Sorry, I don't see the problem, but I am not a gambler.

*LOL* I guess it depends on how superstitious you are. I'd say by and large, most gamblers don't like to temp fate, and that would be a no-no.

Perhaps that was an opportunity to continue the lesson being taught, and explain why that was a bad thing to say...they should learn the etiquette too!

If I was at the table, I would've left the table as soon as I could. Then made sure I was no where near them through out the rest of my time in the casino.

If it was A Bronx Tale they would've done this to the two of them. Clip is from an "R" rated movie -

This is why I am really reluctant to do anything in the casino. See--I would have NO IDEA not to do that. I mean, I go to the gaming classes and stuff--so I get the gist of the game--but it's that kind of thing that I just don't know how you learn it--especially if you are just a "vacation" gambler. I use to play black jack but I committed some similar sin--can't remember--those of you out there who gamble can probably imagine--because I am that woman that you want to strangle. And so as not to tempt fate--I stay away now. But I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun, but it is not worth upsetting people. :)

HUUUUUUGGGGGGGGEEEEE NO-NO!

For those that don't believe fate...stand by a craps table and wait for one of the following things to happen:

- Somebody says "7"

- Stick Man inadvertently flips the dice to a "7" when pushing them to the shooter

- Dice hit a stack of chips mid-throw

- Dice are thrown off the table

You will be AMAZED at how often one of those four occurrences will cause the dice to "magically" role to a 7. I know it sounds stupid. I know it really does sound ridiculous. But it's eerily true.

Makes me think of the time that DH took me to one of my first pro baseball games. I'm trying to pay attention and learn, so around the 7th inning or so, looking up at the scoreboard I noticed a row of zeros, turned to Hubby and naively asked "So what exactly does a 'no-hitter' mean?" He turns to look at me with horror, just as we heard the sound of the bat connecting with a ball...:o I wasn't too popular in the Bleachers that day.

That is very true...however, as a former craps dealer, in Vegas, I have never heard anyone remark or react when the word "7" was uttered. ;)

I am one of those crazy superstitius people, when I explain the gam I always say to whoever before we get to table never mention the words, I also don't play when dice roll off the table and I don't like when new people come to the table when we are on a roll, just me and jmho

I love craps but confess that I don't know all the rules. We had a blast during a slow night at a casino when the pit boss took pity on us and shared his best practices. Super fun!

I love roulette as well. IMHO it is the easiest table game for a newbie!

Many years back a friend who really like to play casino games had a casino night with a craps table, roulette & BJ tables. I knew how to play BJ but he when he showed us craps I decided it had way too many rules to remember especially since when I play I like to have a few drinks. I agree roulette was soo much easier. The only real thing you have to worry about is trying to take your winnings away before the marker is lifted... I have seen a few been slapped on the hand when they did this!:D

As an AC dealer we say 7 and I rarely see people get upset also!

Be careful when the stick person stands on 1 foot and sends the dice with the stick in there right hand :p

I've been playing craps for 20 years. I like boisterous tables. What if someone whispered "7" to the person next to them? What if someone was just thinking "7"? What if someone at the table had a sports jersey on with "7" on it?

See how ridiculous this is?

I have never heard of anyone not being able to say anything (cursing excepted) at a craps table.

Someone would "SHHHHH" me at the table? Trying to think what I might do, but I'd certainly consider it an insult and would hurl one right back.

I've been dealing table games since 1985 and have seen a lot. This, as you call it " Craps Table No No" is an everyday occurance. People are intimidated by the Craps layout, even after taking a gaming lesson - they still don't realize that craps is an extremely easy game to play.

Maybe you should have offered these two women a spot next to you at the table, never know - they could have brought you a roll lasting an hour!

I'm sure the dealers, boxperson, floorperson and pit boss were all looking at you - saying what is this guy's deal!!!!!

I've played a lot of craps in vegas over the years. Great game!

Here's my two cents on this subject. Crap players seem to be a more superstitius group of gamblers than most. In addition to the no-no listed above. Don't throw cash (buy-in, change) on the table when the shooter is getting ready to shoot. Key is don't do anything to slow the game down when the shooter is on a hot streak.

Try doing the no-no's on a table in vegas and you'll quickly learn from the other players you're no wanted at the table.

That being said...Cruise ship craps gambling is a little different. First, most of the players I've seen on ships don't have a lot of experience at craps, and are just trying the game with friends or family members for the first time.

Most serious craps players know this. Table limits are lower and the majority of the player don't know what they're doing. Many are just throwing a few bucks on the table and having some fun..

I view craps on a cruise ship as a whole different ball game. I've even had pit bosses scold me for dice setting, and tossing the dice to high on the table.

So, to you players thinking of giving craps a try on a cruise ship. Go ahead and give it a try. Have fun and don't worry about us superstitius gamblers. You may find its a new game you'll enjoy. BTW, pick up a book on the craps do's and don't. It will help you understand the game, and how to make the right bets.

Thanks for the many replies.

To the dealers, thanks for your input, but I have a few questions. Do you say “7” while the shooters is working on a point, I can’t recalls hearing it? If you are moving the dice with the stick back to the shooter working on a point, do you give them to the shooter showing a “7”.

Cruise ship gambling is different, there are many new gamblers. I was on 3rd base at a Blackjack table and left after the 3 gentlemen next to me split 10’s/face cards several times when the dealer was showing a 4, 5, 6.

As I noted to Capt. Jack, I did clear my mind before shooting again. I took the dice dropped them a few times, a 7 was rolled and them I shot.

Janine, I don’t gamble but 6 time a year. OK so,,,,,,,I was on a roll,,, I am sorry. I had been making points for about 20-25 minutes; the hard ways and was ahead of the game on C/E’s with a number of “Yo’s”. I may have been looked upon as a “NUT”, but I got over it, the winning for the week paid the tab for the bar, gifts & tips.. Also,,, I always gave $5-10 each time I left the table.

If someone throws in an any 7 I will. If I'm trying to teach someone the game I will say it or "the number you don't see anywhere".

We try not to send dice out on a 7, but if they tumble due to a busy or crappy layout you just apologize.

It's more of a courtesy then anything. Crap players are superstitious. It's easy to get in there head. Keep in mind this is all relevant to if we like the table and people are tipping =) If they're not and we don't like them, we will do just about anything to throw them off there game =) It's the easiest game to mess with people

Toke rates are down everywhere and glad to hear you do toss the dealers something each time.

At one point in every gambler's life they were newbies to each game, and the only way they ever learn is by asking questions and have other people help them understand the game. I've seen many relationships form from the simple act of helping out a novice gambler.

As for the people who were splitting their 10's - that happens and it sucks. A dealer can not tell a player how to bet or what to do (they can only instruct on the rules of the game). Many players do what you did and just leave. But how many times can you up and leave a table? When I personally gamble and encounter people who haven't a clue what basic strategy is, so I try to educate - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
