All Things Explorer of the Seas! -- Part 2

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm hoping to utilize the gym at least a couple of days on my 9niter, even if it's just 15min on the treadmill. Are there lockers & showers at the gym?

As for the lockers are they secured with like a key or via coins, or is it just freely open? I'm not worried about theft or anything like that, but just wondering.

If there are showers, do they supply towels?

Thanks everyone!

Yes to lockers, showers and towels.

In fact the showers are normal-sized! Much larger than the ones in the cabins.

To get a locker take your seapass up the spiral staircase to the spa desk. They will hold your seapass for you and give you a key to a locker. The keys are on a wristband so you can wear it if you like. Quite handy.

Where is smoking allowed and prohibited in public spaces?

I don't smoke and am not bothered by smoke, so I have a very small list for each. Smokers and those who hate smoke will have a more complete list. :D

Allowed - casino on non-formal nights. One side of all outside decks. Nightclub. Connoisseurs Club. Some other bars.

Not allowed - casino on formal nights. All restaurants. One side of all outside decks. Royal Promenade, stairwells, elevators, hallways, staterooms.

Question? Is there a Grand suite on the EOS to avoid?? I am booked in 1568 and don't mind the location of it. Walking to and from the stairs is no big deal for us. GS 1324 is available for our cruise and many people have told me to switch to that cabin because of the location. Again, the walk is no big deal, plus I can use it after eating :). I don't want to kick myself in the rear if I stay or change cabins.

We stayed in that suite last year, tried to get it on our last cruise but it was booked. Love the location and did not have any problems with noise. ;)

Thanks then I will stay where I am. Seven GS are reserved and 1324 is still available. I thought that room was always the first GS to go? 2014 can't come soon enough.

Went to see the Explorer off today. She was bow in first as opposed to being backed in.

Yes.....saw that on the harbor cam....was wondering if they were performing some maintenance that required the ship facing that way, or what was the reason, otherwise.....

We've stayed in 1324 3x and absolutely love it - close to the elevators, stairs, no noise and just a short trip up the stairs to the windjammer. Love the bowed part of the balcony and the view! I think most GS on the EOS are great...no worries. We always try to get 1324 if we can.

Congrats on your great achievement B-52!! I may not be up as early as you but in the past 3 months I have lost over 30 pounds and luckily I have no health problem but I will get up early and jog every day. Enjoy your dance with your daughter!!

I'm at my gym every day at 5 am before work...

Why? I have already had one heart attack with a stent placement.

Diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides all out of whack.

Since then, I have lost 85 lbs, no longer eat things like red meat, exercise everyday.

No longer take any meds, diabetes completely reversed. I am 60 years old and I will go up against anyone 20 years younger.

And I will dance at my Daughter's wedding this coming October.....

But that's another story....not about cruising. Just saying....

Just wanted to confirm after reading some of these posts.

1. You CANNOT bring wine on board at all????

2. You CAN bring a case of water on board and just put a luggage tag on it and should not be an issue?

leaving on the EOS on June 7th

thanks for any responses..

we booked explorer for mar 2013 is the water pretty rough that time of year. we are staying at hilton garden inn on staten island we are driving from ohio and will have the whole day on monday we want to take the ferry and see sol and ellis island will it be far to drive from the hotel to the ferry also do you pay for the ferry and do you pay at sol to see it we have never been to ny or is there a better way to go about it. ny help appreciated.

Here is a cheap/easy way to see both ellis island and the statue of liberty. If you are using a GPS or a smart phone, plug in the Staten Island Ferry (on bay street) and park your car in the lot for $7 for the entire day. The trip to manhattan is free and you get an awesome view of the statue of liberty as well as the city from the boat. Once in Manhattan, you take a five minute walk to Battery Park (up Whitehall Street and left on Pearl). The Circle Line Ferry Service is located in Battery Park and they offer a $12 ferry ride which includes round trip to Liberty island and Ellis island. Just remember to take the ferry back to manhattan and not into NJ on your way home! You will also be close to the 9/11 Memorial if you are interested in taking a look at that also. All the ferry rides are amazing if the sun is shining and the weather is nice! Enjoy your short stay with us in Staten Island! If you have any other questions about anything Staten Island or Lower Manhattan feel free to ask!

Can someone tell me how we'd go about getting to the park I see so many pictures of? Is it possible to walk there after having parked the car in the lot for the cruise? I would love to have a chance to see the memorial - and take pictures of the ship - before we check in and board.

it is easier to go first..just follow the little signs...instead of going left to park, you turn right by the electronic sign...if anyone stops you tell them you are going to the memorial....it will make sense when you get there...it's easier to do it this way than to get on the ship, then off, and walk over....it CAN be done, but it is easier to go first...there is too much traffic for you to walk over....

sounds confusing but it will make sense....the signs for the memorial are small....you will see what i mean...right where all the cars are going LEFT, you will go right...and the guard that's right near the crew gangway may or may not stop you and search the trunk.....
