all our extra cash in the safe. I locked our safe w/ my Kroger card ... man those things are so damn handy .... and I hid the Kroger card in my make-up bag ...... Well now that my jig is up I will have to come up w/ another secret ....lmao ... Anyways I hope this helps ... Happy Cruisin'.....

While on the ship, I only keep enough on me for one port day. The rest stays in the lock box in the cabin or a safe deposit box at the information area.

Then we use those strap on purse-things while walking around in ports.

I put mine in a brand new pair of panyhose. The cardboard had a lite piece of scotch tape, I opened the container & stuffed my money in that. Then reclosed, so it looked brand new.
