tarheelmjfan Posted March 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2011 We'll be sailing on Legend this summer. My DS(19) is in the age dead zone, as far as activities go. There will probably be times, when he has nothing to do on sea days. He's more than happy playing his guitar. Would he be able to carry his ukulele or guitar on? If so, would it be okay for him to play on the balcony? Naturally, if our neighbors had a problem with it, he wouldn't do it. He also wouldn't play at night, when others may be sleeping. I wouldn't allow him to disturb others, just to entertain himself. TIA for the help. :)

*Mach* Posted March 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2011 he can bring it on, but will be confiscated if anyone complains. Yep... that's the case: • Musical Instruments: We will allow musical instruments onboard, however, if a noise complaint is received it will be confiscated by shipboard security and returned to the guest on the morning of debarkation. http://www.carnival.com/cms/faq/default.aspx?icid=CC_Footer_88 :)
tarheelmjfan Posted March 11, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted March 11, 2011 yep! Awesome, thanks! :) he can bring it on, but will be confiscated if anyone complains. I would hope someone would ask him to stop, before complaining to GS. We definitely wouldn't allow him to play again, if they did. If they feel compelled to complain, we'll be prepared for it to be confiscated. No biggie, as long as he gets it back eventually.
firefly333 Posted March 11, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2011 ... and people complain who are next to a smoker on the balcony. To me this would be worse. Hopefully you supervise his hours so he isnt out there all the time playing.
gizfish Posted March 11, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Out of courtesy for others, I would hope he only play quietly inside the cabin. People who are relaxing on their balcony could very well be disturbed but not want to make waves and complain.

norcal2 Posted March 11, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2011 I would probably have him play inside the cabin with doors closed so no one hears him and he can have it for the entire trip. It is an adventure so I can see him even enjoying it on a beach alone or with friends.
jandjfun Posted March 12, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2011 GEEZ!!! If we were on the same cruise, he could play it on MY balcony:D:D:D. I wouldn't care. Awesome that he can play the guitar!:D
Rottweiler Puppy Posted March 12, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2011 If he plays like tiny Tim. I would call security and have it smashed into pieces. If he plays like this guy I will hire him.
tarheelmjfan Posted March 12, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted March 12, 2011 Jane, you are so great! Thanks for making my day better. Rottweiler Puppy, he's pretty good, but I'm probably biased. ;)

I would be somewhat disappointed if I went outside and heard somebody playing a guitar or uke. Well, maybe I would be. Im out there to hear the sound of the ocean. Rare richstowe Posted March 12, 2011 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2011 Thankyou tarheelmjfan for my favorite post of the week . All heartfelt music is good music. Play on ! Now back to rum runners and formal night questions.
deeluvs2cruise Posted March 12, 2011 #15 Share Posted March 12, 2011 Agreed. I would be somewhat disappointed if I went outside and heard somebody playing a guitar or uke. Well, maybe I would be. Im out there to hear the sound of the ocean. On my last cruise, on a port day, someone was playing a harmonica on their balcony:eek:. Needless to say, I didn't stay out there long, but it only happened that one time. It was annoying.........Guitar music would be better.
billie5 Posted March 12, 2011 #16 Share Posted March 12, 2011 I agree that it would be a shame if one could not go out onto the balcony to hear the sea. That is what passengers are expecting and paying for. I would not complain, but I would certainly be disappointed. Now, on the beach one could choose to sit nearby or move elsewhere, but in one's balcony there is no option. It would be great, and much better for him in the long run, if you could encourage your 19 year old to read instead. Have you considered taking a laptop for him? Nezmo Posted March 13, 2011 #17 Share Posted March 13, 2011 I tell you what, I'll bring an electric guitar or two, some amps and he and I can set-up shop in the casino. It's gotta be better than the last guy I heard in there. Seriously though, I think you've got the right frame of mind. Hope he has fun with it. Harrier1961 Posted March 13, 2011 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2011 If he has any talent, I would love to be on a balcony and listen to the music. That would be awesome. Just my 2 cents. Andy.

schmi1jw Posted March 13, 2011 #21 Share Posted March 13, 2011 just a suggestion, but if he has an electric guitar i would take that (without the amp). THey are easier to travel with and the noise level will be cut in more than half IMO. I play guitar and whenever my wife goes to bed i just bring out the electric and she never complains. Something to think about.
