For those taking the Holy Land Cruise to Egypt

What now?

 

 

For now...wait and see....still 8 months from now...so much can happen in that time.....we so want to see the Pyramids/Sphinx....wonder when Celebrity will make the call to cancel or not.....

i heard on the news that all pyramid/attractions in egypt have been canceled by their government, and americans are still evactuating..

We're on that cruise in August and haven't even considered cancelling the cruise - if the worst comes to the worst and you can't o to Egypt I imagine that the ship will probably go somewhere else --- Rhodes, Cyprus perhaps ???? The 2 days in Egypt are only 2 out of a 12 day cruise!

Yes I am sure they will change the Itinerary and Istanbul of course is an option for an overnight. While we look forward to seeing the Pyramids, Istanbul would be a good alternative. Definitely no thoughts of cancelling. Our PM has just sent a Qantas plane to Cairo to evacuate many Aussies.

I think it's far too early to assume the Egypt stops will be changed/cancelled. Our cruise isn't until 9/15....the way the world is these days that seems like an eternity... Of course if things are still in this kind of unrest as the date gets closer they will cancel but I'm hopeing they won't have to....... Can't think of a single other port in the Med that could equal this one...pyramids/sphinx/valley of the kings so many other sites.....my husband has dreamed of seeing these things all his life......

You are absolutely right Gracie and I am sure there would not be an Itinerary change unless things didn't improve. No one knows how events will unfold, but it does seem inevitable that there will be a regime change and as Tourism is so important to Egypt, they will want to get access to the Pyramids reopened as soon as possible. We are so looking forward to waking up at Mena House in rooms with a "Pyramid View", but then again we certainly don't want to travel anywhere unsafe. Time will tell and we are not panicking yet and hopefully Celebrity will keep us well informed.

Looking at Sky News from the UK today it seems that the protests are quite peaceful so we can all pray for a peaceful end to all of this. Must admit, we have been to Egypt on a mini cruise and seen the sites so we wouldn't be too worried if we had to go to Cyprus or Rhodes - not the pyramids etc but there are some fabulous sites to see !

10/22/11 transatlantic booked - as was the prior cruise to Holy Lands.

we cancelled that one to stay in Positano/Rome for 9 days before TA.

why ? the overnight tours cost 1/2 what a 7day escorted land tour would cost !!

would love to do Holy Land some day - probably as land pkg so we see/feel more.

I wonder when X is going to update the deck plans on their website. The current plan still shows the Glass Blowing studio/etc. I was trying to determine where the new Patio, art studio & porch will be located?

Last year I called X's CC to ask what the name of the MDR was going to be on Eclipse since the deck plans still listed it as "main dining room" 60 days before we were supposed to sail on the Oct. 31st Inaugural TA! They had no idea that the deck plans were not complete, and it was more than a week after I called before the deck plans were finally updated. At least they have Silhouette's dining room on the deck plans already... ;)

It's a nice video, but not quite accurate. At :31 seconds in, it shows an artist's rendering of the lawn club with the new "alcove cabana's" and a glass enclosed area, which I assume is the new Lawn Club grill/restaurant. At :35 seconds in, it shows this same area (at night), sans cabana's with the addition of a "people sized" chess game and NO glass enclosed area.

I must admit Fred, the video was quite amusing. They did a pretty good job of piecing assorted clips together but as noted by bhughey, it's not accurate. The clip where the lawn is being mowed shows the HG show in the background, which will not be on Silhouette. And the name of the MDR is "Grand Cuvee" not "Silhouette"... :)

Eine interessante Erkenntnis haben wir gerade in der Auswertung der Suchabfragen bei cruisetricks.de gewonnen: Viele haben Probleme mit der richtigen Schreibweise der “Celebrity Silhouette“. Und ich gebe zu, ich stolpere auch gelegentlich über das Wort. Dabei sind englische und deutsche Schreibweise von “Silhouette” ausnahmsweise sogar identisch. Und auch die Rechtschreibreform hat erstaunlicherweise keine Änderungen bei der Silhouette vorgenommen – obwohl das bei diesem schwierigen Wort vielleicht angebracht wäre. Schließlich hat man selbst dem vergleichsweise einfach zu schreibenden Delphin das “ph” geraubt …
