If you could change anything about Carnival?

for us, it's too late.

we are already out and enjoying other lines, and am now even considering ncl, as i hear they have continually improved their product, all while carnival is dumbing down theirs.

We switched to NCL 3 years ago and glad we did. Free style dining and not having to wear a tux sold me on it. We have enough pictures in formal wear but can still dress up if we want to. We get the 'mini-suites" and find them the right size for us.

There is a really good review of the NCL Epic on another board and plan our next cruise on it.

I believe that you always could put 2 people in the single studio cabins, but they would be cramped as there is no place to sit down except on the bed. What some people were doing was to each book a cabin that was connecting and leave the door open. Made for a bit more room. I wouldn't want to be in one of those rooms with 2 people. One person occupying it was perfect.

Yes, you can book 2 in there. However, NCL does limit how many cabins allow it. they don't allow it in every room. Another thing to consider is those rooms have their own lounge area. Just outside their doors is a large, nicely appointed common living room. It's meant to better accomodate single travelers, but if 2 people conciously book a studio cabin, they really can't complain about the set-up.

Taking my tenth Carnival Cruise next month and I do have to agree with much said here.

One thing I'd love to see is actual enforcement of the rules, whatever they may be.

Dress code in the dining room. Either eliminate the dress code or enforce it. I'm not looking for tuxedos and gowns but if they say no shorts or flip flops, please escort out those who wear them.

Same for chair savers. Either eliminate the rule or enforce it.

Same for smoking in designated areas.

Really, it seems that employees are scared to enforce the rules in fear of offending the cruiser. What I would love to make clear is that the cruisers around the offender is equally affected.

Finally, and this is just selfish - casinos should offer free drinks to players. That is standard practice in all other gaming situations.

My 2 cents.

I'm envious that you got that "head start" on me . . . . but I'm catching up as fast as I can. :D

I was an immediate fan, and I hope that continues to be the case.

24hr comfort food restaurant, like Blue Lagoon on NCL.

I was just mentioning that on another thread (Suite Perk comparisons)! CAN'T WAIT!!

BTW (for those who don't know) they don't charge $3.33 for their wings... ;)

Most of the lines charge a single occupant twice the per person rate.

The reason is pretty simple. When you look at their revenue a cruise line during the cruise makes the cabin rate, and a range of other potential sales to each passenger (bar, stores, excursions, pictures, etc.). When a single person books a room the cruise line might make the same amount for the room, but they lose the opportunity for other sales. That lost opportunity for additional sales means far more to the cruise line then the amount they save in food. Basically, even with the single traveler having to pay for two in cabin fare, the cruise line still loses money compared to if the cabin was holding two passengers.

From what I heard talking to a cruise director. Carnival makes no profit booking the cabins. So if they are anticipating "X" number of passengers paying "$X.??" for total room space sold I can maybe see why they charge double now for the solo cruiser. I guess if they get more 3+ rooms sold is why you may see reduced rates as the sail date gets closer to just fill up the remaining rooms if they surpass the minimal take of sold rooms.

All of the money they take in booking cabins goes towards fuel, food, maitainence and the salaries for the crew. That's why they always try to sail with all CABINS BOOKED. All profit comes from sales on board the ship, Casino and excursions.

The equation is a little more complicated than that. They also can only sell so many of the 3 and 4 passenger rooms due to lifeboat capacity. Sometimes max capacity is attained without all the rooms being booked. When they are near max capacity and have a couple dozen or so rooms still available, it would be nice if they could offer a singles rate fire sale to fill certain rooms with solo travelers. I usually sail with my husband, but being retired and living near the POM, I would gladly hop aboard at a discounted solo rate.

The process is working for NCL on the Epic with solo cabins, and now, RCI is installing solo cabins on the Radiance of the Seas. Obviously, there is a market for them. Eventually, CCL will realize it also.

i find it hard to believe that, as well as them even knowing or discussing this.

Bring back the bands on Lido deck. It makes for a good sail away party. Come on Carnival how much more cutting are you gonna do before you start to offer free pony rides skiball and cotton candy for desert.....oh but the price will be right:confused:

Hey now, no disparaging Skeeball. I'd love a skeeball alley or two on a ship.

How about they get rid of the boring old Catskills-on-the-seas group activities and lame games?

now you're barking up the wrong tree. I still go to the same catskill "resort" that i first went to at the age of 1 back in the 50's.

