Do you decorate your cabin door?

No.

Don't get it.

To those that do decorate: Do you decorate your hotel room doors when staying on land?

I know, call us crazy if you must, but it's for the same reason that we all post here on the cruise critic boards --- we just are excited about being on the ship. It's for the same reason that many of us do the "luggage tag & boarding pass dance" when the day finally comes that we can print them.

We've never stayed a week or two at just one land based hotel, but if we did, we might decorate too.

For Christmas we had a full sized wreath hanging on our cabin door and loved looking at it for the full 18 days.

Sign me up for being crazy, it's fun!

I doubt they do and I also don't think they would dine at a table with 8 other strangers either. There's something about being on a ship that makes people act strangely.

Not making fun of, just something that I don't get.

2fer....what did you use to hang your full size Christmas wreath? I am going on a cruise in March during St. Patrick's Day and would like to do a little "green" decorating. Also will be celebrating the big 5-0 on this cruise!

we have a small flag on a wooden dowel (about 1.5 x 1 foot) that we hang from our balcony.

love the idea of a wreath! That must of been cute.

I always put a door sign, and love seeing others decorations! Often see people checking out our sign and even had one couple say the sign saves them as they know they are on the right side of the ship for their cabin.

All in good fun... doesn't hurt anyone and maybe puts a smile on someone's face.... that is why I love cruising

Many cabin stewards will remove anything you have hanging on your balcony. It can be a fire hazard with people smoking out there and tossing their live ashes that can be blown by the wind.

We've never decorated our door. I think I might decorate my parents' door for their 60th wedding anniversary cruise. I'm sure it'll help them find their cabin. ;)

I just came back from my 1st cruise, Mexican Riveira and yes, I did decorate my door. I had picked up some Mexican decorations at the 99 cent store, (around Cinco de Mayo), cardboard sign with Chili Peppers and Mexican Fiesta written across the middle, some cutouts of parrots, tropical flowers and a sombrero. It was quite festive and we got positive comments on it. It made us happy. We had some extras and decorated the cabin adding the leis we got at Fiesta Night on the Lido Deck.

This is YOUR vacation and I say do whatever you want! Wear what you want, drink what you want, read what you want, sleep when you want and decorate your door if you want!

Never thought about decorating our door but it sure would have helped on our last cruise. The morning we were getting off the ship we were leaving early. I went down to the pursers desk around 5a.m. to get my final statement. Coming back to our room I wondered why my key wouldn't open the door so I knocked knowing my hubby was awake. Boy was I embarrassed when a very sleepy woman answered the door and I realized our room was the next one down.:o

We've decorated before on the Ecstasy. Nothing fancy- just a doorknob decoration. I really want to do something for Mardi Gras this time and we are in a long corridor and marking the door will come in handy. Some very good ideas here! I especially like the one of subbing faces and celebrity bodies!:D

Thanks for all of your replies :)

CasinoVisitor - what do you decorate your balcony with while in Port? I see that UpcountryTravelers used their state flag - nice!

In the Caribbean some palm tree and dancing porpoise posters from the party store and a 3d smiley sun that we hung from the roof.

In the Baltic our Minnesota Vikings flag (it was football season)

On our cruise to Europe a couple years ago two of our family members had birthdays so we decorated their doors for that.

I have no issues with people that decorate their cabin doors. When I walk by and see it I know they must be fun people that are enjoying every moment of their vacations.

We got a package of the large Command Strips. Works really well without taking up room in the suitcase so it's reusable. We'll be taking it with us on the Sapphire to Mexico on 4/30 -- I'm looking for a mini pinata to hang ;)

My mind goes in a thousand directions with the thought of a St. Patty's cruise with all the greens; can you tell I decorate my house for all occassions? Have a wonderful 50th celebration; happy birthday a little early :)

I don't put cruising vacations in the same league as hotel vacations -- that's why you'll see signs and other decorations on many cabin doors, but you won't on hotel doors. When passengers are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, there's balloons and a congratulatory sign. On our last cruise, our cabin steward found some tape for my sign (I hadn't unearthed my roll of scotch tape yet from my carryon).

What a great idea! I wish I knew about this on our first cruise. For some reason, it's less easy for me to find our room in a cruise ship than in a hotel. Like Liza, I tried to get in someone else's cabin . Luckily I realized that it wasn't our room before I knocked! One of the ship crew saw the whole thing and we both laughed :D

When traveling in a large group on land for some event that connects us all -- convention etc. I have decorated my hotel room door but it's infrequent.

As a Penn State alum I used to put some Nittany Lion magnet on the doors but lost every one over the years. Now through the year at expos & such if I find a business whose's magnet has an outline of NJ on it, I take one as a promotional item. I put that on the door just to be able to find the cabin. It works like a charm & no one has ever taken the magnet.

When we went on our Full Transit Panama Canal Cruise we were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary. So for the door decorations I made up cute little couple magnets. Some were bird couples, fish couples, animal couples (you get the picture). I also made a bigger happy 40th anniversay magnet. All together about 14 magnets. At the end of the 14 days counted them and had 12 left. I kind of hope whoever took those particular two magnets took them because they held special meaning to them. On our day that we celebrated our Anniversay our room steward placed all the magnets in the shape of a heart. When I thanked him he said it makes him feel good to see a happy couple that have been married sooooooo long. Kind of made me feel my age, but just a bit. Anyway he didn't seem to mind the decorations or the Twirly on the balcony (which by the way is fire proof).

Love those decorations, makes me feel unique in the sea of people.

2fer...Thanks for the birthday wishes! Yes, I will HAVE to decorate my door for this cruise...not only is it my 50th Birthday but I'm a St. Patrick's baby as well. I went to the party store and they have these Green Shamrocks that are kinda like a wreath...so I'm heading out to buy the Command Strips and the Shamrocks! The party store had some great St. Patty's Day decorations...I may lose my mind. Look out Debit Card here I come!

With a long hallway of look-alike doors, I can see how having your door decorated would make it easy to pick out. Do any of you decorate? Is the door metal so that you can use a magnet to hang something on it?

Thanks for starting this thread! We never have decorated, but after reading about some doing it for b-days, I've just picked up some Silver Anniversary stuff to hang in our room & on the door on the actual anniversary, which falls half way through our cruise. It will really surprise DH. Princess is putting up balloons by the mail box, for the entire cruise, so he really won't be expecting more. Thanks to you! ALOHA! :D