10 cent bingo, horse racing, and all the rot, still. and the place is still packed every year.

Does Johnny still lead the tango at the End of Summer show? Do you also stick Baby in a corner? ;)

I like the ships where I can ignore the CD. :p

Lame games... like their "Cornhole" game?

I was taken aback when I first saw that on a Carnival ship, as I recall that word from my middle school days.

so....

Just RENAME the darn game to bean bag toss or something... I can't be the only one whose eyebrows were raised as a result!

That's what we call it, Bean Bag Toss. I guess it's not as entertaining without a racy double entendre, but it's still a lot of fun, especially if you're two and a half sheets to the wind and there isn't a dart board in sight.

Safer yes ... but only slightly so when compared to a plastic auto-scoring dart board. Those plastic-tipped darts don't hurt nearly badly as the metal ones.

Real men throw SHARP darts... ;) (and don't play CORNHOLE).

Just having fun here !

:D

Haven't read the whole thread, so please excuse any duplication:

1) eliminate Color Wars (if that's still done)

2) eliminate the Dog'n'Pony show of the waiters dancing on the FOOD SERVING platforms ! !

3) develop a real past cruiser program PLATINUM, MILESTONE etc. with some real incentives besides a picture frame, dried out crepes, and stationery with name typed at the top (at least get an embossing machine and use it). So juvenile. (FREE LAUNDRY and VIP BOARDING is still a great idea):)

4) changeup the menus more frequently.

5) Enforce your existing RULES AND POLICIES.

6) Declare that anybody with a last name of ROUNDS be considered a "Friend of Carnival" and have their cruises reduced by 50% for the rest of their lives.:D

Keep on doing everything exactly as you have been doing Carnival. You're making a lot of people very happy and dominating the industry at the same time. The two ideals for any corporation. Keep on keepin' on. :D

And the only peanut butter they pack is in their children's lunch boxes. (Sorry, just couldn't let that go by) :D

why make new rules when you don't enforce the ones you've had for years....

anyway, on to the original post...

1. the cabin decor....give me something ocean themed ;)

2. 24 hour station for pizza, burgers, WINGS.....

3. photos...stop wasting ink paper and time...

4. make the cabin TV's more interactive for photos, excursions, reservations, etc....

5. let me in my cabin at noon, if only to drop and go....

6. shows and big screens are so loud, they are distorted....

7. allow me to bring a bottle of WHATEVER I drink, not just wine...

8. entertainment is sadly lacking, I'm not asking for the Stones, but quit butchering the same songs over and over.....

9. ENFORCE THE RULES YOU HAVE IN PLACE NOW....

10. I really do love Carnival and I will return over and over..... :D

A la NCL's Blue Lagoon or similar!

On the new CARNIVAL MAGIC they do offer wings in the Red Frog Pub --- but they'll cost you $3.33... for each serving. ;)

I don't know about you, but I can eat some wings!!

I saw a post similar to this but asking about the website but im curious if you could change anything about Carnival ships or anything what would it be??:D

  • Bring the good food back into the MDR.
  • Bring back the full 4 courses back to dinner in the MDR
  • Better wine packages
  • Real chocolate cake and fudge desserts you can sink your reeth into available every night and not just that liquid chocolate.
  • Scrap those damn annoying big screens!!!
  • Full band back at poolside.
  • String Quartet and small bands back in the Atriums and remove all the games from that area
  • Bring back the Full bands back around the ships, which you have replaced with comedians, kereokee, and guys with synthisizers.
  • Bring back the full band to the show lounge and get some better acts.
  • Open the roof on the Solarium when the sun is out
  • Move the 24 hour pizza (and the kids that go with it) into the buffet area and out of the adult pool areas.
  • Put more than 1 person at the 24 hour pizza
  • More bartenders at the pool bars and increase their hours
  • Bands on deck every night playing music (with the aformentioned bars open).
  • Open the bars at the back of the ships earlier as well as your sports bar.
  • Open Sur Mer (fish and chips place on conquest) EVERY DAY and open for DINNER EVERY DAY
  • Bring back good Beer Bucket specials
  • Bigger glasses for the Lido
  • Better air conditioning in the rooms

For all the above, feel free to increase my prices accordingly.
